Without dance? – dance knowledge in an expanded perspective   The vocational dancer education in classical ballet's subject-specific intended learning outcomes means many years of dance training that requires sacrifices in other school subjects and other hobbies, without work guarantee. There are more dancers than there are jobs, which is why many people stop dancing after graduation. The survey’s purpose is to investigate what happens over time with the dance knowledge that is generated during the vocational dancer education. Is it still relevant to the person's sphere of life even outside a dance context? Five people, who completed the vocational dancer education in classical ballet in 2011 and 2012 and stopped dancing after graduation, are interviewed. The results are analyzed with a phenomenographic approach, the description categories or result are analyzed to a final outcome space, which indicates, through the ballet´s genre-determined structure and a cognitive thought pattern that is characterized by a given construction to understand the meaning of structure, a unique and profound body knowledge and social adaptability as a consequence of the education. Dance practice enables social adaptability, a visualization of people's complex reality, the understanding of the value of taking varying perspectives to manage and adapt to different people and social contexts

Kontakt i Folkdans : -en studie om hur vi skapar förutsättningar för att kunna läsa av varandras kroppar och intentioner

    No full text
This study aims to examine how the phenomenon of connection in Swedish folkdance is experienced and formulated by dancers. Connection is a big part of all couple dances, yet not many have concrete descriptions of it. The empirical data comes from two practical workshops with a focus group in which the participants got to dance and then directly discuss or write down their thoughts. The analysis of the material, which consists of notes and recordings, results in five themes: physical touch and its role in connection, metaphors and inner pictures of connection, technical aspects to create connection, a biomechanical approach and dancing in relation to one’s dance partner. In addition to those themes, the study generates perspectives with which the topic can be studied further. The biomechanical perspective can help understand the logics and functions of a couple dance and the metaphorical perspective appeals to the intuitive part of learning. This study is performed in a Swedish folk dance context but might be relevant to other couple dances as well, both to see similarities and differences in how the topic of connection is taught and discussed in the respective contexts

After Work : A book about the meaning of Work

Economic stress under wage-earning has been abolished. Machines and AI have taken over dirty, heavy and tedious work. Money and social injustice are banned. All the technological resources of humanity can be used to reset the global economy to harmonize with ecology. Free citizens can spend their time in leisure practicing music, art, and poetry. Visions of the future are already here. But is it a utopia that we are seeing materializing around us or a dystopia? What will happen to people when nobody wants their labor? Does there already exist a firm border between those who have a job, with all that it entails in social and economic benefits, and the people that are on the other side of the fence- the people that have to sell their work by the hour, and who in practice are modern slaves under apps and SMS? A division between people who can safely work from home during a pandemic and those who cannot. Is everything for sale? Can you sell voluntary labour? These are some of the questions discussed in the art projects documented in this book

International Committee to Save the Earth through Speculative Fabulation : How to become a posthuman

    No full text
The collective artistic research project Fabulation for Future reflects on the change of perspectives and new ways of perceiving a world shaken by multiple crises in the context of the Anthropocene. In particular, climate change in conjunction with the novel coronavirus has led to controversial debates about the future and exposed the vulnerability of the human-Earth relationship. Considering this background, the project’s artistic research process designs a collective, critical rethinking of the human condition with the goal of finding artistic ways to create post-anthropocentric worldviews for a sustainable future in which human and non-human species can coexist in sympoiesis. The goal is to build a worldwide network of thinkers, artists and filmmakers who likewise affect and involve other actors. The envisioned network is to operate in the form of a fictive International Committee to Save the Earth through Speculative Fabulation, preparing discourses, artistic actions, fabulative concepts, speculative narratives, and videos that are presented in the digital online exhibition How to Become a Posthuman. The project emphasizes the new significance of digital proximity for our increasingly posthuman way of life. Christine Reeh-Peters and Fee Altmann started Fabulation for Future in September 2021 with an international online summer school Masterclass Artistic Research in Film and Philosophy hosted by the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF. Conceived as a combination of a five-day symposium Intra-Activity: the Posthuman, Fabulation and Matter and a five-day workshop, this summer school was the creative basis for the development of artitstic projects that will soon be presented in form of a joint online exhibition

Angularity och att ”vara angulär” : Perspektiv på undervisning i jazzdans

    No full text
In this qualitative practice-based research meanings of angularity in Africanist aesthetics and ”angular music” are studied. The insights of the studies are processed in several bodily practices and ”being angular” develops into a dance didactic tool for jazz dance. The bodily practices through which being angular is shaped are the following: creative writing, dance improvisations, and the development of a dance art pedagogy practice for jazz dance.  The aim of the study is to understand the meaning of being angular in a jazz dance context, to give a perspective on jazz dance teaching and contribute to the deepening of dance skills in jazz dance. In the study, I collaborate with co-researchers who were students from the Norwegian culture school. The research questions are: With what approaches can ”being angular” be achieved to be meaningful in jazz dance teaching? How can "being angular" as a dance didactic tool contribute to deepen dance skills and artistic development in jazz dance?  The knowledge generation takes place through the practical exploration and the methodological process is derived from Tone Pernille Østern's theoretical understanding of researching with art. ”Å forske med kunsten” (To research with art) is an umbrella term forpractice-led and artistic research.  Being angular develops into a tool that connects dance didactic methods with dance artistic methods in jazz dance teaching. Being angular contributes to the act of collective learning and gives a broadened perspective on jazz dance teaching.I denna kvalitativa praktikbaserade forskning studeras betydelser av angularity i afrikanistisk estetik och ”angular music”.

The aim of this study was to investigate secondary education students’ experiences of inhabiting and expanding in dance education. The method used was semi-structured interviews and queer phenomenology was the theoretical approach. The results showed that students experience many expectations in dance lessons. The expectations are mainly about being seen (and judged) and about what one's body can do. The results also showed that the dance studio as an arena enables students to physically inhabit and expand in dance education through stable social relationships and a focused and permissive work climate.

    PRAHO! project

Can an interaction between the inhabitants of a city in a public space lead to a dialogue causing an artistic expression? And is there really a need to define certain places for the arts when we have common spaces and online platform that can fulfill the same function? The goal of this thesis is to give an insight into an artistic project I have been implementing into public space of Prague since Autumn 2021 which is based on the concept of present miscommunication of the arts and digs deep into the possibilities of starting a dialogue through the streets of the city. By using the city as a certain intermediator, the project aims to outline the potential of the place, to display the city as a kind of mosaic of intersecting lives taking place so close together, and to show different perspectives on the very same city. The aim of the project is to point out a kind of anonymous intimacy, which we all experience in the hustle and bustle of the metropolis on a daily basis and to investigate the potential of arts in public space leading to dialog
