Bibliography of Michel Ferlus
The list herein is an extensive bibliography of the publications of Michel Ferlus (1935-2024), including 118 publications stretching five decades from 1970 to 2020. His research topics include Mon-Khmer historical phonology (in particular Khmu, Thavung, Vietic, Khmer, Mon), the history of writing systems of Indian origin in Southeast Asia, as well as Old Chinese phonology. Ferlus also addressed topics at the intersection of historical linguistics, history and archaeology, such as ethnonymy and the history of peoples and techniques. This bibliography was prepared on the basis of an ‘autobibliography’ prepared by Ferlus, which he shared with colleagues and updated over the years. Links to the HAL archive are provided not only for unpublished documents (such as conference handouts) but also for some journal articles for which he prepared corrected and updated versions
Iu Mien Tone Change in Real Time: A Restudy Of L-Thongkum (1988)
This study investigates tone changes in Iu Mien, a Hmong-Mien language with two complex contour tones: high rising-falling (T3) and low rising-falling (T4). L-Thongkum (1988) observed younger speakers producing rising variants of T3 and T4, which she attributed to Thai contact. This study replicates L-Thongkum’s study 34 years later to observe tone changes in real time and examine the potential role of peak delay, a phonetic bias resulting in a later f0 peak. 40 speakers (ages 12-84) produced T3 and T4 monosyllables in isolation and in a carrier phrase. f0 was modeled using Generalized Additive Mixed Modeling (GAMM). Results confirm incremental change toward rising variants of T3 and T4. Older speakers showed peak delay (with more of a rising contour) under conditions of shorter duration and preceding low tone. Critically, younger speakers produced peak-delayed, rising variants in all conditions, indicating generalization of the rising contour. While language contact may have initiated the changes, a phonetic bias toward peak delay generated the seeds of potential change. The change from rising-falling > rising aligns with apparent-time studies in other Asian languages, suggesting this may be a crosslinguistically unidirectional pathway
Effect of Inclusion of Fresh or dried black soldier fly larvae in Diets on Snakehead Fish's Growth Performance and Chemical Composition (<em>Channa sp.</em>)
In snakehead fish farming, feeding represents the largest portion (accounting for 50-60%) of production cost. Thus, finding an alternative natural feed that can be replaced as full or partial inclusion in snakehead fish commercial diets is urgently needed. This study was carried out to evaluate the effect of including fresh or dried black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) in diets on the growth performance and chemical composition of snakehead fish cultured in small-scale farms. Fingerlings of snakehead (5.15 ± 0.12 g) were distributed randomly into fifteen net cages (6 m^3^) at a density of 120 fish.net cage^-1^. Including five dietary treatments named: NT1 (100% commercial feed served as a control); NT2 (100% fresh BSFL); NT3 (100% dried BSFL); NT4 (50% fresh BSFL + 50% commercial feed); and NT5 (50% dried BSFL + 50% commercial feed). Each treatment was performed in triplicate. The results showed that the inclusion of fresh BSFL in diets for the snakehead fish did not affect the survival rate (82.22 - 85.56 %), improved feed conversion ratio, increased live weight (70.9 – 103.3 g) and daily weight gain (1.09 – 1.64 g.day^-1^), and fish’s yield (1.16 – 1.73 kg.m^-2^); and did not affect the chemical composition of the fish. These findings suggest that farmers should feed snakehead fish with commercial feed plus fresh black soldier fly larvae to maintain good condition factor and enhance fish growth performance and production

Financial Performance Evaluation of Leading Fisheries Enterprises Based on Entropy-Weighted TOPSIS Method
Fishery is a strategic and fundamental core industry in China. Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the central government has attached great importance to the fishery industry and has issued a series of policies to promote its revitalization and vigorous development. In the favorable policy environment, it is crucial for leading fisheries enterprises to pay attention to financial performance evaluation and strive to improve their own operational efficiency. In this study, we selected seven leading fisheries enterprises as research subjects and used the entropy-weighted TOPSIS method to construct a financial performance evaluation system from four dimensions: debt-paying ability, operational capability, profitability, and development potential. We then conducted performance evaluations on the seven sample companies. The research findings indicate that enterprises should focus on their development capabilities to improve their potential for sustained development, enhance the operational efficiency of fisheries enterprises, and promote their continuous and healthy growth
Analysis of bacterial community of <em>Labidochromis caeruleus</em> reared in RAS with various feeds
