Emotional intelligence, family, and school factors associated with cyberbullying roles in adolescence
https://openpolicyfinder.jisc.ac.uk/id/publication/15400This research explored the relationship between family and school-based relational factors, emotional intelligence facets, and cyberbullying roles in a sample of 2,883 adolescents (aged 12–18; M = 14.11, SD = 1.42). Findings from logistic regression revealed shared factors associated with cybervictims, cyberbullies, and cyberbully-victims, including lower use of emotion, higher family conflict, and reduced teacher support. Lower emotion regulation and weaker family cohesion were linked to cyberbully-victim and cyberbully roles, while self-emotion appraisal was relevant for cyberbullies, and other-emotion appraisal was significant for cybervictims. Furthermore, student support was particularly significant for cybervictims. These results underscore the importance of reducing family conflict, enhancing teacher support, and promoting emotional intelligence as preventive measures against cyberbullying. Implications for family and school-based interventions are discussed.
La primera publicación, titulada “Exploring Digital Competencies: Validation and Reliability of an Instrument for the Educational Community and for all Educational Stages”, ha sido difundida en la revista Technology, Knowledge and Learning.
El segundo estudio, titulado “Exploring the educational digital landscape in the Dominican Republic: a comparative study of competencies in diferent stages and socio‑digital environments”, fue publicado en la revista Journal of Computers in Education.El tercer estudio, bajo el título "Digital Transformation in the educational community of the Dominican Republic: Exploring the role of sociodemographic environments and Gender in Digital Competence”, fue publicado en la revista IEEE Revista Iberoamericana de Tecnologias del Aprendizaje
Effects of the use of feedback in psychotherapy: Two case studies.
The research shows that the effectiveness in psychotherapy is due to a series of extra-therapeutic variables, among which the feedback provided in the therapeutic session stands out (APA, 2013; Wampold & Imel, 2015). The way in which outcomes are evaluated in psychotherapy on which feedback is given to the patient is called Routine Outcome Monitoring, which consists of the periodic inter-session evaluation of treatment progress. To evaluate the patient's progress throughout treatment, the Clinical Outcomes in Routine Evaluation-Outcome Measure (CORE; Evans et al., 2002) stands out, although there are few studies that have tested the effectiveness of its use. The objective of this work is to analyze the impact of the feedback that the therapist provides to the patient on their progress, based on the use of the CORE, in routine clinical practice. The sample was made up of two participants who were treated in private clinical practice, aged between 50 and 60 years, who presented anxiety-depressive problems of varying severity without other diagnoses. The instruments used were the CORE18 and CORE34 to evaluate the inter-session progress of the patients, the first composed of two parallel forms that alternate in their application, and the SCL-90-R (Derogatis, 1977) to evaluate clinical symptoms. The session-by-session CORE18 scores, and the CORE34 scores obtained every three months, were used to monitor progress and provide feedback to the patient about the evolution of treatment. Analysis of treatment effects was carried out using a single-case design, and statistical analyses were used to quantify the magnitude of the treatment effect, the reliability of the change, and its clinical significance (Jacobson & Truax, 1991). The results allow us to conclude that the CORE questionnaire appears to be an effective tool for systematic monitoring of results, which has in turn proven useful for carrying out an effective intervention in patients with anxiety-depressive problems.B3-2023-23-Universidad de Málag
Robust analysis of spatio-temporal inequality with Inverse entropy
This study introduces Inverse entropy, a novel metric for spatio-temporal inequality that extends traditional measures such as Shannon entropy and the Gini coefficient. Unlike dispersion-based indices, it focuses on temporal concentration and employs a decomposition framework to disentangle structural, transversal, and allocative components, offering deeper insights into inequality dynamics. Monte Carlo simulations validate its robustness across skewed and noisy distributions, demonstrating superior sensitivity, monotonicity, and scalability compared to traditional inequality and concentration measures. An empirical analysis of 106 Spanish tourism destinations (2005–2019) reveals significant temporal disparities, with transversal components emerging as key drivers of seasonal demand variability. The results provide actionable insights for policymakers, addressing structural dependencies and allocative inefficiencies to optimise resource allocation. The computational implementation ensures reproducibility using R, enabling large-scale analyses. Beyond tourism, Inverse entropy is applicable to energy demand, transportation, and retail forecasting.Funding for open access charge: Universidad de Málaga / CBU
