Background: Problematic Internet Use (PIU) has become a significant concern among adolescents. While previous studies have examined individual predictors of PIU, the role of teachers' emotionally intelligent behaviors (TEIB) in mitigating PIU remains unexplored. Objective: This research aims to examine the underlying mechanisms in the link between TEIB and PIU through a serial mediation model involving teacher-student relationships (TSR) and stress in two independent studies. Methods: Two studies with Spanish adolescents were conducted: a cross-sectional study (N = 1,966) and a 9-month prospective study (N = 517). TEIB, TSR, stress symptoms (Study 1), perceived stress (Study 2), and PIU were assessed. Results: In both studies, TEIB was positively associated with TSR and negatively associated with stress and PIU. The serial mediation path was significant: TEIB predicted higher TSR, which in turn was linked to lower stress levels, thereby reducing PIU. In Study 1, both simple and serial mediation effects were significant, whereas in Study 2, only the serial mediation effect was supported. Conclusion: These findings highlight the importance of teachers' emotionally intelligent behaviors in reducing students’ PIU. Schools should consider implementing emotional skills training programs for teachers to foster supportive teacher-student relationships and promote healthier online behaviors among adolescents. Finally, school-based recommendations for teachers to prevent adolescents from PIU are suggested in the light of our findings. This work was part of the R+D+i project PID2020-117006RB-I00, funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033/ and Group CTS-1048G-FEDER (Junta de Andalucía). Breast, colon, and ovarian cancers are among the most prevalent malignancies worldwide, with distinct clinical features. This study aims to identify key proteins as common biomark-ers for breast, colon, and ovarian cancer through protein analysis, molecular mechanisms, and patient sample validation. Data mining from curated databases identified 483 proteins for breast cancer, 521 for colon cancer, and 223 for ovarian cancer. Interaction network analysis revealed shared clusters involved in cancer progression, DNA repair, and cell proliferation. A core set of 27 proteins was found to be common across all three cancer types, participating in key biological processes such as DNA damage response, cell prolif-eration, and apoptosis. Notably, these proteins are implicated in KEGG pathways linked to multiple cancers. Differential gene expression analysis revealed significant alterations in the expressions of MSH2 and KIT across the three cancers, suggesting their potential as common biomarkers. The high expression of these proteins was associated with better survival outcomes, highlighting their potential as common biomarkers for breast, colon, and ovarian cancers. The in-silico methodology integrated various bioinformatic tools—including cluster identification, gene expression profiling, protein network visualization, and biomarker prediction—enhancing the understanding of shared molecular mechanisms and potential therapeutic targets

Direct Single-Dose Drug-Provocation Test Is Safe for Delabelling Penicillin Low-Risk Reactions in Adults

Background: Penicillins (PENs) are the most frequent drug-allergic reactions trigger. However, diagnostic work-up is complex and time-consuming: it requires skin testing (ST) and drug-provocation test (DPT), needing faster delabelling strategies. Although direct DPT without previous STs has shown to be safe, most of the studies are performed in children or in North American, Asian, or Oceanian adults, with few studies in the European adult population. We explored its safety in European adult patients with low-risk PEN allergy history and, additionally, analysed ST role and T-cell involvement by lymphocyte trans- formation test (LTT). Methods: We prospectively evaluated > 16 years of PEN-allergic labelled patients referred to Málaga Regional University Hospital during 2023. They reported non-immediate reactions without alarm signs and unknown reactions. Direct-single-dose DPT was performed in all patients. If positive, ST and LTT were carried out after reaction resolution. Results: We included 269 patients with the culprits being an unidentified PEN (36%), amoxicillin (AX) (32%), and AX-clavulanic acid (AX- CLV) (31%); and the symptoms maculopapular exanthema (MPE) (34%) and unknown reaction during childhood (23%). Only 16 (5.9%) had positive DPT, being 56% for AX and 44% for AX- CLV, 81% developing MPE, none severe. Most DPT-reacting patients reported cutaneous non-immediate reactions in the index reaction, and only one had an unknown childhood reaction. The mean day interval between drug administration and symptom development was lower (p = 0.002) in positive DPT than in the index reaction (2 vs 5 days). Moreover, ST was positive in only 19% and LTTs in 86.7% of positive DPT patients. Conclusions: Direct-single-dose DPT is safe for delabelling PEN allergy in non-immediate reactions without alarm signs and unknown reactions. ST had a poor diagnostic value and LTT had a high one, confirming a T-cell involvement. This study has been supported by the Institute of Health “Carlos III” of the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (grants cofounded by European Regional Development Fund) (PI21/00329); and through its programme of Redes de Investigacion Cooperativa Orientadas al Resultado en Salud (RICORS): Enfermedades Inflamatorias (RD21/0002/0008).

    No full text

Catalytic transfer hydrogenation of furfural using mechanically activated MgO as catalyst

    No full text
Several MgO materials have been prepared throughout wet flow semi-continuous mechanochemical treatment of the Mg(OH)2 precursors and their subsequent calcination. This mechanochemical treatment of the precursors has shown a clear influence on the textural properties and the amount and strength of basic sites of the MgO catalysts after its calcination, obtaining higher values than that observed in a MgO sample synthesized without mechanochemical treatment. An indepth investigation was conducted on the effects of the mechanochemical treatment on the catalytic performance in the catalytic transfer hydrogenation of furfural, and a positive effect on the activity of the catalysts was found after short mechanochemical treatment times. The highest conversion values at shorter reaction times were obtained after a mechanochemical treatment of 15 min, reaching a furfuryl alcohol yield of 79% after 2 h of reaction at 90 °C, using 2-propanol as both hydrogen donor and solvent. This data notably improves that obtained for the untreated material, which only reaches a conversion of 48% under the same experimental conditions. The stability of the material in the reaction media as well as their reusability were also investigated, and the interaction nature of 2-propanol with the MgO surface has been elucidated by attenuated total reflection spectroscopy and 2-propanol adsorption studies.Funding for open access charge: Universidad de Málag

Application of generative artificial intelligence to occupational therapy

    Get PDF

Modeling Flapping Wing Forward Flight for Bio-Inspired Unmanned Aerial Vehicles
