Depression and burnout among teachers in mainstream and special schools – a comparative analysis
No full textWypalenie zawodowe staje się coraz bardziej powszechnym zjawiskiem,
również wśród nauczycieli, które ma wpływ na ich funkcjonowanie zarówno
w miejscu pracy, jak i poza nią. W ciągu ostatnich lat nauczyciele stanęli
przed wieloma wyzwaniami i wymaganiami, jednocześnie doświadczając wysokiego
poziomu presji ze strony społeczeństwa, obniżenia prestiżu zawodu
nauczyciela oraz stosunkowo niskiego wynagrodzenia. Zjawisko wypalenia
zawodowego charakteryzuje się uczuciem wyczerpania, depersonalizacji
i obniżeniem samooceny, a to wiąże się z różnymi negatywnymi skutkami
zdrowotnymi. Ponadto może wpływać na występowanie zaburzenia depresji.
Celem pracy jest zbadanie korelacji między wypaleniem zawodowym a depresją
oraz analiza czynników wpływających na to zjawisko wśród nauczycieli
szkół masowych oraz specjalnych.Burnout is becoming an increasingly common phenomenon, even among
teachers, which affects their functioning both at work and outside of it. Over
the past years, teachers have faced numerous challenges and requirements,
while also experiencing high levels of societal pressure, a decline in the prestige
of the teaching profession, and relatively low salaries. The phenomenon of
burnout is characterized by feelings of exhaustion, depersonalization, and lowered
self-esteem, and it is associated with various negative health consequences.
Additionally, it can contribute to the occurrence of depression. The aim of
this study is to examine the correlation between burnout and depression, as
well as analyze the factors influencing this phenomenon among teachers in
mainstream and special schools
“This used to be your favourite show”. Involvement of the media in the protest “Media without choice” and its public perception on the basis of selected examples
No full textIn a democratic system we are used to the media reporting on various demonstrations and social protests.
Thanks to the media’s interest protesters have the opportunity to express their position regarding
actions that they consider to be unjust. On one occasion, Polish media took advantage of this situation
when they expressed their own opposition to a state of affairs by ceasing to publish media content.
Instead of the scheduled programmes there appeared the messages: “This used to be your favourite
show” and “Media without choice”. In view of this, the aim of this article is to describe this one-day
protest by part of the media on 10th February 2021, which was motivated by a proposed bill that would
introduce a tax on advertisements. The reactions of the political sphere, the media and society, which
constitute how the protest was perceived, are analysed with reference to how the reception of the media
protest was portrayed. Use is made of an analysis of the content of selected media in relation to
these analytical categories, a comparative method and a case study

Wszystkie te czynniki sprawiają, że człowiek coraz częściej czuje się zagubiony i przytłoczony życiem w miejskiej dżungli, która niewiele ma wspólnego z naturą. Niestety, w naszym krajobrazie często króluje zjawisko betonozy – „procesu, w którym przestrzenie miejskie są bezrefleksyjnie pokrywane betonem i innymi twardymi nawierzchniami. Prowadzi to do utraty zieleni i zwiększenia problemów środowiskowych, takich jak zjawisko miejskiej wyspy ciepła.” Sytuacja ta powoli się zmienia, gdyż przystosowuje się przestrzeń publiczną do dynamicznie zmieniającego się klimatu. Jednak zmiana ta nie oznacza nowej idei, ponieważ w latach 80. i 90., bloki z wielkiej płyty otoczone były zielenią, a odległości między nimi były dużo większe niż obecne minimum określone w przepisach."(...
Model of care for a patient with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) according to the International Classification for Nursing Practice (ICNP®)
No full textAmyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is one of the most serious neurodegenerative
diseases. It is a primary degenerative disease of the nervous system with a progressive
course. ALS is a disease of unknown aetiology. For patients and families,
the greatest cruelty of this disease is the fact that as it progresses, muscle atrophy
and paresis occur. In the advanced stage, the sufferer is completely immobilised,
unable to move despite full mental capacity and awareness. Although the disease
is incurable, many of its symptoms can be alleviated, and the goal of therapy
should be to improve the quality of life and maintain the patient’s independence
for as long as possible.
The aim of this study is to develop a model of care for a patient with ALS using
the International Classification for Nursing Practice (ICNP®).
