”Om inte jag får vara med och leka får inte du komma på mitt kalas” : En kvalitativ studie om pedagogers erfarenheter av barns maktuttryck i leken

No full text
Betyg i Ladok 2025-01-15</p

How does pole length affect lower back muscle activity at different inclines and skiing intensities during double poling?

No full text
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate how pole length, incline, and skiing intensity affect lower back muscle activation in elite cross-country skiers. This addressing a critical gap in understanding the biomechanical demands and risk of low back pain of double poling (DP). Method: Eleven elite cross-country skiers performed skiing trials on a treadmill, varying in incline (flat vs. 6 degrees), intensity (two self-selected speeds, training speed and racing speed), and pole lengths. Muscle activity was measured by surface electromyography on the erector spinae thoracic and lumbar muscles, on the left and right side. A motion capture system was used for kinematic analysis of the lower back-pole moment arm and the hip angle during the DP cycle. Results: Compared to men, female skiers had a significantly higher (p < 0.001), overall muscle activation for the m. erector spinae lumbar on both the left and right side (26% of MVC vs. 15% of MVC, and 28% of MVC vs. 22% of MVC, for the left and right side, respectively). No correlations were found, neither between muscle activation to the lower back-pole moment arm, or to the hip angle. Conclusion: The findings suggest that female skiers experience significantly higher lumbar erector spinae activation during DP, potentially indicating greater susceptibility to back-related issues. The results also highlight the need to tailor training and right adapted equipment to mitigate lower back stress, especially in flat terrain high-intensity conditions. The asymmetrical muscle activity and gender differences underscores the need for further investigation into biomechanical factors influencing back muscle engagement in cross-country skiing

Addressing work-from-home challenges through rural coworking

No full text
Public employees request a hybrid workplace solution. However, to someemployees, working from home poses challenges such as a lack of an oceinfrastructure and feelings of loneliness. To overcome these challenges andsecure decent work conditions during remote work, the private sector, andfreelancers have used local coworking spaces (CWSs).With the increase of hybridwork arrangements, the public sector needs to ensure that employees havedecent onsite and remote working conditions, in which CWSs could functionas an alternative to home-based work. Through a 1-year qualitative evaluationproject, 15 public employees tested hybrid work in which they combined workat the centralized oce, from home, and at a local CWS. Data were collectedthrough surveys with open-ended questions and semi-structured interviews. The results from the content analysis show a diverse picture of participants’perceptions regarding the use of CWSs. When there was a lack of users and adecent physical work environment, public employees preferred to work fromhome. On the contrary, when adequately designed, CWSs provided employeeswith social interactions and became an integral part of the local community. These findings suggest that introducing local CWSs can promote sustainablework if they align with employees’ needs

Resources and strategies young people use and need to promote mental health – a qualitative study from a salutogenic perspective

No full text
Aim: The aim of this study was to explore young people’s experiences of resources and strategies for promoting their mental health. Methods: Individual interviews with 33 people aged 16–25 years were conducted using a method inspired by cognitive interviewing, which combines think aloud techniques with probing questions. The interviews were based on the young people’s reflections of the questions in the Swedish national public health survey. Data were analysed with reflexive thematic analysis. Results: The resources and strategies that the young people in this study described as important for promoting mental well-being are related to societal prerequisites needed to navigate life; to their immediate surroundings, including social interactions; and to the young people themselves. These resources and strategies are presented under the following three themes: prerequisites for navigating life, social interactions on one’s own terms, and who I am and what I can do. Conclusions: Young people have a variety of resources and strategies of their own available for promoting mental well-being. However, they cannot promote mental health just on their own; access to social networks and the opportunity to share thoughts and feelings are central. Further, to promote mental health, young people need good social conditions, knowledge, and support from adults so that the existence they struggle to navigate feels comprehensible, manageable and meaningful.

