Unveiling the nexus: Family engagement, innovation, and performance in Polish family enterprises
Get PDFThe article presents the research results on the relationship between family involvement and innovation of family firms and their economic performance. The following criteria were used to measure family involvement: participation of family members in the company’s management, participation in ownership, presence of family members among the company’s employees, and the act of carrying out succession. Based on the analysis of the collected data from Polish family businesses, it was found that family involvement positively influences the company’s performance. However, the relationship between family involvement and firm innovativeness, measured by the number of implemented product innovations, was statistically insignificant. Get PDFSztuczna inteligencja (AI) stanowi jeden z najszybciej rozwijających się obszarów nowych technologii. Celem artykułu jest zdiagnozowanie wykorzystywania narzędzi opartych na sztucznej inteligencji w procesie nauki przez studentów Wydziału Inżynierii Zarządzania Politechniki Białostockiej (WIZ PB) oraz identyfikacja ich wpływu na zaangażowanie w proces edukacyjny. Niniejszy cel zrealizowano poprzez badanie ilościowe z wykorzystaniem techniki CAWI. Uzyskane rezultaty zostały odniesione do szerszych badań z uczelni polskich i zagranicznych z tego obszaru. Wykazano, że AI, takie jak ChatGPT, może znacząco poprawić efektywność nauki, oszczędzając czas i zwiększając wygodę, jednakże, istnieje ryzyko zmniejszenia zaangażowania studentów w proces uczenia się oraz ich zdolności do samodzielnego myślenia i rozwiązywania problemów
Potential of industrial symbiosis towards circular economy – a case of Poland
Get PDFThe aim of this study is to investigate the role of industrial symbiosis in fostering a circular economy in Poland, with a particular emphasis on the contributions of various sectors to material circularity. Industrial symbiosis, which involves using waste or by-products from one industry as inputs for another, is identified as a key mechanism for achieving resource efficiency and sustainability. This research conducts a thorough analysis of statistical data from the past decade to pinpoint key sectors crucial for enhancing material circularity, with the mining sector emerging as a critical focus due to its significant environmental impact and resource recovery potential. The study's findings underscore the substantial benefits of shifting from a traditional linear economy to a circular economic model. By adopting industrial symbiosis practices, industries can markedly reduce their material footprint, lower environmental impacts, and create new economic opportunities. The research highlights the importance of policy frameworks and incentives to encourage the adoption of circular practices. It also addresses the challenges and opportunities of implementing industrial symbiosis, such as the need for technological advancements, industry collaboration, and supportive regulatory environments. In conclusion, this study offers valuable insights into the implementation of industrial symbiosis as a strategy for advancing the circular economy in Poland. The results indicate that such practices not only support sustainable development goals but also enhance the overall resilience of the economy. This research contributes to a broader understanding of how industrial symbiosis can be effectively leveraged to achieve sustainability and resource efficiency at a national level

Jednak, wypracowana przez wiele lat reputacja i pozytywny wizerunek organizacji zostały zachwiane w 2016 roku, w związku z kryzysem zaistniałym wokół nowego produktu Samsung Galaxy Note 7. Celem ogólnym artykułu jest próba oceny wpływu kultury organizacyjnej przedsiębiorstwa na jego odporność na sytuacje kryzysowe i proces zarządzania kryzysowego. Natomiast, celem szczegółowym jest przedstawienie doświadczeń i praktyk wypracowanych przez badane w ramach studium przypadku przedsiębiorstwo oraz próba odpowiedzi na pytanie: czy hierarchiczno-klanowy typ kultury organizacyjnej wpływa bezpośrednio na zdolność adaptacyjną organizacji do zmian i jej odporność na sytuacje kryzysowe, a co za tym idzie proces zarządzania kryzysowego. Przeprowadzona w artykule analiza studium przypadku przedsiębiorstwa Samsung Electronics doprowadziła do ogólnego wniosku, że zaistniały kryzys objawił poważne problemy w kulturze organizacyjnej Samsunga. Hierarchiczno-klanowa kultura organizacji przedsiębiorstwa nie sprawdziła się w sytuacji kryzysowej. Scentralizowana i zhierarchizowana zamknięta kultura organizacyjna nie była gotowa na nagłe i radykalne zmiany, zatem okazała się mało elastyczna i nisko odporna na sytuacje kryzysowe. W artykule podjęto również próbę uzupełnienia wiedzy we współczesnej literaturze na temat kultury organizacji i zarządzania kryzysowego, nie tylko poprzez ukazanie negatywnych doświadczeń badanej organizacji, ale także wskazanie dobrych praktyk, które wdrożyło przedsiębiorstwo Samsung w okresie pokryzysowym
Rola przywództwa transformacyjnego w zwiększaniu satysfakcji zawodowej nauczycieli edukacji podstawowej
Get PDFTh e present study explores the impact of transformational leadership on the job satisfaction of primary education teachers. The research is part of an academic context in which transformational leadership has become central to studying organizational effectiveness and employee well-being. Through a literature review, the research nuances the various theories of transformational leadership and how they correlate with teacher job satisfaction. A questionnaire was created and applied to a group of primary education teachers from the Republic of Moldova to investigate the relationship between these two concepts. Analysing the collected information allowed the identification of the leadership aspects most appreciated by the teaching staff and those that could be improved to increase job satisfaction. Also, the study off ers concrete recommendations from the teachers surveyed for improving leadership practices in educational institutions. The research conclusions emphasize the role of transformational leadership in creating a positive and stimulating work environment for teachers, thus contributing to increasing job satisfaction and, implicitly, improving the quality of the educational process.Niniejsze badanie analizuje wpływ przywództwa transformacyjnego na satysfakcję zawodową nauczycieli edukacji podstawowej. Badanie wpisuje się w akademicki kontekst, w którym przywództwo transformacyjne stało się kluczowym zagadnieniem w analizie efektywności organizacyjnej i dobrostanu pracowników. Na podstawie przeglądu literatury badanie uwzględnia różne teorie przywództwa transformacyjnego oraz ich korelację z satysfakcją zawodową nauczycieli. W celu zbadania relacji między tymi dwoma konceptami opracowano i zastosowano kwestionariusz wśród grupy nauczycieli edukacji podstawowej z Republiki Mołdawii. Analiza zgromadzonych danych pozwoliła zidentyfi kować aspekty przywództwa najbardziej cenione przez kadrę nauczycielską oraz te, które wymagają udoskonalenia w celu zwiększenia satysfakcji zawodowej. Ponadto badanie zawiera konkretne rekomendacje sformułowane przez ankietowanych nauczycieli dotyczące poprawy praktyk przywódczych w instytucjach edukacyjnych. Wnioski z badań podkreślają znaczącą rolę przywództwa transformacyjnego w tworzeniu pozytywnego i stymulującego środowiska pracy dla nauczycieli, co przyczynia się do wzrostu ich satysfakcji zawodowej, a tym samym do poprawy jakości procesu edukacyjnego
Effect of Synthetic Polypeptide–Bio-Surfactant Composition on the Formation and Stability of Foams
Get PDFAbstract: In recent decades, numerous studies have focused on finding environmentally friendly substitutes for commonly used petrochemical-based compounds. This paper explores the potential use of poly-L-lysine/rhamnolipids and poly-L-glutamic acid/ethyl lauroyl arginate mixtures, for foam formation and stabilization. Two complementary methods were employed to investigate the synergistic and antagonistic effects of these mixed polyelectrolyte/surfactant systems: (1) the thinning and rupture of thin foam films formed under dynamic conditions were monitored using a dynamic fluid-film interferometer (DFI), and (2) foamability tests were conducted using a standard dynamic foam analyzer (DFA). The results demonstrated that adding polyelectrolyte to an oppositely charged surfactant primarily induces a synergistic effect, enhancing foaming properties and extending foam
lifetime. Furthermore, interferometric methods confirmed improved stability and slower drainage of thin foam films in systems containing synthetic polypeptides