Learning to shape beams: using a neural network to control a beamforming antenna
The field of reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) has gained significant traction in recent years in the wireless communications domain, owing to the ability to dynamically reconfigure surfaces to change their electromagnetic radiance patterns in real-time. In this work, we propose utilizing a novel deep learning model that innovatively employs only the parameters of each signal or beam as input, eliminating the need for the entire one-dimensional signal or its diffusion map (two-dimensional information). This approach enhances efficiency and reduces the overall complexity of the model, drastically reducing network size and enabling its implementation on low-cost devices. Furthermore, to enhance training effectiveness, the learning model attempts to estimate the discrete cosine transform applied to the output matrix rather than the raw matrix, significantly improving the achieved accuracy. This scheme is validated on a 1-bit programmable metasurface of size 10
10, achieving an accuracy close to 95% using a K-fold methodology with K=10
I'm Sexi and I know it!
Sunk in the Atlantic— Going concern and franchise value in [out] EU bank resolution

OTRI-UMA 8.06/5.09.5414Stubbornly, the current EU bank resolution regime bans both the application of the going concern and the franchise value criteria to appraise the affected credit institutions. Such prohibition defies not only the ethos of bank resolution but also business valuation, whether it is in an insolvency scenario or not. This article aims to explain where this feature roots, how it distorts the entire EU resolution regime, and the disturbing reasons that endorse the legislative framework now in force. Some suggestions for reform will be posed in the context of the European Banking Union’s (EBU) projected reform to address this untenable stay. As suggested by the title —also for the sake of usefulness— a kind of comparison with the US regime will also be made in some passages of the essay, although its in-depth analysis is by no means intended.
We do not directly challenge the bail-in metarule ―certainly ancient, and well-known―, but we delve into the ‘who/whom question’, which means to say who bails-out whom in bank resolution. The effort to break the so-called fatal link between banks and sovereigns could give way to a tighter chain between banks and financial markets and the rebound toward the fiscal channel. Moreover, can the connection between money and taxes be broken in our fiat, legal tender currency universe? We do not deal here with related topics like the loss-absorbing and liquidity regulatory requirements, at least directly. Our purpose is to focus on the valuation criteria for entities in resolution as a viewpoint to analyze the EU bank resolution regime
Innovation and Competitiveness in the Territorial Brand of the Algarve: A Comparative Analysis of Its Social Media Communication and Web Content
In an increasingly competitive global tourism context, territorial branding plays a key role in enhancing the visibility, identity, and resilience of regions. This study focuses on the Algarve, a region in southern Portugal, and investigates how innovation and competitiveness are reflected in its digital communication strategy. Using a mixedmethods approach, this research combines the quantitative analysis of 689 social media posts published in 2024 on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube with the qualitative content analysis of 38 documents and the official website of Algarve. The findings reveal a coherent and visually appealing brand narrative centred on the coastal identity of the Algarve, complemented by content related to nature, gastronomy, and cultural heritage. Instagram stands out as the most engaging platform, particularly when posts adopt a participatory tone, emotional storytelling, and references to specific locations. However, only 6.4% of the content surpassed the 1% engagement threshold, suggesting limited audience connection. The website presents a broader thematic range but under-represents intangible heritage and local products. The Algarve brand successfully projects an aspirational image
based on landscape and leisure but would benefit from greater content diversification, enhanced stakeholder integration, and expanded narrative strategies to strengthen digital engagement and destination competitiveness
