Enterobacter aerogenes: an Emerging Pathogen for Enteritis in Farmed Channel Catfish Ictalurus punctatus
Enteritis has caused significant economic losses in farmed channel catfish Ictalurus punctatus. Yet information is limited on Enterobacter aerogenes as a potential causal agent for enteritis in channel catfish. In this study, a virulent strain, temporarily named HT2, was isolated from diseased channel catfish suffering from enteritis, identified phenotypically and molecularly as E. aerogenes. A phylogenetic tree was constructed to examine isolate HT2 and compare it to other known isolates. In addition, isolate HT2 is apparently susceptible to aminoglycosides and quinolones, drugs for veterinary use in aquaculture as seen when screened against a range of common antibiotics. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of E. aerogenes as a pathogen causing enteritis in farmed channel catfish
Phonological Sketch of Helong, an Austronesian Language of Timor
Helong is an Austronesian language spoken in Indonesia with three dialects: Pulau, Bolok and Funai. Helong Pulau has 17 possible vowel sequences and a simple phoneme inventory of fourteen consonants and five vowels. The glottal stop /ʔ/ has a limited distribution, primarily occuring in word-final codas. Several morphophonemic changes, including metathesis, indicate that /ʔ/ is like other consonants. There is also a morphophonological process where the nominalizing prefix /h-/, a voiceless glottal fricative, causes a number of consonants to assimilate to the voiceless phonation of the preceding consonant, seen in muki ‘haveV’ → /hm/ [m̥] m̥uki ‘wealthN’, and spirantization as seen in kokon ‘sweepV’ → /hk/ [χ] χokon ‘broomN’. The /h-/ prefix has no assimilatory influence when it precedes voiced stops, as seen in ˈbutu ‘tieV’ → ˈhbutu ‘bundleN’, ˈdula ‘writeV’ → ˈhdulat ‘pictureN’
Khmuic Linguistic Bibliography with Selected Annotations
The Khmuic languages represent a branch in the north-central region of the Austroasiatic family. While there are several existing Khmuic bibliographies, namely, Smalley (1973), Proschan (1987), Preisig and Simana (n.d.), Renard (2015), and Lund University (2015), this paper seeks to combine, update and organize these materials into a more readily accessible online resource. A brief overview of Khmuic languages and their linguistic features is given. References are organized according to linguistic domain, with some annotations. An updated language index of a dozen Khmuic languages is also included
Epidemiological Survey of Grass Carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) Reovirus in South China, and Genetic Variations of VP6 gene
To study the molecular biology characteristics, phylogenetic relationship, and status quo of grass carp reovirus (GCRV) prevalent isolates, we conducted an epidemiological survey in South China from 2012 to 2016. We sampled 126 fish collected from five provinces. Eight strains of GCRV were isolated and examined in order to understand their genetic characteristics and evolution regularity. The results showed three genotypes of GCRV, of which. Genotype Ⅱ was found to be the prevalent strain in South China. SDS-PAGE electrophoresis further suggested that all viruses possess 11 segments of dsRNA, which have typical characteristics of GCRV. Based on amino acid sequence phylogenetic tree of VP6 gene, all eight isolates belonged to genotype Ⅱ and had significant variations compared to genotype Ⅰ. Analysis of amino acid sequence showed that these two genotypes of GCRV had no immunological cross-reactions. These results indicated that genotype Ⅱ GCRV is an extensive pandemic, and revealed new genetic diversity in China
