The therapeutic properties of salt in the prevention and treatment of respiratory diseases
Skuteczność haloterapii w leczeniu chorób układu oddechowego została potwierdzona licznymi badaniami przeprowadzonymi zarówno w naturalnych komorach solnych, jak i w grotach naziemnych. Dzięki haloterapii możliwe jest zminimalizowanie dawki i częstotliwości stosowania standardowej farmakoterapii w chorobach układu oddechowego.Natural methods of therapy are now used as a supplement to conventional medicine. Halotherapy is a variety of balneotherapy in which salt is treated as a natural medicinal raw material. As sodium chloride, salt occurs in nature mainly as rock salt and brine. Dry salt aerosol is the third medicinal material that occurs naturally in mine workings transformed into sanatorium centers, and, thanks to technological progress, it is possible to use it in underground conditions. The inhalation route enables the introduction of the therapeutic salt spray directly into the target organ, which reduces the risk of the side effects of the therapy. The effectiveness of halotherapy in the treatment of respiratory diseases has been confirmed by numerous studies conducted both in natural salt chambers and in ground caves. Thanks to halotherapy, it is possible to minimize the dose and frequency of standard pharmacotherapy in respiratory diseases
The foreign policy of Jordan and the Russia-Ukraine conflict
On 24 February 2022 Russian forces attacked Ukraine. This attack started a war that had been going on for a year. However, before the attack the authorities in Moscow had for many years been pursuing the policy of weakening American influences. It turned out to be effective in the Middle East; Russia consolidated its alliance with Iran and supported Syrian authorities. Simultaneously, unsuccessful policy of the USA lead to weakening Washington alliances, even with such pro-American countries as Jordan. The article presents the relationship of the Hashemite monarchy with the USA and the relationship crisis. The attack of Russia on Ukraine spoiled the so far effective policy of Russia, made it weaker on the international stage, and enabled the USA to revive former alliances
Krakow International Studies A privileged partnership? The convergence of Franco-Polish interests since the time of the French Military Mission in Poland until the visit of Charles de Gaulle in 1967
łamać prawo międzynarodowe i humanitarne, niszczyć porządek europejski,
Democracy, rights and exclusion in information Society: the power of (mis)information in contemporary democracies
Competences and communicative potentials emerge as indispensable elements for the
study of contemporary democracies. Defending democracy, human rights, fundamental
rights, and seeking to combat social inequality, implies recognizing the influence of
information and communication technologies in these scenarios. Information becomes
an element of power that is not only communicative, but political, economic and social. Therefore, what are the threats and means for containment and adaptation to democratic
realities? What should be considered when analyzing the function of information in the
context of a democracy that intends to be deliberative? Investigating the power of disinformation
is a central point of discussion, especially with regard to the protection of democracy,
the fight against social inequalities and the enhancement of education. Through
the analytical method of bibliographic review, the necessary interdisciplinarity between
legal, philosophical and sociological writings is used, with some observations on the global
and Brazilian scenario. Moreover, starting from the analysis of the relationship between
information, ignorance and truth, arises at the problem of the two highlighted phenomena:
infoexclusion and informational silencing. Finally, the consequences of this context
on the protection of human rights and democracy are analyzed, signaling education as the
main instrument for combating disinformation
Wierszyki i wiersze opowiadane przez świerszcze
Rajmund Mydel prof. zw. dr hab., absolwent i pracownik naukowy w latach 1969-2004 Instytutu Geografii Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego; od roku 2004 zatrudniony w Krakowskiej Akademii im. Andrzeja Frycza Modrzewskiego.
Badacz i znawca Japonii, w którym to kraju realizował liczne projekty badawcze.
Building civil society in post-1989 Poland by implementing the principle of openness of public life in non-governmental organisations in the Mazowieckie Voivodeship
Nowadays, civil society is often regarded as tantamount to participatory democracy,
which rests on the idea of voluntary participation in public life. The political transformation
of the early 1990s was a watershed time that gave Poles the opportunity to participate
fully in building a democratic state. The starting point for the thoughts and findings
shared in this text are the results of a survey conducted among non-governmental
organisations that operate in the Mazowieckie Voivodeship in Poland. The authors have
conducted quantitative research on the functioning of the right of access to public information
in NGOs. The first part of the study presents the origins of modern civil society, followed
by an analysis of the extent to which public participation and openness of social
life were an important element of the Round Table Talks held in 1989. The second part of
the text is devoted to the description of the research methodology applied. The third part
outlines the results of the research carried out so far, pointing to the major areas of NGO
activity, as well as to the way in which access to information functions in these organisations.
