This paper employs a comparative methodology to examine two distinct cases: the Way of Santiago de Compostela, which is characterised by structured, multi-level management, and the more informal grassroots initiatives of the Ancient Sicilian Transversal, where governance largely relies on local associations and bottom-up initiatives. This study identifies the challenges and opportunities presented by each pathway, evaluating strategies and integrated interventions to foster architectural projects to achieve economic and social sustainability, widespread accessibility of places, and reduction of inequalities in rural areas

    Water and industrial development in agriculture in Málaga: the reservoir El Chorro and the Caminito del Rey

    La llegada del ferrocarril a Álora en 1865 abrió nuevas perspectivas de desarrollo económico local, que continuó a partir de 1903 con la construcción de embalses para la producción de electricidad, permitiendo el establecimiento de otras fábricas. El ingeniero Rafael Benjumea construyó los saltos El Chorro y Guadalteba a ambos lados del impresionante desfiladero de Los Gaitanes, y una estrecha pasarela a gran altura para comunicarlos. Su restauración ha abierto nuevas perspectivas turísticas para esta zona basadas en el paisaje y el turismo industrial. En la actualidad se está promoviendo la candidatura del Caminito del Rey para que sea incluido en el listado de patrimonio mundial de UNESCO. Sin embargo, en su promoción se ignora la naturaleza industrial de este bien. En este artículo se aporta información novedosa sobre las fábricas de este enclave y sobre las técnicas de construcción de los embalses, las circunstancias en las que se realizaron y quiénes fueron sus constructores. Para la realización de este trabajo se ha manejado documentación del Archivo Histórico Provincial de Málaga y bibliografía especializada, y se ha realizado un exhaustivo trabajo de campo

    User-Driven Development of a Digital Behavioral Intervention for Chronic Pain: Multimethod Multiphase Study

    Background: Recent research shows that chronic pain affects 27% of the adult population. For many, pain significantly impairs quality of life and everyday functioning. Behavioral interventions have shown utility, but access remains limited. Digital health solutions can increase reach, but there is a need for user-friendly, feasible, and evidence-based digital interventions. Objective: This study aimed to clarify how a digital behavioral intervention for people with chronic pain can be developed through a user-centered approach to address the needs and preferences of the target population. Methods: This study used a multimethod approach involving end users, namely, patients with chronic pain and therapists, to develop prototypes for a digital behavioral intervention across 3 phases. In the preparation phase (phase 0), fictional patient personas (n=3) were created to represent the diversity of the target population while emphasizing transdiagnostic features across people with chronic pain. In the design phase (phase 1), qualitative data from focus groups with patients (n=5; aged 37-51 years; 4/5, 80% women; 2/5, 40% diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome; 3/5, 60% either undiagnosed or uncertain about their diagnosis) and therapists (n=12 licensed psychologists; aged 29-64 years; 9/12, 75% women) were collected to explore end-user preferences for the intervention design and content. In the testing phase (phase 2), the initial full prototype of the digital intervention was piloted with patients (n=11; aged 36-58 years; 9/11, 82% women; with diverse diagnoses, including migraine, arthritis, fibromyalgia, complex regional pain syndrome, hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, herniated disc, chronic fatigue syndrome, and 1/11, 9% cases of undiagnosed pain) and therapists (n=3 licensed psychologists; aged 36-58 y; 3/3, 100% women). The Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research was used to structure analyses of end-user feedback.Results: On the basis of end-user input, a 6-week digital behavioral intervention for chronic pain was created. Focus groups highlighted the importance of accessibility and adaptability of the digital intervention, emphasizing the need for tailored content, flexibility (eg, contact with the therapist via asynchronous messaging, telephone, or video calls), and user-friendly design (eg, easy navigation between modules, short microsessions, and visualizations). Average weekly ratings (scale from 1=not at all to 7=very much) by patients during pilot-testing indicated that the intervention was helpful (mean range 4.27-5.45, SD range 1.20-2.20), enjoyable (mean range 3.81-4.81, SD range 1.12-2.08), and understandable (mean range 4.45-6, SD range 1.30-1.86), suggesting initial acceptability and usability of the intervention. Conclusions: The results illustrated the utility of the patient personas when preparing, of the focus groups when designing, and of the end-user feedback when testing this new digital intervention for people with chronic pain. The findings indicated that the intervention is promising while also providing relevant end-user suggestions (eg, video content, text-to-speech function, and add-on modules) to guide further improvements.Afa Insuranc

    This database is made up of EEG signals from 6 subjects listening to sentences in different languages and their answers to the questions: have you understood the meaning of the sentence?. The languages chosen are: english, german, italian, korean and spanish. These signals have been captured with the BrainVision actiCHAMP-PLUS system and consist of a total of 64 EEG channels. The BrainVision Recorder software was used to store the signals. The stimulus presentation software used to design the experiment is Eprime 3.     Learning-based state estimation in distribution systems with limited real-time measurements

    The task of state estimation in active distribution systems faces a major challenge due to the integration of different measurements with multiple reporting rates. As a result, distribution systems are essentially unobservable in real time, indicating the existence of multiple states that result in identical values for the available measurements. Certain existing approaches utilize historical data to infer the relationship between real-time available measurements and the state. Other learning-based methods aim to estimate the measurements acquired with a delay, generating pseudo-measurements. Our paper presents a methodology that utilizes the outcome of an underdetermined state estimator of an unobservable network state estimator to exploit information on the joint probability distribution between real-time available measurements and delayed ones to generate new physics-informed interpretable features. Through numerical simulations conducted on two realistic distribution grids of different size with insufficient real-time measurements, the proposed procedure showcases superior performance compared to existing state forecasting approaches and those relying on inferred pseudo-measurementsFunding for open access charge: Universidad de Málaga/CBU

    Overestimation of Proteome Provides Insights into Transposable Element Landscape in Podosphaera xanthii, Causal Agent of Cucurbit Powdery Mildew Disease.

    Cucurbit powdery mildew, caused by Podosphaera xanthii, is one of the most destructive plant diseases of cucurbit crops worldwide. To date, there are discrepancies in the number of genes in the available genomic resources of the pathogen. We previously reported a predicted gene set of 16,030 in the P. xanthii isolate 2086, which was higher than that commonly described in other obligate biotrophic ascomycetes. The evaluation of the resulting proteome revealed approximately 7,000 consistent proteins and a surprising number of 8,940 unknown proteins. The study of this “dark” proteome showed that it actually originated from divergent transposable elements (TEs). For its part, the P. xanthii – Cucumis melo dual RNA-seq analysis showed a significant activity of some of these TEs during infection. Refining genome annotation taking into consideration repetitive elements could be critical for future metabolic and evolutionary studies aimed at understanding pathogen-host interactions
