Comparative analysis of Dark Triad traits in relation to performance and self-reported emotional intelligence
Interest in the Dark Triad (DT) traits - Machiavellianism, narcissism, and psychopathy - and their association with maladaptive behaviors has surged in recent years. Research has focused on identifying protective factors such as Emotional Intelligence (EI), but the literature has yielded mixed results regarding this relationship. Our study seeks to explore this relationship from two distinct perspectives of EI: self-report and performance-based measures. To achieve this aim, 222 participants (Mage = 22.01, SD = 4.54, ages 19–60) completed the Trait Meta Mood Scale (TMMS), a self-report measure, and the Mayer Salovey Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test (MSCEIT), a performance-based assessment, to evaluate EI, and the Short Dark Triad (SD-3) was used to evaluate DT traits. Our findings revealed a significant negative correlation between the traits of psychopathy and narcissism and EI scores when using the MSCEIT. However, when utilizing the TMMS, we only identified a positive and significant association between narcissism and EI. These findings underscore the importance of considering the type of EI measurement when examining this relationship. Moreover, we identified sex differences in the study variables and found that sex plays a moderating role in the studied relationship. Financial literacy and environmental sustainability in SMEs: process innovation as an association mechanism
Despite receiving little attention in academia, understanding the factors that facilitate SMEs in becoming more environmentally responsible is a crucial challenge in today’s world. This article analyses the influence of CEOs’ financial literacy on environmental sustainability in an SME environment. Based on a random sample of 318 Spanish SMEs, our results show that CEOs’ financial literacy is an important driver of environmental sustainability. Moreover, this relationship emerges entirely through process innovation. Thus, CEOs who are financially literate are more engaged in process innovations, which facilitates them to embrace more environmentally sustainable practices. Etiology of tricuspid regurgitation and mortality: a multicenter cohort study
Background Significant tricuspid regurgitation (TR) encompasses a wide range of etiologies, complicating a comprehensive understanding of disease progression and prognostic factors. This study aimed to assess mortality associated with significant TR, focusing on the role of valvular disease etiology and other predictive factors.
Methods This is a retrospective, multicenter, cohort observational study, including all consecutive patients with moderate-to-severe or greater TR. The patients were classified into five etiological groups: organic TR, TR secondary to left valvu-lopathy, TR secondary to left or right ventricular dysfunction, TR secondary to pulmonary hypertension, and atrial TR. The long-term mortality was assessed (median follow-up: 39.8 months).
Results 757 patients were included. The overall mortality incidence rate was 162.5 deaths per 1000 patient-years. Compared to atrial TR, all other etiologies presented a higher mortality risk: organic TR adjusted hazard ratio (aHR) = 2.344 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.138–4.829), left valvulopathy-related TR aHR = 1.901 (95% CI: 1.011–3.574), ventricular dysfunction-related TR aHR = 3.683 (95% CI: 1.627–8.338), and pulmonary hypertension-related TR aHR = 2.446 (95% CI: 1.215–4.927). In addition to known factors, male sex was associated with a higher mortality risk (aHR = 1.608, 1.175–2.201),
while beta-blocker use was linked to a lower risk (aHR = 0.674, 0.502–0.904).
Conclusions In a large cohort of patients with significant TR, and after adjusting for clinical and echocardiographic variables, all etiological groups exhibited a higher mortality risk compared to atrial TR. Additionally, male patients with TR

LGBTQ + Representation in American Fiction Series: Analysis of Archetypes in Queer Characters on the Streaming Platform Max
In today’s television landscape, TV series increasingly respond to social changes and demands such as queer representation. As a result, LGBTQ + representation has become a focal point for audiovisual industry professionals and scholars. This research examines the presence and portrayal of LGBTQ + characters in American fiction series available on Max’s VoD (Video on Demand) catalog in Spain. Employing a quantitative methodology, a content analysis is carried out to determine the characteristics of queer characters and their alignment with archetypes based on the narrative contexts of their scenes. Findings show that 46% of the TV series in the sample feature LGBTQ + characters. The majority of characters are cisgender (81%) with a homosexual orientation (37%). However, trans and non-binary characters are represented at a significant rate relative to their historically limited presence in TV series. The study identifies three prevalent archetypes: the regular guy (21%), the outlaw (18%), and the lover (17%). However, no clear pattern arises linking gender identity and sexual and emotional orientation with a particular archetype. In conclusion, while this research reveals a positive trend in the inclusion of the LGTBIQ + community on the Max streaming platform, there remain some weaknesses regarding some gender identities and sexual orientations, especially in older characters. This research contributes to Queer TV Studies from the Archetypes Theory perspective to examine queer representation in streaming services, providing original and novel findings to this field of study.Funding for open access charge: Universidad de Málaga / CBU

gestión empresarial. En esta tesitura, se debe tener en cuenta que la protección de datos y el
Derecho de la competencia, entre otros ámbitos del ordenamiento jurídico se ven especialmente
implicados a la hora de establecer ciertos límites al uso de los datos. El Reglamento (UE)
2022/868, de 30 de mayo de 2022 relativo a la gobernanza europea de datos (RGD)1 crea un
mercado único de datos, donde trata de establecer régimen jurídico definido de un nuevo
modelo de negocio referente a la intermediación de datos, donde dicho intercambio se realice
a través de la prestación de servicios de intermediación de datos.
