Idea of sister cities and its importance for contemporary cities development – a geographical perspective. The example of Leszno
Get PDFIdea miast partnerskich w obecnym kształcie jest pokłosiem procesów rozpoczętych po zakończeniu II wojny światowej. Nowa rzeczywistość powojenna skłania bowiem kolejne samorządy miejskie do nawiązywania wzajemnych kontaktów w celu wspólnego zapobiegania dalszym konfliktom, a także odbudowy i regeneracji miast. Obecnie kontakty partnerskie miast pojawiają się z różnych względów: podobnej nazwy, historycznych powiązań lub podobieństw infrastrukturalnych. Celem tej pracy było usystematyzowanie dotychczasowych badań nad ideą miast partnerskich oraz określenie jej oddziaływania na rozwój współczesnego miasta na przykładzie średniego miasta w Polsce – Leszna. Wykorzystano wyniki autorskich badań ankietowych przeprowadzonych wśród reprezentantów leszczyńskiego pokolenia Z oraz wywiadów z przedstawicielami samorządu i biznesu. Stwierdzono, że aktywne uczestnictwo w relacjach z miastami partnerskimi ma pozytywne efekty i sprzyja rozwojowi współczesnych miast.The idea of sister cities is actually a result of the processes initiated after the Second World War. The new post-war reality prompted more and more cities to establish partnerships to avoid further conflicts, as well as to rebuild and regenerate. Nowadays, cities create such contacts for various reasons: similar name, historical links or infrastructural similarities. The paper aims to systematize the existing knowledge on the idea of sister cities and to determine the influence of the discussed idea on contemporary city development. The example was a medium-sized city in Poland – Leszno. Results of survey conducted among the generation Z representatives and interviews with self-government and business representatives were used in the paper. The author found that active participation in relations with sister cities has positive effects on the development of the engaged cities

overview of its electrochemical properties, evaluating its application to catalytic electrochemical transformation of small molecules. In this article, results of the electrochemical studies of both mononuclear and binuclear complexes of Ru(edta) are reviewed with regard to electron-transfer reaction mechanism
and activity. Their potential to act as redox mediators or catalysts in electrochemical
transformations of small molecules and enzymatic reactions, are highlighted. This review aims to contribute to the mechanistic understanding of Ru(edta) complexes in catalysis of such electrochemical transformations
Can energy self‑sufficiency be achieved? Case study of Warmińsko‑Mazurskie Voivodeship (Poland)
Get PDFAn analysis was carried out to show whether the Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodeship (Poland) could become energy selfsufficient. The technical potential of electricity and heat from renewable sources has been calculated. The calculated values are 6.93 TWh/year of electricity and 15.84 PJ/year of heat—these amounts would ensure the energy independence of the Voivodeship. The Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodeship is an example of transformation towards “green” energy, it shows that such transformation is also possible in Poland even in short term. This would reduce air pollution as well as limit the import of energy resources. It is very important, it allows us to think with optimism and implement Poland’s energy transformation towards renewable energy (RE). Additionally, a SWOT analysis of each type of RE in the Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodeship was presented. The SWOT analysis makes it possible to identify the strengths, weaknesses, prospects and threats for RE in the Voivodeship and the whole country. It has been found that there is a great interest of investors in RE in the Voivodeship, there is usually a great public support for new energy sources, and the biggest barriers are high investment costs and complicated law in Poland.Uniwersytet Mikołaja Kopernika w Toruniu
The COVID-19 Pandemic and Changes in the Demand for Cash and Payment Behaviour in Poland in 2020
Get PDFPandemia COVID-19 stała się katalizatorem raptownych zmian w zachowaniach społecznych oraz funkcjonowaniu współczesnych gospodarek. Tuż po jej ogłoszeniu, zarówno w Polsce, jak i Europie, gwałtowanie wzrósł popyt na gotówkę. Jednak dotychczasowe badania sugerują, że wzrost ten nie znalazł odzwierciedlenia w wartości płatności gotówkowych realizowanych przez konsumentów. W artykule badane są przyczyny wzrostu zapotrzebowania na gotówkę, jak również skala substytucji gotówki przez instrumenty bezgotówkowe. Do realizacji tego celu zastosowano szeroki zakres danych oraz metod analitycznych, które zgodnie z wiedzą autorów nie były dotychczas wykorzystywane dla rynku polskiego. Na podstawie uzyskanych wyników należy stwierdzić, że głównym powodem wzrostu popytu na pieniądz gotówkowy była chęć jego tezauryzacji, przy jednoczesnym spadku wykorzystania gotówki do celów transakcyjnych w trakcie pandemii
