Procenjivanje simptoma poremećaja igranja kompjuterskih igara na internetu (eng. Internet Gaming Disorder) kod studenata - internacionalna validaciona studija mere samoprocene
The present study evaluated the psychometric properties of a self-report scale for assessing Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) symptoms according to the DSM-5 and ICD-11 among 3270 college/univers ity students (2095 [64.1%] females; age mean 21.6 [3.1] years) from different countries worldwide. Croatian, English, Polish, Portuguese, Serbian, Turkish, and Vietnamese versions of the scale were tested. The study showed that symptoms of IGD could be measured as a single underlying factor among college/university students. A nine itemsymptom scale following DSM-5, and a short four-item scale representing the main ICD-11 symptoms, had sound internal consistency and construct validity. Three symptom-items were found non-invariant across the language samples (i.e., preoccupation with on-line gaming, loss of interests in previous hobbies and entertainment, and the use of gaming to relieve negative moods). This study provides initial evidence for assessing IGD symptoms among college/university students and will hopefully foster further research into gaming addiction in this population worldwide especially with taking into account language/cultural differences.U ovoj studiji su procenjena psihometrijska svojstva skale samoprocene koja je namenjena proceni simptoma poremećaja igranja kompjuterskih igrara na internetu (eng.

Capacity development in food and nutrition in central and Eastern Europe: A decade of achievements
This article summarizes the activities performed by the Network for Capacity Development in Nutrition in Central and Eastern Europe and Balkan countries (NCDNCEE) in the past decade. The article gives a retrospective of the achievements and challenges in building capacity in nutrition research. Recognizing the lack of capacity and incoherent nutritional situation in CEE/BC, the United Nations University (UNU), Food & Nutrition Programme and the UN Standing Committee on Nutrition (SCN) encouraged the formation of NCDNCEE in 2005, which became CAPNUTRA in 2012. The network's aim was to initiate and support tailor-made activities for capacity development in food & nutrition in research and training in CEE/BC. To identify the challenges and needs of nutrition research in the region, the network performed inventories on existence of food composition databases, food systems elements, dietary surveys, micronutrient recommendations, application of dietary assessment methods and grey literature. Further on, the network focused on the development of food composition databases and concomitant data management software, the Diet Assess & Plan platform for food consumption collection, dietary intake assessment and nutrition planning. These and other elements form the Balkan Food Platform, which underpins harmonized nutrition research in CEE/BC. Among key actions promoted by the platform are EFSA-supported dietary surveys conducted in four Balkan countries, on children and adults, in which food consumption data are collected and analysed in a harmonized way. Cooperation with FAO and active participation in international research projects enhanced the exchange of information and knowledge and brought international recognition to the CAPNUTRA network
The influence of specific aspects of occupational stress on security guards' health and work ability: detailed extension of a previous study
In our earlier study of security guards, we showed that higher occupational stress was associated with health impairments (metabolic syndrome, diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases) and work disability. The aim of this study was to further explore the association of specific occupational stressors with health impairments and work disability parameters in 399 Serbian male security guards (aged 25-65 years). Ridge linear regression analysis revealed that, after controlling for age, body mass index, and smoking status, professional stressors including high demands, strictness, conflict/uncertainty, threat avoidance and underload were significant positive predictors of fasting glucose, triglycerides, total and LDL cholesterol, blood pressure, heart rate, Framingham cardiovascular risk score, and temporary work disability. The security profession is in expansion worldwide, and more studies are needed to establish precise health risk predictors, since such data are generally lacking
MPN patients with low mutant JAK2 allele burden show late expansion restricted to erythroid and megakaryocytic lineages
Dynamics of impulsive-compulsive behaviors in early Parkinson's disease: a prospective study
Introduction Impulsive compulsive behaviors (ICBs) in Parkinson's disease (PD) are debilitating disorders of repetitive, excessive, and compulsive nature affecting up to one third of PD patients. Objectives are to address clinical, psychiatric, and cognitive characteristics of ICBs and to define risk factors in PD patients in the initial motor stage, followed up for 5 years. Methods We analyzed 106 consecutive PD outpatients at Hoehn and Yahr disease stage 1 and 125 healthy controls. The participants were assessed for the presence of any ICB using the current clinical criteria and underwent comprehensive clinical, psychiatric, and neuropsychological evaluations. The patients completed the same protocol at Years 1, 2, 3, and 5. Results ICBs were present in 21 (19.8%) PD patients and 13 (10.4%) healthy controls at baseline. Prevalence of ICBs increased to 29.2% at Year 5, significantly after Year 2. Multiple ICBs were present in 4,7% and 61.9% of PD-ICBs at the baseline and Year 5, respectively. ICBs resolved in 30% of cases (most often compulsive eating). Dopamine agonist treatment at the baseline carried five times higher risk of having or developing ICB(s) anytime during follow-up. We identified risk factors for compulsive eating (dopamine agonist treatment at baseline), hypersexuality (males), compulsive buying (depression and younger age), and punding (younger age and higher levodopa dose at baseline). Significant interaction of rate of motor progression and ICB diagnosis was shown. Conclusions PD patients showed increasing frequency of most ICBs during the 5-year follow-up. Specific risk factors were identified for different types of ICBs