En relación con los procedimientos de intermediación de datos, los mercados financieros, tanto
el mercado asegurador como el mercado de crédito, presentan condiciones propias en cuanto
al uso y cesión de datos, en tanto que ese intercambio de datos resulta esencial para la solvencia
de la actividad aseguradora y crediticia. El objetivo de este trabajo es pues valorar y
esclarecer los límites y consecuencias de lo preceptuado en la normativa que afecta a estos
mercados financieros dentro del marco del derecho de la competencia y las necesidades de
estos complejos mercados
Concerted transport and phosphorylation of diacylglycerol at ER–PM contact sites regulate phospholipid dynamics during stress.
A universal response of plants to environmental stresses is the activation of plasma membrane (PM) phospholipase C, which hydrolyzes phosphoinositides to produce soluble inositol phosphate and diacylglycerol (DAG). Because of their conical shape, DAG amounts have to be tightly regulated or they can destabilize membranes. We previously showed that upon stress, Synaptotagmin1 (SYT1) transports DAG from the PM to the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) at ER–PM Contact Sites (CS). Here, we addressed the fate of the incoming DAG in the ER. We show that diacylglycerol kinases (DGKs) DGK1 and DGK2 form a module with SYT1 functionally coupling DAG transport and phosphorylation at ER–PM CS. Although SYT1 and DGK1/DGK2 do not show exclusive ER–PM CS localization, their interaction occurs specifically at ER–PM CS and the removal of ER–PM CS abolishes the interaction. Lipidomic analysis of a dgk1dgk2 double mutant supports that DGK1 and DGK2 phosphorylate DAG at the ER and transcriptomic and phenotypic analyses indicate that SYT1 and DGK1/DGK2 are functionally related. Taken together, our results highlight a mechanism at ER–PM CS that coordinates the transfer of DAG from the PM to the ER by SYT1 upon stress and the concomitant phosphorylation of DAG by DGK1 and DGK2 at the ER. Impact of Prematurity and Neonatal Complications on the Development of Dyslexia
Prematurity has been linked to an increased risk of neurodevelopmental disorders, including dyslexia, due to neonatal complications that can impact brain maturation, such as intraventricular haemorrhage, periventricular leukomalacia and respiratory distress syndrome. This study examines the relationship between prematurity, neonatal conditions and dyslexia, using a sample of 120 participants divided into four groups: preterm children with dyslexia (G-PREDIX), preterm children without dyslexia (G-PREMA), full-term children with dyslexia (G-DISLX) and full-term children without dyslexia (G-NODISLX). Key neonatal variables such as gestational age, birth weight, APGAR scores, neonatal complications and NICU admission were analysed in relation to reading performance, assessed through standardized reading tests. Using multiple linear regression models, the study explored whether these early-life factors predict reading difficulties and dyslexia risk. The results indicate that neonatal complications and prematurity alone do not significantly predict dyslexia diagnosis, but a negative trend was observed between intraventricular haemorrhage and periventricular leukomalacia and reading comprehension and word decoding performance. These findings suggest that prematurity, in the absence of other risk factors, does not necessarily result in dyslexia, but when combined with specific neonatal conditions, it may increase the severity of reading difficulties. These results emphasize the importance of early assessment and targeted intervention programs to support the reading development of at-risk preterm children, particularly those with a history of neonatal complications.Funding for open access charge: Universidad de Málaga / CBU
Comunidades bentónico-demersales y la extracción de recursos naturales en el LIC "volcanes de fango del golfo de Cádiz"
El golfo de Cádiz (GdC) representa una zona de gran complejidad geológica e hidrológica debido a su localización geográfica entre los márgenes continentales europeo y africano, y por ser la zona de confluencia entre las aguas procedentes del mar Mediterráneo y el océano Atlántico. La geomorfología de su fondo marino es muy heterogénea como consecuencia de la actividad de convergencia de las placas tectónicas euroasiática y africana, promoviendo la formación de diversas estructuras de expulsión de fluidos ricos en gases e hidrocarburos como son los volcanes de fango, los complejos diapiro-volcán de fango, las dorsales diapíricas, entre otras. Además, la evolución morfosedimentaria del GdC ha conformado una fisiografía irregular que está relacionada con las corrientes marinas que en ella confluyen (agua de salida del Mediterráneo y agua de entrada del