Net Zero Water Building
Water is essential for human life, health and overall well-being, i.e. to reduce poverty and hunger. As day after day the earth's population and the need for water are increasing, whereas the amount of water is decreasing, it is becoming increasingly difficult to satisfy people's water needs. Due to the trend of urban population concentration, it can be said without exaggeration that the functioning of cities will also depend on the quantity and quality of management and distribution of water resources within cities. Drinking water from public water supply system is used in households to cover all types of daily water needs. In order to preserve water as much as possible, in terms of its quality and quantity available for human consumption, an integrated approach to water management is needed. Integral water management is essentially water production and consumption management. Zero-use water building is a building that collects rainwater and recycles its wastewater for reuse, eliminating the need for water supply from public water supply and connection to the sewer network. Appropriately collected and stored rainwater can be used multiple times in dwellings, gardens, yards, parks, for washing public areas, etc. The benefits of rainwater use are ecological and financial. A zero-water building is technologically feasible for existing buildings, but costs are quite high, and various other constraints also arise. This approach is most suitable for new buildings, where space for containers, additional pipelines and filtering systems can be set from the beginning. Zero-water buildings aim to reduce total water consumption, maximise the use of alternative water sources and minimise wastewater discharges from buildings. The paper will present the general concept of zero-water buildings and highlight the importance of water conservation
Analysis of the most probable and expected time of construction of a public building
U diplomskom radu treba napraviti procjenu konačnog vremena izvedbe javne građevine visokogradnje. Javna građevina visokogradnje za koju se procjenjivalo vrijeme izvedbe bila je dječji vrtić u Novoj Bukovici, k.č. 1378/8, k.o. Nova Bukovica u Virovitičko – podravskoj županiji. Procjena konačnog vremena izvedbe javne građevine visokogradnje napravila se pomoću dvije metode mrežnog planiranja, CPM (engl. Critical Path Method) i PERT (engl. Program Evolution and Review Techniques) metode. Prema definiranoj listi aktivnosti i poznatim količinama preuzetih iz troškovnika, primjenom CPM metode izračunato je najvjerojatnije trajanje izvedbe javne građevine. Korištenjem podataka dobivenih CPM metodom, nastavio se proračun PERT metodom, pomoću koje je izračunato očekivano vrijeme potrebno za izvedbu javne građevine. Na temelju dobivenih trajanja dvjema metodama, napravljeni su gantogrami, grafički prikazi trajanja pojedinih aktivnosti u projektu izraženi u danima. Analizirajući dobivena potrebna vremena za izvedbu građevine dvjema metodama, za vjerojatnije vrijeme izvedbe građevine, analiziran je kritični put, te su napravljeni histogrami angažiranosti radne snage po kategorijama radnika.This thesis aims to carry out an estimate of the time needed to construct a public high-rise building. The building in question is a kindergarten located in Nova Bukovica, built on cadastral parcel no. 1378/8, in cadastral municipality Nova Bukovica in the Virovitica-Podravina County. The construction time was estimated using two network planning techniques – CPM (Critical Path Method) and PERT (Program Evaluation and Review Techniques). Based on the defined list of activities and known quantities obtained from the cost statement, CPM was used to calculate the likeliest construction time. The data from the CPM was then used in PERT to determine the expected construction time. Using the results achieved by applying the two methods, Gantt charts were made to illustrate the duration of some activities in the project, calculated in days. The analysis of the times required to construct the building obtained by applying the two techniques then made it possible to analyze the critical path and create a histogram of employee engagement per category of worker
Discharge through orifice
Završni rad izrađen je iz kolegija Hidromehanika. Rad obuhvaća temu istjecanja kroz otvore (njegove
osobine i vrste istjecanja) te se sastoji od dvije cjeline. Prva cjelina se bavi teoretskim dijelom
istjecanja, a u drugoj cjelini se obrađuju laboratorijska ispitivanja provedena u skladu s naznačenom
temom. Svrha ispitivanja je bila izračun koeficijenata istjecanja za velike otvore Cilj je bio usporediti
koeficijente istjecanja za različite slučajeve te ih staviti u međusobni odnos.The thesis is made from the course Hydromechanics. The paper covers the topic of orifice discharge
(its properties and types of discharges) and consists of two parts. The first part deals with the
theoretical part of the discharge, and the second part deals with laboratory tests conducted in
accordance with the indicated topic. The purpouse of the testing was to calculate the discharge
coefficients for large orifices. The aim was to compare the discharge coefficients for different cases
and put them in relation to each other
Architecture and urban design of Gacka business zone
Urbanističko rješenje poslovne zone Gacka rezultira sugestijom daljnjeg rasta i razvoja južnog dijela grada Osijeka. Osim rješenja manje urbane cjeline od sveukupno četiri poslovne zgrade i jedne zgrade hotela, projektirana je zgrada koja sadržava prostore za rad tvrtke koja se bavi ekološkom poljoprivrednom proizvodnjom. Premisa oblikovanja zgrade polazi od težnje za vizualnim povezivanjem organskih i ortogonalnih volumena. Ortogonalnost pri oblikovanju naglašava snagu poslovnog uspjeha, dok organski
volumeni doprinose ugodnom svakodnevnom boravku.Tlocrti su koncipirani dualno te ih prate dualna pročelja.