The electric yellow cichlid (Labidochromis caeruleus), renowned for its exceptional ornamental value, enjoys widespread popularity among aquarium enthusiasts and holds significant economic value in the market. This study employed high-throughput sequencing technology to analyze the microorganisms in the circulating water of the electric yellow cichlid cultivated with six different types of feeds. Statistical results showed that the compound feed group exhibited the highest specific growth and mass gain rates. In contrast, the water flea and brine shrimp groups showed lower rankings with significant differences. 51,084 to 64,626 effective sequences were obtained and clustered into 127 to 848 operational taxonomic units (OTUs). The research findings indicate a remarkable bacterial diversity in the breeding environment of electric yellow cichlids with higher levels in the water flea and brine shrimp groups, and the lowest level in the compound feed group; the dominant bacterial phyla in all six experimental groups include Proteobacteria, Actinobacteria, Parcubacteria, and Cyanobacteria; Comparative analysis using the COGs database revealed significant differences (P<0.05) in the metabolic pathways of 24 functional microbial genes among the experimental groups
Behavioral characteristics and transcriptome analysis of <em>Mizuhopecten yessoensis</em> in response to <em>Neptunea arthritica cumingii</em> predation during laboratory bottom-sowing culture
In this study, we investigated the effects of predation by the whelk Neptunea arthritica cumingii on the culture and survival of scallops (Mizuhopecten yessoensis) during bottom culture. The behavioral characteristics of three sizes (small, medium, and large) of scallops were assessed in response to exposure to N. cumingii. We also measured the activities of superoxide dismutase, catalase, arginine kinase, and octopine dehydrogenase in the gill, adductor muscle, and mantle tissues of scallops before and after exposure to predation. We found that scallops escaped from N. cumingii predation by continuous shell closure or movement. The shell closure force increased with the scallop size, and scallops of the same size that were stimulated by the presence of N. cumingii closed their shells more frequently than control scallops. The shell closure ability of scallops of all sizes decreased as the duration of the experiment continued. The enzyme activities in the three scallop tissues changed significantly after continuous stimulation, and the trend was particularly obvious for the enzyme activities in the adductor muscles of medium-sized scallops. Transcriptome analysis of the adductor muscles from medium-sized scallops detected 405 differentially expressed genes (172 upregulated and 233 downregulated), where the expression levels of RYK, APC, BAMBI, WNT16, CACYBP, and RUVBL1 changed after stimulation by N. cumingii. The sequencing results were verified by quantitative real-time PCR. We hypothesize these genes may be related to muscle movement and regulation in M. yessoensis after stimulation
Swordtail (<em>Xiphophorous helleri</em>) growth promoting activity and antibacterial property of pineapple (<em>Ananas comosus</em>) peel oil
The use of phytogenics that are low-cost and highly available has the potential to address some environmental, social, and economic issues in fish culture. The present study was conducted to evaluate the effects of the dietary application of pineapple (Ananas comosus) peel oil (PPO) on the growth performance of Swordtail (Xiphophorous helleri) and the antibacterial effect against pathogenic bacteria. PPO was incorporated in the diet of Swordtail (initial average weight ± SD of 0.12±0.07g and average length± SD of1.15±0.25 cm) to analyze the effect on growth performance. Two triplicate groups (each tank stocked with 15 fish) were fed with control and experimental diet for 10 weeks. The results showed significantly enhanced growth performance of fish fed with an experimental diet. The average weight gain (282.0±35.0%), relative growth rate (2.82±0.35), specific growth rate (1.92±0.12 %day-1), and condition factor (0.42±0.02%) were all higher, and feed conversion ratio (0.0219 ±0.040) is lower in fish fed the experimental diet. The carbohydrate content (60.05±0.050 %) in the control feed was higher (p≤0.05), whereas moisture (11.35±0.11 %) and ash (13.77±0.03%) contents were higher (p≤0.05) in experimental feed. The disc-diffusion method was used to test the antibacterial activity of the crude PPO against A. hydrophila and Pseudomonas spp. The inhibition zones were 2.37±0.13 51 cm and 2.06±0.08 cm, respectively. Conclusively, the present study recommends using PPO, which has a potential antibacterial effect against bacterial pathogens, as a potential feed additive to improve the growth performance of swordtail
Notes on the Phuan Lects Spoken in Xiengkhouang, Thathom, and Borikhane (Laos)
This study on Phuan first introduces the areas of Laos investigated in Xiengkhouang, Xaysômboun, and Bolikhamxay provinces. A historical account of Xiengkhouang, regarded as the Phuan homeland, is provided. The presentation of the linguistic literature discusses the research on Phuan in Thailand and the lesser-known research on Phuan in Laos. The fifteen tone diagrams for Phuan of this study, which are based on recordings made in thirteen locations, support a tone pattern with a 1-234 split in A and C columns of Gedney’s tone diagram, a 123-4 split in B, DL, and DS columns, and a B-DL quasi-coalescence. Two tone diagrams, for Tai Dam and Tai Daeng lects of Muong Kham (Xiengkhouang), are given for comparison. Other issues concerning the Phuan lects considered include: the reflex /-ɤː/ of Proto-Tai *əï, *eï/ɛï, *oï; diphthongs /iə/, /ɯə/, /uə/; reflexes of DL syllables *CV:k; the initial consonant /h-/ instead of /kh-/; and specific lexical items