Atlántico). Esta particularidad favorece la presencia de especies y hábitats batiales característicos del mar Mediterráneo y del océano Atlántico norte. La parte más somera de la zona de estudio del LIC “Volcanes de fango del golfo de Cádiz”, conocida como “Campo Somero de Expulsión de Fluidos” (SFFE), se caracteriza por presentar una influencia importante de una de las ramas de salida del agua mediterránea, contribuyendo de forma significativa en el transporte de sedimentos, la erosión y la sedimentación en el fondo marino e impulsando la presencia de diferentes tipos de sustrato, lo que se traduce en una alta diversidad de hábitats y comunidades bentónico-demersales. Existía escasa información sobre la biodiversidad en los fondos del SFFE del LIC y de la presencia de hábitats vulnerables en aguas profundas.Por ello, se han estudiado las comunidades bentónico-demersales presentes en el SFFE en relación a su composición faunística y estructura en los diferentes volcanes de fango y en sus zonas adyacentes, combinando diferentes técnicas de muestreo tradicionales junto con el uso de vehículos submarinos para la adquisición de imágenes submarinas
Instagram as a Tool to Improve Human Histology Learning in Medical Education: Descriptive Study.
Student development is currently taking place in an environment governed by new technologies and social media. Some platforms, such as Instagram or X have been incorporated as additional tools for teaching and learning processes in higher education, especially in the framework of image-based applied disciplines, including radiology and pathology. Nevertheless, the role of social media in the teaching of core subjects such as histology has hardly been studied, and there are very few reports on this issue. Here, we investigate the impact of implementing social media on the ability to learn human histology. A set of voluntary e-learning activities was shared on Instagram as a complement to face-to-face teaching. The proposal included questionnaires based on multiple-choice questions, descriptions of histological images, and schematic diagrams about the subject content. These activities were posted on an Instagram account only accessible by second-year medical students from the University of Malaga. In addition, students could share their own images taken during the laboratory practice and interact with their peers. Of the students enrolled in Human Histology 2, 85.6% agreed to participate in the platform. Most of the students valued the initiative positively and considered it an adequate instrument to improve their final marks. Specifically, 68.5% of the student body regarded the multiple-choice questions and image-based questions as the most useful activities. Interestingly, there were statistically significant differences between the marks on the final exam (without considering other evaluation activities) for students who participated in the activity compared with those who did not or barely participated in the activity. There were no significant differences by degree of participation between the more active groups. Finally, social media may be considered a useful, easy, and accessible tool to improve the learning of human histology in medical degrees.Plan Propio de IBIMA-Plataforma Bionand 202
Semi-continuous flow mechanochemistry as a tool for the valorization of spent coffee grounds for biorefinery
Spent coffee grounds (SCG) are a by-product of the coffee industry, with its production steadily increasing. In this study, a sequential biorefinery process for the valorization of SCG was investigated, aiming to produce biodiesel, 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) and activated carbon as products of significant industrial interest. In all these processes, conventional and mechanochemical-assisted methodologies were evaluated aiming at process intensification. Firstly, lipids were extracted from SCG and subsequently transformed into biodiesel using calcium diglyceroxide (CaDG) as heterogeneous catalyst, achieving a yield of 98.4 %. Afterwards, autohydrolysis of extracted SCG has allowed the recovery of hemicellulosic liquors, containing 22 % sugars in solution in the form of monomers (mainly C6) and oligomers. These sugar solutions were subjected to dehydration in a water, using CaCl2 and Al2O3, resulting in a maximum 5-HMF yield of 65 %. Finally, the residue obtained after these sequential processes, primarily composed of cellulose and lignin, underwent pyrolysis with KOH as an activating agent, producing activated carbon with a maximum surface area of 1359 m2/g. This cascade biorefinery approach demonstrates a sustainable pathway for SCG utilisation by minimizing waste and maximizing the production of valuable products.Funding for open access charge: Universidad de Málaga / CBU