Prostor zgrade rojektiran je kako bi se doimao fluidnim i prozračnim kako bi bio u skladu sa već propisanim urbanizmom.The urban solution of the Gacka business zone results in a suggestion of further growth and development of the southern part of the city of Osijek. In addition to the solution of a smaller urban unit than a total of four office buildings and one hotel building, a building was designed that contains premises for the operation of a company engaged in organic agricultural production.
The premise of building design starts from the difficulty of visually connecting organic and orthogonal volumes.
Orthogonality in design emphasizes the power of business success, while organic volumes contribute to a comfortable everyday stay. The floor plans are designed dual and are accompanied by dual facades. The space of the building was designed to look fluid and airy in order to be in line with the already prescribed urbanism
Residential neighbourhood Ivan Meštrović in Osijek urban analysis
Rad se sastoji od teorijskog dijela u kojemu je definirano stambeno naselje te opisana povijest stambenog naselja Vijenca Ivana Meštrovića. U drugom dijelu rada je analizirano višestambeno naselje Vijenac Ivana Meštrovića, koje se nalazi u gradu Osijeku, u Republici Hrvatskoj kao sastavni dio gradske četvrti Tvrđa. Analiziran je ukupan broj stanova, broj stanovnika u naselju, namjena svih objekata naselja, broj katova svakog objekta i energetska obnova objekata, tj. koliko objekata ima izvedenu energetsku obnovu.
Vijenac Ivana Meštrovića je višestambeno naselje u kojem ne postoji niti jedna obiteljska kuća, svi objekti su stambene zgrade, gospodarski objekti ili zgrade mješovite namjene. Prilikom terenskog istraživanja prikupljen je podatak o broju katova svih objekata, prebrojani su stanovi u svakoj zgradi, te je vizualno provjereno koja zgrada je energetski obnovljena, a koja nije. Broj stanovnika je procijenjen s prosječnom vrijednosti od 3,2 stanovnika po stanu. Za praktični dio kao podloga crteža korišten je plan iz Državne geodetske uprave Republike Hrvatske, koji je dorađen u svrhu ovoga rada.
U naselju su dvije odgojno obrazovne ustanove. Odgojno obrazovne ustanove su Osnovna škola Vijenac (Osnovna škola Boris Kidrič) i Dječji vrtić Osijek. Naselje sadrži ljekarnu, trgovine, igrališta, i razne društvene i rekreacijske objekte, sve potrebno za lakše obavljanje svakodnevnih potreba.The task consists of a theoretical part in which the residential area is defined and the history of the Vijenac residential area of Ivan Meštrović is described. In the second part of the paper, the Vijenac apartment complex of Ivan Meštrović, located in the city of Osijek, in the Republic of Croatia, as an integral part of the Tvrđa district, was analyzed. The total number of apartments, the number of residents in the settlement, the purpose of all buildings in the settlement, the number of floors of each building and the energy renovation of buildings, i.e. how many buildings have undergone energy renovation, were analyzed.
