    Get PDF
The accounting system is one of the base categories of accounting as a discipline. Nevertheless, the different constructs that find their base on the accounting system have shown to be unsatisfactory when it comes to comprehend reality, which seems to be more complex than it has ever been. This becomes evident when we take into consideration that the whole/part perspective, essential to the conception of the accounting system, performs certain functions expected to keep the whole in such dichotomy. Bearing this in mind, this investigation carried out a systemic-constructivist analysis of the different conceptions regarding the accounting system, elaborated from the perspective system/environment. This perspective ceases to refer only to worldly issues (cause/effect) and to the preestablished (means/end), in order to refer to what is possible as fundamental, where the function becomes relevant not for being a producing or adapting factor to keep, but because it is a process /observation that has world ordering as a goal, that is, the organization of analogous solutions. To achieve this, Niklas Luhmann‘s social system theory and method was used to complete the traditional conception of system, which can be identified within the core of paradigms regarding the accounting system

Assessment of the current situation of informal recyclers and recycling: Case study Bogotá

    No full text
The contribution of recyclers to the environment and the local economy is not recognized and they are not remunerated for the service they provide to the city. It is well known that informal collection contributes to the recycling of resources in a positive way, but it is also associated with several environmental, health, and social problems. In Colombia, these recyclers work informally. In 2016, Decree 596 was issued, which regulates the utilization of the public cleaning service and the transitory regime for the formalization of informal recyclers. The objective of this work is to evaluate the social and technical impact of recycling in the city of Bogotá three years after the regulations were issued. A study was carried out in order to study how recyclers have been affected by the new regulations after three years of validity as well as understand their perceptions of the evolution of recycling in the city. The study consisted of a series of surveys of recyclers from a statistical sample with 0.05 error that applied a mixed approach. Qualitative and quantitative analysis were included. This analysis was done in order to mix statistical results with deep analysis. The survey indicated that a low percentage of users (good 28%) performed good processes of separation at the source, which lowers the recovery of materials and prevents the potential use of many others. Likewise, it was evidenced that for a material to be sold or commercialized it depends significantly on the separation at the source. In addition, according to the perception of the respondents, society tends to discriminate against them, which leads to the conclusion that discrimination still exists between both the government and society. Finally, the current legislation has not been effective in its implementation and court declarations regarding recyclers as people with inherent rights have not yet been applied in Colombia. © 2019 by the authors

Wood walls insulated with coconut fiber [Muro de madera aislado con fibra de coco]

    No full text
Solid wood gives the shape to walls, while panels are the coating and they are nailed or screwed to the wood sections. In the cavities between the wood elements and the panels, a thermal and acoustic insulator must be added. Unfortunately, almost all of the currently used insulators (mineral wool, expanded polystyrene, polyurethane) are not biodegradable and require the use of vapor barriers (polyethylene sheets, aluminum foils, etc.) that deteriorate rapidly and that are relatively environmentally unfriendly. In this article, the use of coconut fiber instead of conventional insulators is suggested. The acoustic absorption and thermal conductivity coefficients of composite sections taken from wood walls with coconut fiber are estimated. In this way, good thermo-acoustic conditions inside the wood building are achieved using an ecological insulating material. © The author; licensee Universidad Nacional de Colombia

Sacred Places and Symbolic Altars in Medellin Lugares sagrados e altares simbólicos em Medellín [Lugares sagrados y altares simbólicos en Medellín]

We make an invitation to visit places where intercultural processes are evident and borders of past and present, rural and urban, as well as the sacred and profane blur. Recognizing the aesthetic singularity that inhabits Medellin city, we were able to relate heteroclite objects in what is recognizable as contemporary rituals and, in this sense, the aesthetics referred to as Chicanas with the intimate scenes of meaning in Medellin, which reflect in visual cartographies of beliefs that evoke Christian religious icons intimately connected with Antioquia s peasant culture. We present a series of photographs to establish connections at the level of the symbolic structures between the Bello Oriente neighborhood altars and some Chicano art manifestations characterized by the use of religious, political, and cultural symbols that reflect social and identity problems in urban scenarios. © 2019 Universidad del Rosario. Magneto-optical properties of Fibonacci graphene superlattices

    No full text
Abstract: We have studied the transition strength and magneto-optical absorption in Fibonacci graphene superlattices under the effects of perpendicularly applied magnetic field. It is shown that the former quantity present self-similarity and anti-self-similarity behavior at magnetic field strengths connected via ?4 and ?2, respectively, ? being the golden mean. In order to be able to observe this effect, it is necessary that for a particular field the transition strength curve is displaced laterally as a rigid body so that the adjustment is achieved with that corresponding to the other field. It was found that this shifting is determined by the symmetry and scaling properties of the Fibonacci structure. For all the magnetic fields and polarizations of the incident radiation considered here, it is observed that the absorption spectra have the characteristic of self-similarity and also that they show resonant peak structures that satisfy selection rules that keep, in very good approximation, the same characteristics of graphene monolayers. We showed analytically that the similarity properties of both the transition strength and optical absorption are a direct consequence of those of the magnetic subbands. Extension of the Systemic Entrepreneurship Intention Model in university students

    No full text
The extension of the Systemic Entrepreneurship Intention Model, to identify and understand the factors, and their relations, that promote university students' entrepreneurial intention, was proposed in this paper. That is, in the long run, one of the main strategies to promote economic development. The Confirmatory Factor Analysis methodology to analyze the data collected from a selfadministrative questionnaire, which was applied to students of three universities of Colombia, was performed. It was found that personal attitudes and perceived feasibility are the most influential factors when it comes to starting a business. Moreover, young people may have greater intentions of creating a company when they identify good ideas and they perceive them feasible regardless of their risk levels. It is recommended implementing this model in the context of university students in emerging economies to obtain reliable results in understanding their behavior. © 2019, Serbian Journal of Management

Symmetry-protected metallic and topological phases in penta-materials

    No full text
We analyze the symmetry and topological features of a family of materials closely related to penta-graphene, derived from it by adsorption or substitution of different atoms. Our description is based on a novel approach, called topological quantum chemistry, that allows to characterize the topology of the electronic bands, based on the mapping between real and reciprocal space. In particular, by adsorption of alkaline (Li or Na) atoms we obtain a nodal line metal at room temperature, with a continuum of Dirac points around the perimeter of the Brillouin zone. This behavior is also observed in some substitutional derivatives of penta-graphene, such as penta-PC2. Breaking of time-reversal symmetry can be achieved by the use of magnetic atoms; we study penta-MnC2, which also presents spin-orbit coupling and reveals a Chern insulator phase. We find that for this family of materials, symmetry is the source of protection for metallic and nontrivial topological phases that can be associated to the presence of fractional band filling, spin-orbit coupling and time-reversal symmetry breaking. © 2019, The Author(s)

Optoelectronic properties of phosphorene quantum dots functionalized with free base porphyrins

    No full text
Electronic and optical properties of phosphorene quantum dots functionalized with an organic molecule, porphyrin, are investigated using density functional theory with two different van der Waals functionals. The electronic structure of this complex is obtained and with this information, the real and imaginary parts of the dielectric function are calculated, from which, the interband optical response can be determined. Depending on the size of the quantum dot and the relative orientation between the dot and the organic molecule, it is found that the porphyrin physisorption leads to important modifications of the energy spectrum of the functionalized blue phosphorene quantum dots. These changes reflect in the optical response of the complex which shows features that come from both the blue phosphorene structure and the organic molecule. It is also found that the rotations of the molecule with respect to the phosphorene quantum dot do not practically alter the value of the binding energy. © 2019 Elsevier B.V