The study is based on an individual case study of a patient with ALS. Information
for the development of the nursing model was collected on the basis of
an interview with the patient and her family, observation of the patient, analysis
of medical documentation (patient’s medical history, individual patient’s order
card), laboratory test results, assessment using scales (ALSFRS-R Scale, Barthel
Index, Norton Scale), and measurements (blood pressure, pulse, temperature,
and saturation). According to the model of individual nursing care, nursing diagnoses
were made in accordance with the assumptions of the ICNP®, goals of care,
planned nursing interventions and assessment of nursing care. This chapter aims
to recognise the main health problems faced by the patient and her family. The
nursing actions taken facilitated the care of the patient and improved the quality
of her life that of her family

Terminology Reference for the Science of Psychophysiological Detection of Deception 4th Edition, 2022
No full textSince the first edition of this reference was published 25 years ago much has taken place in the polygraph field, progress which has continued in the decade since the last edition of the Terminology Reference. The transition from analog to digital polygraph is now complete, the polygraph profession has accomplished the shift from authority-based practices to those that are evidence-based, concepts and terms adopted by the polygraph field are substantially more mainstream, new credibility assessment technologies have appeared while others have disappeared, and much to the surprise of critics and detractors, predictions of the demise of the polygraph have proven to be premature. In this fourth edition of the Terminology Reference for the Science of Psychophysiological Detection of Deception we strived to capture these changes. We have updated the references, added new terms, removed others, and included images for some terms to help readers understand them better. We hope readers appreciate these updates. And finally, we sadly report the passing of our friend, colleague and contributor to previous editions of this work, Shirley Sturm in 2020. Shirley was one of the greats in the polygraph field. She was the first woman President of the American Polygraph Association, a teacher, a coveted mentor, and a fiercely independent thinker. We and the rest of the polygraph field will miss Shirley, her sense of humor, her passion for polygraph, her concern for her fellow practitioners, her commitment to the field. There was always only one Shirley Sturm and we were fortunate to have known her. Because of her lasting contribution to our shared field of endeavor we dedicate this edition of the Terminology Reference to Shirley Sturm
Maritime episodes of the Russian ‘special operation’ against Ukraine
No full textMaritime operations during Russia’s ‘special operation’ against Ukraine were complementary to land operations. However, they played an important role in the process of isolating the country and limiting its export capabilities. Pointing to selected naval episodes and showing their political, operational, and tactical context, we indicated several features demonstrating the new dimension of naval force operations and the possibility of using missile armament and air weapons to effectively counter surface ship combat teams. The purpose of the study is to show the essential elements of the naval operations conducted as part of the ‘special operation’ against Ukraine, to identify its essential features and transformations in the use of combat potential
Logistic preparation of entities participating in humanitarian aid
No full textCelem artykułu jest analiza przygotowania logistycznego podmiotów uczestniczących w działaniach niesienia pomocy humanitarnej. Część teoretyczna dotyczy znaczenia logistyki w pomocy humanitarnej. Część empiryczną stanowią przeprowadzone w 2021 r. badania na grupie podmiotów uczestniczących w działaniach pomocy humanitarnej. Badania przeprowadzono metodą sondażu diagnostycznego, techniką ankietową PAPI (Papier and Pencil Interview) oraz CAPI (Computer-Assisted Personal Interview). Organizacje, które wzięły udział w badaniu, pozytywnie oceniły swój stan przygotowania do działań logistycznych w ramach niesienia pomocy humanitarnej. Okazuje się, że w badanych organizacjach pracują specjaliści odpowiedzialni za przedsięwzięcia logistyczne i zazwyczaj zajmują kierownicze stanowiska. Z badań wynika, że warto zwrócić uwagę na dostarczane środki pomocowe, ponieważ w wielu przypadkach są one niezgodne z potrzebami poszkodowanych.The goal of this paper is to analyze the logistic preparation of entities participating in humanitarian aid activities. The theoretical part looks at the importance of logistics in humanitarian aid. The empirical part of the paper consists of research with entities that participate in humanitarian aid activities in Poland. The research was conducted by means of a diagnostic poll method with the application of a survey techniques called Paper and Pencil Interview, and Computer-Assisted Personal Interview. The research was carried out in 2021. The organizations that took part in the research positively assess their state of logistic preparation for providing humanitarian aid. It turns out that the surveyed organizations employ specialists responsible for logistics and usually those specialists hold managerial positions. The research shows that it is worth paying attention to the proper distribution of relief items, because it happens that relief items are incompatible with the needs of the victims
The application of ICG in surgical fields of medicine – a short narrative review
No full textBackground: Intraoperative near-infrared imaging using indocyanine green (ICG) has been increasingly used in procedural medical fields in recent years. The purpose of our work is to provide a general overview of the use of indocyanine green in procedural medical fields. We reviewed publications posted in PubMed, whose authors used ICG in their research, but also daily surgical practice. Many large studies have demonstrated the usefulness of this method. Currently, new directions for the use of this dye are being sought. In the future, the use of ICG in near-infrared (NIR) imaging may become a standard used in daily medical practice. Material and methods: A review of the available literature was conducted using the PubMed. The search terms ‘ICG’, ‘’indocyanine green’, ‘indocyanine green fluorescence’, and ‘NIR’ were used. Results: We analyzed several dozen articles from the large database available in PubMed. ICG is currently used in many different fields of medicine. Below we list the applications found in this review. Conclusions: Indocyanine green has demonstrated utility across various surgical disciplines within the medical field. A growing body of research has elucidated the multiple advantages conferred by this dye, thereby propelling its increased adoption by researchers and practitioners. Despite these advances, there remains a need for extensive research before ICG can be integrated into routine clinical applications