Vijenac Ivan Meštrović is a multi-residential neighborhood where there is not a single family house, all buildings are residential buildings, commercial buildings or mixed-use buildings. During the field research, data was collected on the number of floors of all buildings, the apartments in each building were counted, and it was visually checked which building had been energetically renovated and which had not. The number of tenants was estimated with an average value of 3.2 inhabitants per apartment. For the practical part, a plan from the State Geodetic Administration of the Republic of Croatia was used as a basis for the drawing, which was refined for the purpose of this work.
There are two educational institutions in the settlement. Educational institutions are Vijenac Elementary School (Boris Kidrič Elementary School) and Osijek Kindergarten. The settlement contains a pharmacy, shops, playgrounds, and various social and recreational facilities, all necessary for easier fulfillment of daily needs.
Architecture and urban design of Gacka business zone
Poslovna zona Gacka smještena je u južnom dijelu grada Osijeka uz Gacku ulicu i neposrednu blizu Južne obilaznice i Ulice kneza Trpimira. Novo planirana zgrada je smještena na zajedničkoj parceli od 13500 m2, gdje su predviđene još dvije dodatne zgrade. Cijela poslovna zona služi se jednim zajedničkim parkingom i podzemnom garažom. Odazivajući se na urbanizam i okolinu u kojoj je poslovna zgrada planirana, koncept prožimanja zelenila i izgradnje odabrana je kao glavna tema. Kruta jezgra u središtu zgrade opskrbljuje etaže te se modelira i adaptira s obzirom na sadržaje koji se pojavljuju na katu. Temu prožimanja zelenila u zgradu se uvodi terasama na kojima su smještene sadnice s vegetacijom. Tlocrt se prekida po dužoj strani te se obodno odstupa mjesto spomenutim terasama na istočnoj i zapadnoj strani. Poslovna zgrada ima četiri etaže, podrum, četiri kata i prohodni krov. Javni prostori zbog velike cirkulacije ljudi su smješteni u prizemlju dok su na katovima smješteni privatni i poluprivatni uredi uz ostali prateći sadržaj, uzimajući u obzir namjenu zgrade. Podrum je klinastog oblika i smanjen u odnosu na gornje etaže. Vanjske dimenzije zidova podruma su 40m, 24 m, 38m i 12m, dok su gornje etaže pomoću greda uvećane za 5,4 m po dužoj stranici te su dimenzija
45.4 m, 24m, 43.4m i 12m. Građevina se izvodi kao prostorno okvirna konstrukcija koja je na razini stropova povezana armirano betonskim pločama. Zgrada je pomoću jezgre po dužoj strani podijeljena na tri djela te se ujedno u središnjim osima nalaze njezini zidovi koji su povezani armiranobetonskim okvirima.The Gacka business zone is located in the southern part of the city of Osijek, along Gacka Street and in the immediate vicinity of the Southern Bypass and Knez Trpimir Street. The newly planned building is located on a joint plot of 13,500 m2, where two additional buildings are planned. The entire business zone is served by one shared parking lot and an underground garage. Responding to urbanism and the environment in which the office building is planned, the concept of permeation of greenery and construction was chosen as the main theme. The rigid core in the center of the building supplies the floors and is modeled and adapted with regard to the facilities that appear upstairs. The theme of permeation of greenery in the building is introduced by terraces on which seedlings with vegetation are located. The ground plan is interrupted on the longer side and the perimeter of the mentioned terraces on the east and west sides is receded. The office building has four floors, a basement, four floors and a passable roof. Public spaces due to the large circulation of people are located on the ground floor while on the upper floors are located private and semi-private offices with other accompanying content, taking into account the purpose of the building. The basement is wedge-shaped and reduced compared to the upper floors. The external dimensions of the basement walls are 40 m, 24 m, 38 m and 12 m, while the upper floors have been increased by 5.4 m along the longer side with the help of beams and are 45.4 m, 24 m, 43.4 m and 12 m. The building is performed as a spatially frame structure that is connected at the level of the ceilings with reinforced concrete slabs. The building is divided into three parts on the longer side by the core, and at the same time in the central
axes are its walls which are connected with reinforced concrete frames
Swept path analyses using unmanned aerial system (UAS)