Characterization of personal solar ultraviolet radiation exposure using detrended fluctuation analysis
Studies of personal solar ultraviolet radiation (pUVR) exposure are important to identify populations at-risk of excess and insufficient exposure given the negative and positive health impacts, respectively, of time spent in the sun. Electronic UVR dosimeters measure personal solar UVR exposure at high frequency intervals generating large datasets. Sophisticated methods are needed to analyze these data. Previously, wavelet transform (WT) analysis was applied to high-frequency personal recordings collected by electronic UVR dosimeters. Those findings showed scaling behavior in the datasets that changed from uncorrelated to long-range correlated with increasing duration of time spent in the sun. We hypothesized that the WT slope would be influenced by the duration of time that a person spends in continuum outside. In this study, we address this hypothesis by using an experimental study approach. We aimed to corroborate this hypothesis and to characterize the extent and nature of influence time a person spends outside has on the shape of statistical functions that we used to analyze individual UVR exposure patterns. Detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA) was applied to personal sun exposure data. We analyzed sun exposure recordings from skiers (on snow) and hikers in Europe, golfers in New Zealand and outdoor workers in South Africa. Results confirmed validity of the DFA superposition rule for assessment of pUVR data and showed that pUVR scaling is determined by personal patterns of exposure on lower scales. We also showed that this dominance ends at the range of time scales comparable to the maximal duration of continuous exposure to solar UVR during the day; in this way the superposition rule can be used to quantify behavioral patterns, particularly accurate if it is determined on WT curves. These findings confirm a novel way in which large datasets of personal UVR data may be analyzed to inform messaging regarding safe sun exposure for human health
Efekat dugotrajnog napornog vežbanja na masnokiselinski profil fosfolipida plazme kod rukometaša
Background/Aim. Consensus on the exercise effect on the fatty acid metabolism has not been reached, and probably depends on the type of sports (aerobic, anaerobic or mixed). The aim of this study was to investigate effect of long-term handball training on the body composition, lipid profile and the plasma phospholipid fatty acid composition in female and male younger players. Methods. Seventeen female and 15 male active handball players, aged 16-20 years, who competed at the national/international level, were enrolled in the study. A control group was established from healthy, sedentary individuals (13 females and 19 males, aged 17-21 years), comparable to the athletes in terms of age, sex and body mass index. Results. In both groups of handball players a higher percentage of palmitoleic acid and alpha linolenic acid (18:3, n-3), were found and lower percentage of oleic acid and docosahexaenoic acid (22:6, n-3), when compared with corresponding control group. On the other hand, the lower level of stearic acid and estimated activity of plasma elongase was detected in female players than in sedentary women. Furthermore, higher proportion of linoleic acid (18:2, n-6), n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) and total PUFA was found only in female players in comparison to the control group. Conclusion. The observed differences between handball players and sedentary individuals showed that handball training influenced lipid and fatty acid metabolism. Follow-up of these changes could indicate potential need for supplementation or nutritional intervention in young handball players.Uvod/Cilj.

Gender-Related Differences in Mechanics of the Sprint Start and Sprint Acceleration of Top National-Level Sprinters
(1) Background: Within the current study we aimed at exploring gender-related differences and the relationship between sprint start block kinematics and kinetics and sprint acceleration force-velocity (F-v) relationship parameters (maximal force [F0], maximal velocity [v0], maximal power [Pmax] and slope) in top national-level sprinters. (2) Methods: Twenty-eight sprinters (6 females) performed 10 maximal 30-m sprints. Start block and acceleration kinematics and kinetics were collected with an instrumented sprint start block and a laser distance sensor (KiSprint system). Displacement-time data were used to determine the F-v relationship through Samozino's method. (3) Results: Start block rear foot maximal force (effect size [ES] = 1.08), rate of force development (ES = 0.90-1.33), F-0(ES = 1.38), v(0)(ES = 1.83) and P-max(ES = 1.95) were higher in males than in females (p lt = 0.05). There were no differences in the slope, and ratio of horizontal-to-resultant force. F-0, v(0), and P(max)generally presented higher correlations with the start block kinetics (median r [range] = 0.49 [0.28, 0.78]) than with the kinematics (median r [range] = -0.27 [-0.52, 0.28]). (4) Conclusions: We confirmed that sprint block phase and sprint acceleration mechanics should be mutually assessed when analyzing sprinting performance. KiSprint system could provide more accurate information regarding mechanical pattern and technique during sprint initiation and acceleration, and potentially help create a more personalized and effective training program
