Improving cross-docking operations for consumer goods sector using metaheuristics
This paper aims to model a consumer goods cross-docking problem, which is solved using metaheuristics to minimize makespan and determine the capacity in terms of inbound and outbound docks. The consumer-goods cross-docking problem is represented through inbound and outbound docks, customer orders (products to be delivered to customers), and metaheuristics as a solution method. Simulated annealing (SA) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) are implemented to solve the cross-docking problem. Based on the results of statistical analysis, it was identified that the two-way interaction effect between inbound and outbound docks, outbound docks and items, and items and metaheuristics are the most statistically significant on the response variable. The best solution provides the minimum makespan of 973.42 minutes considering nine inbound docks and twelve outbound docks. However, this study detected that the combination of six inbound docks and nine outbound docks represents the most efficient solution for a crossdocking design since it reduces the requirement of docks by 28.6% and increases the makespan by only 4.2% when compared to the best solution, representing a favorable trade-off for the cross-docking platform design. © 2021, Institute of Advanced Engineering and Science. Improvement of the algorithm ADR in an internet of things network LoRaWAN by using machine learning [Mejoramiento del algoritmo ADR en una red de internet de las cosas LoRaWAN usando aprendizaje de máquina]
The Internet of Things (IoT) is an enabling paradigm for Industry 4.0, where sensors and actuators connect to the Internet. The protocol LoRaWAN (Long Range Area Network) is one of the most used in the IoT, and its primary objective is to transmit sensor information over long distances with minimal energy consumption. This protocol implements Adaptive Data Rate scheme to optimize the energy consumed per node, which, when evaluated through exhaustive simulations in Omnet ++, has exhibited opportunities for improvement in convergence time. The present work shows machine learning models based on parametric and non-parametric methods based on Support Vector Machines (SVM) and Artificial Neural Networks (ANN). The results indicate that the SVM and ANN methods have a success rate greater than 90% in the estimated parameters. © 2020, Associacao Iberica de Sistemas e Tecnologias de Informacao. Fibrillatory conduction in a simulated two-dimensional model of human atrial tissue: effect of the interaction of two ectopic foci
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common tachyarrhythmia. It has been demonstrated that extra-stimuli could act as triggers for AF. In many patients it is possible that multiple ectopic foci co-exist, and their interactions may generate complex conduction patterns. Our goal is to investigate the influence of the focus frequency, conduction velocity, and anisotropy on fibrillatory pattern generation during the interaction of multiple ectopic activities under electrical remodeling conditions. Our results support the broadly accepted theory that ectopic activity acting in remodeled tissue is an initiator of reentrant mechanisms. These reentrant circuits can generate fibrillatory activity when interacting with other rapid ectopic foci and under the following conditions: high ectopic focus frequency, slow conduction velocity, and anisotropic tissue. Analyses of electrogram polymorphism allow determination of which zones of tissue permit one to know in which zone of tissue unstable activity exists. Our results give useful insights into the electrophysiological parameters that determine the initiation and maintenance of fibrillatory conduction by two ectopic foci interaction in a simulated two-dimensional sheet of human atrial cells, under chronic AF conditions. © The Author(s) 2018
The notion of equipartition of fraction and its verification tools in a musical context [La noción de equipartición de fracción y sus herramientas de verificación en un contexto musical]
The objective of this research is to analyze the construction of the concept of equipartition in elementary students, through musical objects. This interest arose upon observing that the methods currently used to teach fractions do not offer a mechanism for checking the existence of the equality of the parties. Therefore, this study aims to provide students with various tools to identify the acoustic consequences that arise from non-compliance with equipartition. They can be represented in a visual, bodily, and auditory way. This qualitative research with curricular development was conducted among 4th and 5th graders of elementary school in a rural context. The findings of the research include the fact that students, by immersing themselves in a real interdisciplinary world, acquire physical and symbolic tools to determine the existence or not of a equipartition. This is how scenarios other than the traditional ones, endowed with experiences and representations, contribute to the construction of the notion of equipartition in students. © 2019 Emerson de Pietri
International market selection methodology for exporting cheese from Colombia
This article aims to provide a quantitative methodology of easy implementation and understanding in order to support the international market selection (IMS). The proposed methodology allows weighing factors related to cost, logistics, trade barriers, and culture. In order to validate the proposed methodology, we study the international market selection for cheese from Colombia, and we apply a sensitivity analysis which tests the impact of these weights. In this sense, it is concluded that France is the most appropriate market followed by the Netherlands according to the weights assigned to the variables and factors. Analysis of the evolution of the use of operational risk accounts in financial institutions in Colombia [Análisis de la evolución del uso de las cuentas contables de riesgo operativo en las entidades financieras en Colombia]
Operating risk has been implemented in financial institutions in Colombia since 2007 with the requirements of the SARO, among the requirements is the accounting disclosure of losses generated by this type of risk, therefore it is necessary to perform an analysis of its evolution and how it has been the use of operational risk accounts in financial institutions in Colombia, particularly in Banks, Pension Funds and Fiduciaries. © 2018, Revista Espacios. © 2018, Revista Espacios
Augmented reality and problem-based learning as a strategy that living labs support [La realidad aumentada y el aprendizaje basado en problemas como estrategia que soportan los living lab]
The accelerated changes that the uses of information technologies (IT) have provoked in different social, political, economic, and cultural scenarios in the global sphere have led to an investigation and questioning in such an important area as education, on how to use IT-supported educational models and strategies for the benefit of educational scenarios and their actors. To answer these concerns, the aim of this article is to make a state of the art on: augmented reality (AR), living labs and active learning strategies that accompany educational initiatives supported by IT, the methodology used to make the state of the art on the subject is the systematic review of literature and additional tools of analysis were used as it was the tree of science. The results obtained show that IT is in exponential use as a support in the current teaching-learning scenarios and their actors. Most of the research carried out in AR applied to education has concentrated on identifying the benefits of AR in science education, ecology, field trips, mathematics and geometry, scientific studies and in general activities where students can observe elements that could not be visualized in the real world without the use of a specialized device. The results in the tests of living laboratories or Living Labs equipped with AR technology showed as positive that both theory and practice can be combined so that students can associate abstract content with real situations when learning, through electronic devices that explain the actions to be executed and have clarity of the desired objective. And finally, some authors mention that the teaching-learning process has been focused on the development of games through problem-based learning methodologies or ABP, structured in role-playing allowing the realization of participatory simulations of co-creation and developing collaborative learning strategies. © 2020, Associacao Iberica de Sistemas e Tecnologias de Informacao.
