Students’ Ability in Reading Comprehension of Da’wah and Islamic Communication Department at STAIN Bengkalis
Get PDFReading as an important skill for students, especially in reading English texts that require more understanding than Indonesian texts. The function and importance of reading has changed both in society and in the world of education. This research was descriptive quantitative. The purpose of this research was to determine students’ ability in reading comprehension of the da'wah and Islamic communication department. The population in this research was all students who took study english text course in the second semester of the 2019/2020 school year with sample of 40 students. The data collection technique used reading comprehension test. The results of this research indicate that the students’ ability in reading comprehension in the da'wah and Islamic communication department is 48,875 which into avarage category. The difficult part of reading comprehension in this research was vocabulary. Students are expected to master and have a lot of vocabulary in English, it will be clearer in understanding the text in English. Not only vocabulary that must be mastered by students but there are several other factors that affect students' ability to understand reading.Membaca sebagai keterampilan penting bagi mahasiswa, terutama dalam membaca teks bahasa Inggris yang membutuhkan pemahaman lebih dari teks bahasa Indonesia. Fungsi dan pentingnya membaca telah berubah baik dalam masyarakat maupun dalam dunia pendidikan. Penelitian ini bersifat deskriptif kuantitatif. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kemampuan pemahaman bacaan mahasiswa jurusan dakwah dan komunikasi Islam. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh mahasiswa yang mengambil mata kuliah Bahasa Inggris pada semester dua tahun ajaran 2019/2020 dengan sampel sebanyak 40 mahasiswa. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan tes pemahaman bacaan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan pemahaman bacaan mahasiswa jurusan dakwah dan komunikasi Islam adalah 48.875 yang berada pada kategori sedang. Bagian yang sulit dari pemahaman bacaan dalam penelitian ini adalah kosa kata. Jika siswa menguasai dan memiliki banyak kosakata dalam bahasa Inggris, maka akan lebih mudah untuk memahami teks dalam bahasa Inggris. Tidak hanya kosakata yang harus dikuasai siswa tetapi ada beberapa faktor lain yang mempengaruhi kemampuan siswa dalam memahami bacaan
An Analysis of Students’ Mastery on Constructing Simple Present Tense of English Education Department at STAIN Bengkalis
Get PDFThis research aimed to determine the students’ mastery on constructing simple present tense of the English Education Department at STAIN Bengkalis and which part would be the easiest and the most difficult to master. The subjects of this study were 19 first-semester students who were given a multiple-choice test. This research was descriptive quantitative and the data were analyzed using SPSS Statistics 20. The findings showed that the student's mastery of constructing simple present tense was at an average level with a mean of 64.08. The easiest part for them to master is affirmative sentences with subjects I, You, We, and They with a mean of 66.32. Meanwhile, the most difficult part was in a negative sentence with a mean of 63.16. The analyses explained that the majority of the students made mistakes in putting ending –s/-es for the verbs with subjects She, He, and It, and also still had problems in forming negative sentences in using auxiliaries do/does. It is recommended to English lecturers have more focuses on giving information in forming a Simple Present Tense
Strategi Discovery Learning dalam Pembelajaran Anak Usia Dini
Get PDFThe current learning paradigm has changed from being teacher-oriented to student-oriented. One of the student-oriented learning strategies is discovery learning. However, there are still many teachers who do not understand the meaning of student-oriented in practice, then the teacher dominates learning in the classroom learning and eliminating the participation of children to be active. This study uses a qualitative approach and the data were collected using the library research technique. In the discovery learning, the teacher designs some problems about learning themes and the students are given the freedom to find their own concepts that will be learned through critical thinking so that become life skills for them. Discovery learning changes the conditions of passive learning into active and creative, the students are given the freedom to explore, actively create, and generalize their knowledge. Through discovery learning strategies, the students are expected to become problem solvers to solve some problems and make decisions.Paradigma pembelajaran saat ini sudah berubah dari yang bersifat teacher oriented menjadi student oriented. Salah satu strategi pembelajaran yang berbasis student oriented adalah discovery learning. Namun, masih banyak pendidik yang belum memahami makna student oriented pada pelaksanaannya, kemudian lebih mendominasi pembelajaran di kelas, sehingga menghilangkan partisipasi anak untuk aktif. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif, teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah studi kepustakaan. Pada strategi discovey learning, guru merancang beberapa masalah tentang tema pembelajaran dan siswa diberikan kebebasan untuk menemukan sendiri konsep-konsep yang akan dipelajari melalui berpikir kritis yang nantinya akan menjadi life skill bagi mereka. Discovery learning merubah kondisi belajar pasif menjadi aktif kreatif, Anak diberi kebebasan untuk mengeksplorasi, aktif menciptakan, dan menggeneralisasi pengetahuannya. Melalui strategi ini anak diharapkan dapat menjadi problem solver, sehingga mampu menyelesaikan masalah dan mengambil keputusan
