Registered Nurses' Experience of Person‐Centred Care Through Digital Aids in Primary Care Setting During the COVID‐19 Pandemic
Aim The aim of this study was to describe registered nurses' experience of person-centred care through digital media during the COVID-19 pandemic. The first wave of COVID-19 took healthcare services worldwide by surprise and affected all levels of care. Registered nurses within primary care settings had to adjust to new meeting forums with patients and in collaborations with other organisations to transfer patients from hospital to home care in a safe and secure manner using digital aids. Design Interviews with 17 registered nurses within primary care settings were conducted. Interviews were transcribed verbatim and analysed using qualitative content analysis. Methods Qualitative using semi-structured interviews. Results Digitalisation requires organisational changes, with four subcategories. The second category, digitalisation, facilitates person-centred care, with two subcategories. Main findings showed digitalisation as a possibility to enhance person-centred care to benefit the individual. The patients would have the possibility of obtaining professional care in their own home, enhancing the continuation of care. Digitalisation of primary care tasks demanded organisational changes of different kinds. This meant implementing innovative digital tools or artificial intelligence and developing a mental frame of mind that embraces new ways and activities to perform primary care through technology. Public Contribution Registered nurses saw enhancement of person-centred care through digital media as something positive. However, they also voiced concerns that some patients, such as self-damaging teenagers, new patients and multi-sick patients, would be unsuitable for digital meetings. They also emphasised that the digitalisation of person-centred care requires organisational changes. The study addressed the problems faced by the rapid conversion from traditional face-to-face care to digital care in the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic within a primary care setting. There is a need for continued education on best communication practices with a primary focus on person-centred care. Since communication is key in the continuation of care, this needs to be addressed by both health centre management and educators
Boys and Girls in the Classroom—About Didactical Perspectives in Similarities and Differences
The lower academic performance of boys in compulsory school has long been a well-known fact, but only in the last decade has it been shown in the public debate. Various explanations for boys’ underperformance mainly include background, expectations, norms, and hierarchical gender order. Few studies have focused on what can be affected, namely the teaching in the classroom. In addition, studies have not, to any significant extent, focused on the students’ perceptions. This study was conducted through eight group interviews with 2nd and 5th-grade students and explored how boys and girls perceive learning in a classroom context. Similarities and differences in perceptions emerged through a reflexive thematic analysis from a didactic theoretical perspective—the similarities in perception concerned the teacher’s leadership, interactions, learning strategies, and learning environment. The differences were about reprimands, different developed learning strategies, confidence in the teacher, and the social atmosphere. The result indicates a need for the teacher to be more aware of the processes going on in the classroom and to build both social and learning support structures with a focus on learning strategies
Prosody! When intonation helps and there is an effect… on listening comprehension in children
We report four experiments investigating the effect of prosody on listening comprehension in 11-13-year-old children. Across all experiments, participants listened to short object descriptions and answered content-based questions about said objects. In Experiments 1-3, the descriptions were read in an emotionally positive or neutral tone of voice. In Experiment 4, the descriptions were read by a neutral human voice or by text-to-speech software. The results from Experiments 1-3 consistently showed higher accuracy (i.e. more correct answers to the questions) when the descriptions were read using positive prosody. Experiment 4 found higher accuracy for the human voice compared to the text-to-speech recordings. The human voice was also rated as more pleasant and easier to understand than the text-to-speech voice. In sum, this study found that positive, compared to neutral, prosody, and a human voice, compared to artificial speech synthesis, can improve listening comprehension, showcasing the role of prosody in listening comprehension

This thesis is an analysis of the use of early-modern history in two popular history magazines in Sweden. The aims of the study is to examine the representation of early-modern history and to see what type of ‘history use’ (Swedish: historiebruk) said period is characterized by. ‘History use’ is a concept utilized to highlight in what ways history is used and to what effect, while being part of a broader theoretical framework of history-didactics. The magazines in question are Populär Historia (popular history) and Världens Historia (the history of the world). The implemented methods used is firstly a quantitative analysis followed by a qualitative textual ‘history use’ analysis tied to the theoretical framework, which is based on a typology of different forms of ‘history uses’. The goal of the quantitative analysis is to see the share of articles containing early-modern content, to see geographical locations, type of article (events, societal phenomena, historical figures etc) and type of content, as well as to see the most typical form of article based on these mentioned parameters. These articles then become the subject of the qualitative analysis in which ‘history use’ is examined. The result of the study is that Populär Historia is the magazine that focuses more on the period, with about 25 percent of the magazines content, compared to around 10 percent in Världens Historia. Regarding content, the result is quite similar where both magazines focus mostly on European history. Sweden is the most popular country in Populär Historia, while ‘unspecified’ followed by England and Great Britain are the most popular in Världens Historia. Both magazines write mostly character-portraits and the most popular category of subject is war and conflict. Five articles from each magazine align with these parameters and are subject to the qualitative analysis which shows that both magazines are characterized by several ‘history uses’. Populär Historia primarily feature scientific and commercial ‘history uses’, while Världens Historia mainly has commercial ‘history uses’. This result is mainly in line with and supports previous research, despite there seeming to be minor research in the field in the past 8 years.
This thesis presents a study of how the physical learning environment in Swedish School-age Educare Centers (SAECs) shapes students' and staff's opportunities for participation, influence and autonomy, and highlights its pedagogical implications. Through a metasynthesis of three studies, based on interviews and observations in four SAECs, the thesis explores the interplay between individual, spatial, material and organizational factors in pedagogical practice. The study integrates three theoretical models: structuration theory (Giddens, 1984), psychological ownership theory (Pierce et al., 2001) and sociology of childhood (James et al., 1998). The results emphasize the importance of the physical learning environment as a tool for strengthening students' safety, independence, participation and influence, as well as staff flexibility and professional autonomy. A central insight is that stable conditions regarding staff and premises, including adaptable and flexible spaces, give students gives opportunity to be participate in the creation of the learning environment. which promotes ownership and strengthens commitment. The thesis problematizes the balance between security and autonomy and argues that stability should be the basis of physical and organizational structures, to provide conditions for agency through relational dynamics in everyday practice. The thesis contributes with knowledge and guidance for educators, school leaders and policy makers and strengthens the academic discussion through an integrated theoretical model and an effort to combine empirical insights with theoretical analysis and practical application. At the time of the PhD defence the following papers were unpublished: paper 3 and 4. </p
Young radicals, moderates and aligned : Ideological congruence and incongruence in party youth wings
The ideological fit between party grassroots and leaderships has long been a concern for political science, with members in general, and young members in particular, thought to be more radical. However, we do not know, first, whether this is still the case and, if it is, what drives members in different ideological directions. To investigate,we propose a new typology of members as radicals, moderates and aligned, and develop a theoretical frameworkthat accounts for how political socialization and party contexts drive congruence and incongruence. We test thisusing YOUMEM survey data from over 4,000 members of 12 youth wings in six countries. Our results show thatwhile radicals are the largest group in most youth wings, they are more common on the centre-left than the centre-right. They tend to have been in the youth wing for longer than aligned members, but are under-represented amongpolitically ambitious members. Our findings thus shed light on opinion structures within political parties and providea typology for future research on intra-party cohesion