The text highlights the impact of the political changes of 1989 in Poland on the contemporary
possibilities of citizens in participation in public life, and the extent to which
society is active and willing to exercise its rights. Emphasis has also been placed on the interrelationship
between the two core elements of civil society: openness of public life, i.e.
access to information, and the activities of NGOs
Joint design workshops of the Faculty of Architecture and Fine Arts of the Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski Krakow University and the Department of Architecture at the Faculty of Engineering and Design of the Hosei University in Tokyo. Didactic experiences and scientific and research reflections
Celem artykułu jest analiza przebiegu i ocena rezultatów działań w ramach warsztatów projektowych
przeprowadzonych wiosną 2020 r., w czasie pandemii Covid-19, ze studentami Wydziału Architektury
Krakowskiej Akademii im. Andrzeja Frycza Modrzewskiego oraz Katedry Architektury na Wydziale Inżynierii
i Projektowania Uniwersytetu Hosei w Tokio. Tematem warsztatów było badanie pojęcia mieszkalnictwa
publicznego w XXI w. na przykładzie osiedla Nishi-Yamato Danchi zbudowanego w Tokio w latach
1960–1970.
The aim of the article is to analyze the course and evaluate the results of activities as part of the design
workshops of the design studio conducted in spring 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic, with students
of the Faculty of Architecture at the Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski Krakow University and the Department
of Architecture at the Faculty of Engineering and Design of the Hosei University in Tokyo. The topic
of the workshop was to study the concept of public housing in the 21st century using the example of the
Nishi-Yamato Danchi housing estate built in Tokyo in 1960–1970.
The study used materials collected by the author – participant and observer of the workshops. The results
of the research confirm the possibility of practical use of generally available resources of visualization
of the earth’s surface obtained thanks to aerial and satellite remote sensing, as well as effective
communication via the Internet during teaching activities.
International design workshops broaden the participants’ knowledge of residential architecture, encourage
the improvement of the quality of student education, and are also a source of research topics,
for example on transcultural architecture
Access to information for a transparent ombudsman’s office as a form of human right to fight corruption
The Ombudsman’s Office of public bodies constitutes a strategic and democratic space for
communication between the citizen and this Government Institution, aiming at strengthening
the mechanisms of social participation. It is essential for its consolidation that the
citizen has a space to request information, register suggestions, praise, complaints and
denunciations, obtaining an agile and resolute response to his manifestation. For that, it
is necessary to improve an Ombudsman with the concept of participative management
and democratization of information, which provides an effective service, capable of seeking
the solution of the manifestations. In addition, these manifestations must be organized
in management reports aimed at informing and subsidizing the managers of public
agencies, serving as an instrument for positive changes in the course of the Audits. This
article aims to implement proactive actions in order to foster Social Control, through
the participation of society and encouraging the exercise of citizenship. In order to carry
out this investigation, it was necessary to apply the dogmatic method, as the hermeneutics
of the normative texts recommends, but also the need for doctrine and transversality
was necessary, since it is an interdisciplinary theme with a high political and sociological
content, everything basked by a tradition of egalitarian rationalist thinking and based on
international human rights hermeneutics. In conclusion, we identified that the Ombudsman’s
Office aims to improve the exercise of Social Control and be another effective tool
for institutional management and transformation. Its main task is to promote a dialogue
between the public institution and society. For this to happen, citizen participation is
essential, representing a strong allied body for the realization of significant changes in
Public Administration, which fundamentally cares for the public interest
The Effect of Training on the Effectiveness of Deception Detection
The research conducted aims at determining the impact of short training on the trainee’s
ability to detect deception with the use of non-instrumental methods of detection of deception.
As the criminal procedure permits such methods of detection of deception, the results
of the research are practical. The research was carried out on a group of participants given the
task to watch a video recording and conclude whether the person presented told the truth or
lied. Subsequently, the participants were given a short training on both verbal and non-verbal
deception cues, illustrated with examples taken from the video they had watched. In the second
leg of the test, the participants watched another video and decided whether the person
presented was truthful or deceptive (on the grounds of deception cues they spotted). The
results showed that the training improved participants’ ability to detect deception by c. 22%