Get PDFThe article discusses the intersection between emotions and physical health in the narration of the “Annales seu cronicae incliti regni Poloniae” by Jan Długosz (1415–1480). The research is placed within the framework of the history of emotions, a field aimed at determining how people in the past used to perceive and experience emotions. Its main scope is to find out how emotions can influence the body and health according to the medieval author. The descriptions of illnesses and deaths caused by the influence of emotions are analysed both from the point of view of the medieval medicine and approach to emotions as well as contemporary concepts of psychosomatics and Susan Sontag’s approach.Narodowe Centrum Nauk

Restitution of silver fir in the Sudetes – environmental, social and economic effects
Get PDFThe aim of this article was to analyse the environmental, economic and social effects of the measures implemented as
part of the Silver Fir Restitution Programme in the Sudeten Mountains. The data was collected in five forest districts of the Polish
State Forest Administration – State Forests National Forest Holding (Forest Districts: Bystrzyca Kłodzka, Kamienna Góra,
Międzylesie, Szklarska Poręba and Zdroje). The results confirmed a significant increase in the proportion of silver fir in the
youngest age classes in each of the forest districts surveyed, which indicates positive progress in the implementation of the
programme. An analysis of the financial costs incurred in recent years was carried out and their increase was forecast for the future.
In addition, an attempt was made to determine the specific financial benefits associated with the restoration of a certain proportion of fir in the Sudeten Mountains and its subsequent use in forest management. Additionally, the efforts of the State Forest Administration to raise public awareness through extensive educational activities were analysed and suggestions for improvement were made for communicating the goals and benefits of the programme. It should be noted that despite the visible progress in restoration, sustainable forest management poses new challenges, such as the permanent exclusion of forest areas from utilisation and the instability of the silver fir population in the Sudetes, which requires continuous protection. Before further strengthening the silver fir population in the Sudeten Mountains, it is necessary to maintain the continuity of restoration measures and provide further financial support
Tailoring the Properties of Gel Polymer Electrolytes for Sodium-Ion Batteries Using Ionic Liquids: A Review
Get PDFIonic liquids are an extraordinary group of compounds, fullyionic in structure like inorganic salts but with low meltingpoints, that resemble organic molecular solvents. Their chem-ical, electrochemical, and thermal stability is what draws theattention and enables their use in many applications, includingelectrochemical power sources. Even though they are no longerconsidered eco-friendly because of nonnegligible toxicity andlong bioaccumulation, they can still be efficiently recovered,purified, and reused. These attributes can be harvested toenhance the properties of gel polymer electrolytes for theemerging sodium-ion batteries. The variety of anions andcations for ILs and their influence on the final properties of thecompound opens the road to tuning the properties of gelpolymer electrolytes. Ionic liquids as plasticizers constitute amajor part of gel polymer electrolytes (average of 70 wt%) andhence, they affect the fundamental properties of gel electro-lytes like ionic conductivity and electrochemical window. Theyalso improve the safety features of sodium-ion batteries, whichis relevant for their anticipated applications in stationary energystorage and electric vehicles.
