Gender role reversal in gig economy households

    No full text
The rapid growth of the gig economy and digital platforms is challenging traditional gender roles, particularly in developing countries where structural inequalities continue to shape labor and household dynamics. Despite growing global interest in gender equity and digital inclusion, limited research has examined how gig work, digital access, and women’s income contributions interact to influence household gender dynamics within culturally conservative contexts. This study aimed to investigate the multidimensional impacts of women’s participation in gig work on time use redistribution, intra-household decision making, gender ideology, and role reversal within households in Pakistan. Using a cross-sectional survey design, data were collected from a representative sample of married couples engaged in the gig economy across urban and peri-urban areas of Pakistan. A quantitative analysis was conducted employing a combination of an analysis of variance, ordinal logistic regression, hierarchical multiple regression, and structural equation modeling to evaluate the direct and indirect relationships between constructs. The findings revealed that women’s gig work participation significantly predicted enhanced digital access, greater income contributions, and increased intra-household decision-making power. These, in turn, contributed to a measurable shift in gender ideology toward equality norms and a partial reversal of traditional gender roles, particularly in household labor division. The study concludes that the intersection of economic participation and digital empowerment serves as a catalyst for progressive gender restructuring within households. Policy implications include the need for gender-responsive labor policies, investment in digital infrastructure, and targeted interventions to support empowering women in non-traditional work roles.Hitra rast ekonomije gig in digitalnih platform predstavlja izziv za tradicionalne spolne vloge, zlasti v državah v razvoju, kjer strukturne neenakosti še naprej oblikujejo dinamiko dela in gospodinjstev.

At Rodica Primary School, the elective subject German has, for many years, been taught through methods that go beyond the confines of the classroom and traditional vocabulary drills and lesson-based instruction. Instead, we strive to introduce the language to students holistically through experiential learning. In this way, students come to understand that a language is not merely a collection of words formed into sentences, but something much greater – language integrates culture, history, time, and place. Each year, we collaborate with the Goethe-Institut Ljubljana, a cultural institution of the Federal Republic of Germany that promotes cultural exchange, education, and international cooperation, and supports the teaching of German. We take part in their workshops, where students explore in engaging ways what connects us, how Germany and Slovenia are similar, and what makes each country unique. Students learn that our shared cultural history, stretching back to the Middle Ages, is evident in the holidays we celebrate together. They explore both the similarities and differences in how these holidays are celebrated in Germany and Slovenia, discovering how such traditions can enrich our lives. In this article, we also point out how German has had a significant influence on the Slovenian language due to historical and cultural connections. This is evident in words borrowed from German, such as names of places, foods, and more. As a result, our students not only gain language skills but also grow through the experience of discovering other cultures and people, remaining motivated to learn the language throughout their lives

A study of motivational strategies in arts activities for preschool children in special education units

    No full text
Among preschool children with special educational needs, art can open additional pathways to expression, safe exploration and experimentation, and it can foster motivation for creation. The purpose of the study was to determine which strategies educators in developmental departments use to encourage the active participation of preschool children in artistic activities (RQ1), and how motivation is expressed among these children during artistic creation (RQ2). A qualitative methodology was employed, using semi-structured interviews and observations of preschool children during interdisciplinary artistic activities. The results showed that educators use diverse and tailored strategies, such as linking art with play, taking children’s interests into account, and creating a supportive and safe environment. Musical activities proved particularly effective, as they stimulated intrinsic motivation and acted as a bridge to visual/artistic expression. Children’s motivation manifested itself in active engagement, curiosity and persistence, especially in activities that allowed for choice and sensory-adapted approaches. The findings emphasise the importance of individualisation, a process-oriented approach and interdisciplinarity for fostering intrinsic motivation in children with special needs. The study originally examines the integration of musical and visual activities as a strategy for promoting the motivation of preschool children with special needs in developmental departments. In doing so, it opens up a new research and pedagogical area and offers practical guidelines for encouraging motivation through the effective incorporation of interdisciplinary approaches into special-educational practice
