Gendered Geoscience for Territorial Sustainability: Integrating Geodiversity, Community Knowledge, and Acoustic Biodiversity in La Guajira

    No full text
This paper presents the outcomes of a research and innovation initiative developed within the Orquídeas Postdoctoral Program, promoted by the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation of Colombia. The project was led by a female group: a postdoctoral fellow, a young researcher, a senior scientist, and a science communication manager from the School of Applied Sciences and Engineering at Universidad EAFIT, in close collaboration with a leader from the Fundación Movimiento Feminista Niñas y Mujeres Wayuu (MFNMW). Together, we co designed and implemented a territorial exploration framework that bridges scientific methods with ancestral wisdom, with a strong emphasis on gender equity, intercultural dialogue, and sustainable landscape management. The study focuses on geodiversity and morphometric diversity in La Guajira, a region of exceptional geological and cultural value. We identified 30 Sites of Geological Interest (SGIs) through integrated GIS analysis, field validation, and participatory mapping. Our findings indicate a strong correlation between morphometric and geological diversity, influenced by the structural dynamics of the Oca and Cuisa faults and the hydrological role of the Ranchería River. The initiative emphasizes intergenerational learning, the leadership of women in geosciences, and the contributions of local communities, especially Wayuu women, to sustainable resource governance. It aligns with Colombia’s national science missions in Bioeconomy and Territory, Science for Peace, and the Human Right to Food, and incorporates acoustic biodiversity related to bats as indicators of ecosystem health.

    No full text
ZIBASThis study analyzes the relationship between Colombian free zones and the technological sophistication of exports over the period 2005–2024. It adopts a non-experimental, longitudinal design with a descriptive–correlational scope, grounded in a quantitative approach. A technological sophistication index was developed based on Lall’s (2000) classification, applied to microdata covering both total exports and those originating from free zones. The findings reveal that free zones display a technological sophistication index 42.7% higher than that of national exports and, on average, contributed 2.3% to the national index during the study period. Nevertheless, their relative weight in foreign trade remains limited, which may restrict their structural impact. At the subnational level, coastal departments such as Atlántico, Bolívar, and Valle del Cauca account for the largest share, underscoring the importance of geographic location. Heterogeneous trajectories were also observed: in some cases, the establishment of permanent free zones coincided with improvements in sophistication in Cundinamarca and Risaralda; in Quindío, with deterioration; while in Cauca and Santander, no significant effects were detected. The study concludes that free zones may operate as enclaves of diversification and resilience, particularly in the face of external crises, but they do not by themselves constitute engines of technological transformation. Their contribution ultimately depends on structural characteristics of the departments, which the literature links to governance, incentives, and infrastructure.

Caso Conecta Salud S. A.

Conecta Salud S.A., a company established by public deed No. 4594 on December 31, 2011, and registered with the Cali Chamber of Commerce on February 10, 2012, had as its corporate purpose the commercialization, development, and provision of technology services to clients linked to the General System of Social Security in Health. This included services related to data processing, networks, and other information technology activities resulting from the operations of natural or legal persons aimed at conducting electronic information transactions. The company operated as a subsidiary of the Cooperativa Médica del Valle y de Profesionales de Colombia (Coomeva), which held 52% of its capital. On November 10, 2022, an extraordinary general shareholders’ meeting was held to discuss the early dissolution of the company. This decision stemmed primarily from difficulties in generating new operating income, the devaluation of productive assets, and liquidity problems in meeting operational obligations. These issues led to the reasonable conclusion that the company lacked both the structural capacity and the resources necessary to operate predictably in the future. Moreover, it no longer met the going concern assumption, further reinforcing the uncertainty surrounding the continuity of its business model.MaestríaMagíster en Administración Financier
