Wpływ opinii internetowych na wybory konsumenckie

    No full text

The Linguistic Image of Fish in Spanish, Arabic, and Japanese: A Comparative Study

    No full text
This paper explores the linguistic and cultural significance of the term 'fish' across three languages: Spanish, Arabic, and Japanese. By analysing phraseological units (PhUs), including collocations and proverbs, the study integrates cultural linguistics and phraseology to show how fish-related PhUs reflect broader cultural values and beliefs, as well as the historical, religious, and social contexts. The research draws from a variety of dictionaries and linguistic sources to examine these representations, revealing how the symbolism of fish permeates worldviews in maritime cultures

Digital drug trading ecologies in context: Technological, geographic, and linguistic variation across darknet platforms

    No full text
Background Previous research on darknet drug markets has primarily concentrated on large, English-language cryptomarkets, often overlooking regionally oriented platforms that operate in national languages. This study adopts a comparative, exploratory approach to examine how drug trade practices vary across linguistic, geographic, and technological contexts. We introduce the concept of “drug trading ecologies” to describe how platform features, communication norms, and localized settings together shape distinct trading environments. Methods Using a mixed-methods approach, we analyzed web-crawled data from three Tor-based platforms: Tsatti (Finnish-language chat), Cebulka (Polish-language forum), and Nemesis (English-language cryptomarket). Data were collected through customized web scraping and analyzed using statistical tools and qualitative content coding to examine platform-specific patterns. Our comparative approach highlights structural and localization-specific variations without attempting exhaustive conceptual definitions. Results Each platform displayed a distinct configuration shaped by its technical affordances and localization-specific user practices. Tsatti supported fast, hyperlocal, and highly anonymized exchanges with minimal user identity or community features. Cebulka enabled semi-public vendor-buyer interactions, trust-building through discourse, and diverse product bundling. Nemesis functioned as a transnational, professionalized cryptomarket with standardized listings, formalized trust mechanisms, and branding strategies. Conclusions Rather than attributing differences solely to local, transnational, or design factors in isolation, we argue that darknet drug trading ecologies emerge from the intersection of platform architecture, localization (geographic scope), and language. Our findings underscore the importance of considering these factors when conducting digital ethnography in illicit economies and providing concrete entry points for tailoring harm reduction interventions responsive to the diverse realities of online drug trading. This research is supported by the Polish National Science Centre, Poland (Narodowe Centrum Nauki), grant: 2021/43/B/HS6/00710. Cultural tourism is considered to be one of the most dynamic developing forms of contemporary tourism. In so far as leisure natural features seem to be limited in terms of their diversity (and they come down to these features of natural environment, which let tourists rest passively or actively or enhance their mental or physical health), human culture – extremely rich, multidimensional and complex – offers enormous volume of its products and cultural practices, which might be interesting to tourists. Human culture reflects itself in cultural landscapes, and they make strict relations with tourism. The paper’s aim is to describe tourism potential of cultural landscapes of the selected Baltic islands, presented as a source of knowledge on communities settled there, and with reference to de-velopment of particular forms of cultural tourism

Next Generation Squad Weapon – A revolution in combat weapons for U.S. Army infantry?

In recent years, there has been a noticeable increase in military expenditure of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and the Russian Federation. This trend has raised concerns especially in the United States, since the PRC’s authorities want it to emerge as a global superpower. The importance of this country in international relations is also increasing due to a decline in Russia’s capabilities, which results from the ongoing war in Ukraine (however, it should be noted that Russia still remains an influential actor). Those ambitious plans have prompted a response from Washington, accelerating the strategic competition across various domains, including the military one. In this field, it is manifested in technological advancements, which refers not only to highly complex weapon systems, such as aircraft or vessels, but also to individual equipment. Among many components of the American response to Chinese and Russian activities, the Next Generation Squad Weapon (NGSW) program is worth mentioning. This is because its purpose is to replace the AR-15 family of firearms, which have remained in service within the U.S. Army for over 60 years, with a completely new armament system. However, it should be noted that its implementation will initially be limited to units designated for direct combat operations (referred to as close combat units). Similarly, soldiers who have operated the M249 light machine gun so far are going to be armed with a next-generation weapon system. Notably, the program is not limited to developing firearms. Particularly, its other components consist of an advanced telescopic sight and a new type of ammunition. Owing to the fact that these weapon systems are currently being introduced into service, it is worth considering if their implementation will represent a breakthrough for the U.S. Army infantry. If so, what consequences might emerge from this change? In order to answer this question, particular elements of the program are going to be examined, after a brief overview of its history. The analysis is going to be based on articles, official statements and other materials published by the U.S. Army and the manufacturers of the new weapon systems

    No full text
Background: Relationship between obesity and cardiovascular diseases is complex. This study aimed to evaluate the correlation between diet-induced obesity and atherogenic indices. Material and methods: Two groups of 8-weeks old male Wistar rats (170 ± 15 g) were fed with normal chow and high fat diet (HFD) respectively ad libitum for 10 weeks. Body mass index (BMI), adiposity index, serum lipid profile and atherogenic indices were measured. Associations between lipidemic indices, BMI and atherogenic indices were evaluated. Results: The group fed with HFD only had significantly increased BMI (0.7630 ± 0.083, p = 0.0065). Serum TG (p 0.0.71 g/cm2). There was a significant positive linear association of BMI with most of the atherogenic indices investigated: coronary risk ratio (CRR) (OR 48; 95% CI 4.993, 461.50; p < 0.001), atherogenic index (AI) (OR 1.0; 95% CI = 2.56, 229.57; p < 0.001) and atherogenic coefficient (AC) (OR 65.0; 95% CI 6.68, 648.26; p < 0.001). Conclusions: Consumption of HFD induces hyperlipidemia and increase the risk of coronary artery diseases by increasing the atherogenic indices