The aim of this study was the verification of unmanned aerial system (UAS) application in vehicle swept path analyses by analysing the advantages and disadvantages and comparing field test results with two software solutions. In this study, swept-path analyses were performed for two vehicle types and two turning angles. UAS images were used to extract the vehicle swept path and the results were compared with two commonly used swept-path analysis software. The results indicated larger deviations between the swept paths for an angle of 125° for a light truck. For both analysed vehicles and turning angles, larger deviations were observed for the outermost point trajectory. Passenger cars occupy less space performing 125° turns than software analysis predicts, indicating that they are on the safe side when designing vehicle manipulative surfaces. For the analysed light truck, a larger turning radius was observed than the predicted for a 125° turning angle, which may be caused by the approaching and turning speeds under which the test was performed. Finally, while the UAS recording process is relatively simple and fast, data processing is demanding and time-consuming. To fulfil its full potential within swept path analyses, UAS needs to be complemented by proper data analysis software solutions for faster and more accurate swept path extraction, which would improve and rationalise the traffic area designing process

Construction material production has a great impact on the depletion of natural resources and greenhouse gas emissions caused by fossil fuel combustion, thus affecting global climate change and ozone depletion. On the other hand, building materials are largely determining the energy consumption in buildings and having environmental impacts. The goal for sustainable future in building material production is development of new environmentally friendly materials and constructions for sustainable buildings securing long-term environmental, economic, and social viability
Effect of rubber size and shape on Proctor elements of CBC mixtures
The application of recycled rubber in cement bound base courses (CBC) has recently become a subject of research. There are several advantages of the application of rubber in CBC. One is the environmental benefit considering the major problem of disposing of end-of-life tires (ELT), whose number is rapidly increasing in the modern world. On the other hand, CBC is known as the most rigid course of pavement, and is very prone to cracking. Rubber has the potential to reduce the cracking, which is another benefit of its use in those courses. This paper presents laboratory research on a reference mixture and five rubberized mixtures with different fractions of recycled rubber. The mixtures are modified with 20 % of rubber as a replacement for sand. Three fractions of granulated rubber and two fractions of rubber threads are used. The research encompasses the impact of rubber of different sizes and shapes on the Proctor elements of the CBC mixture. Furthermore, specific surface area (SSA) and SEM analysis is presented. The SSA value was found to be the most influential factor on the optimal moisture content (OMC) values, which is confirmed by SEM images. SEM analysis showed that larger particles have a flatter surface and demand higher water content. Furthermore, the rubber particle shape has a greater impact on the mixture MDD compared to the particle size, while the rubber particle size has a greater effect on the OMC compared to the rubber particle shape. Finally, the effect of the rubber particle size and shape on the OMC and MDD can be neglected and the production of cement bound aggregate incorporating waste rubber can be designed and built using reference values of the OMC and MDD
An Eye-Tracking Study on the Effect of Different Signalized Intersection Typologies on Pedestrian Performance
Pedestrian safety is a well-known issue, such that many road safety associations emphasize measures to improve this aspect. One of the main conflict points is pedestrian crossings, where motorized and non-motorized traffic flows directly interact and where pedestrian attention and reaction are two elements that can strongly influence their safety. Nowadays, these aspects are often deviated by the use of smartphones to surf the Internet or social media. The aim of the present study is to find out (1) whether and how intersection typology affects pedestrian behavior, both in terms of attention and crossing performance, and (2) whether and how gaze and behavioral characteristics are affected by smartphone use and social media browsing. To achieve this goal, eye- tracking technology was used to obtain qualitative and quantitative information on the number of fixations, their duration, and reaction times of pedestrians. Additionally, from the eye-tracking videos, it was possible to derive pedestrian waiting times, crossing times, and speeds. Statistical tests were conducted to determine if there is a significant difference in pedestrian behavior at the three different types of intersections and in their behavior when using or not using their device. Results confirm the initial hypotheses and quantify the difference in pedestrian gaze behavior and crossing performance when walking across three different types of signalized crosswalks