Mid Sweden University (MIUN) recognizes its vital role in advancing sustainability through education, research, and institutional practices: ’What we do [at Mid Sweden University] has to work not only today but also in the future’, as the University’s strategy document states (MIUN 2018/1006). To assess the current sustainability perceptions, behaviours, and attitudes among staff, the MIUN Sustainability Survey was conducted in 2024. The survey had multiple aims: i) understand sustainability competencies on campus; ii) evaluate attitudes and engagement in sustainability initiatives; iii) identify barriers to sustainable behaviours; iv) identify perceived importance of different sustainability actions, and v) collect staff suggestions for future sustainability efforts. This survey serves as a baseline for future assessments and provides insights into sustainability engagement across both university campuses

Association Between Polygenic Risk Scores and Treatment Response to Antidepressants, Benzodiazepines, and Antihistamines in Anxiety and Depression

No full text
BackgroundAnxiety and depression are the most prevalent mental health disorders. The first-line treatment is antidepressants, such as serotonin reuptake inhibitors, but benzodiazepines and antihistamines are also used to treat anxiety. Only one-third of patients achieve remission with first-line treatment. Identifying responders and nonresponders to monotherapy prior to treatment could increase remission rates and reduce dropout. The aim of the current study was to predict response to antidepressants, benzodiazepines, and antihistamines from polygenic risk scores (PRSs) in individuals with anxiety and/or depression symptoms.MethodsWe identified 2515 individuals in a genotyped cohort in the Swedish Twin Registry who had been prescribed drugs for anxiety and/or depression. Of these individuals, 1037 received monotherapy (555 with antidepressants, 169 with benzodiazepines, and 313 with antihistamines). The remaining 1478 individuals switched or added more drugs during the assessment period (2005–2018). The accuracy of 42 PRSs for psychiatric diagnoses as well as for nonclinical phenotypes in predicting mono- versus multitherapy was assessed using logistic regression.ResultsMonotherapy with benzodiazepines was predicted by a PRS for depressive symptoms indexed by the Patient Health Questionnaire (odds ratio [OR] = 1.29), while monotherapy with antihistamines was predicted by a PRS for lifetime anxiety disorder (OR = 1.25) and a PRS for schizophrenia (OR = 1.24). None of the investigated PRSs significantly predicted monotherapy with antidepressants.ConclusionsReal-world data suggest that monotherapy with benzodiazepines or antihistamines can be predicted from PRSs related to anxiety, depression, and schizophrenia

Problem drinking and comorbidity with mental ill health : a cross-sectional study among healthcare workers in Sweden

No full text
Aims: Problem drinking in healthcare workers (HCWs) is highly relevant to study as it could result in personal suffering, as well as inefficiencies in health service delivery. This study aims to investigate the prevalence of nondrinking, drinking, and problem drinking and to investigate the comorbidity between drinking alcohol and mental illness (burnout and depression) among HCWs in Sweden. Methods: This cross-sectional study draws on the 2022 Longitudinal Occupational Health survey in Healthcare Sweden of physicians, nurses, and nurse assistants in Sweden (N = 5966). Measures include levels of alcohol use assessed by the Cut, Annoyed, Guilty, and Eye Opener questionnaire, the 12-item Burnout Assessment Tool, and the Symptom CheckList-Core Depression. Multinomial Logistic regressions were used to investigate the likelihood of reporting nondrinking and problem drinking compared to drinking. Results: The prevalence of problem drinking among Swedish HCWs was 3.7%. Only sex differences were observed for those with a problem drinking, with male nurses and nurse assistants being more likely to report problem drinking. Comorbidity was found between problem drinking and depression but not between problem drinking and burnout. Conclusions: This study demonstrated that similar to 3.7% of Swedish HCWs had problem drinking and that those also had a higher likelihood of reporting depression but not burnout. Results contribute to new knowledge about the use of alcohol and comorbidities with depression and burnout among HCWs in Sweden. Findings could benefit employers in implementing preventive and tailored strategies to preserve the psychosocial well-being of HCWs
