Dietary Vitamin B6 Requirement of Juvenile Grass Carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella)
We evaluated the effects of dietary vitamin B6 levels on growth, survival, and serum biochemical parameters in juvenile grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella). Fish were fed one of seven purified diets containing 0.12 (control), 1.16, 2.37, 4.82, 9.20, 17.51, or 36.52 mg/kg B6. We observed abnormal swimming behavior in some fish fed the control diet after 17 days. The survival rate (24.44±1.92%) was low in the control group. Supplementation with vitamin B6 resulted in significantly higher (P<0.05) weight gain, specific growth rate, final weight, and weight gain rate. Feed efficiency was significantly lower in the fish fed the control diet than the remaining groups (P<0.05). Dietary vitamin B6 levels had no significant effect on fish body composition or serum albumin and total protein content. Dietary vitamin B6 supplementation caused a decrease in serum triacylglycerol content and an increase in total cholesterol content, high density lipoprotein cholesterol content, and α-amylase activity levels (P<0.05). Broken-line regression analysis of SGR, HDL-C content, and α-AMY activity, showed that the optimum dietary vitamin B6 requirement for juvenile grass carp was 1.13, 3.73, 1.57 mg B6/kg, respectively
Diversity and Sustainability in Library Exhibits

The poster explains how the Library Exhibits Committee tackles the challenges of limited resources and staffing in order to successfully handle procedures, marketing, and collaborations among constituents. Examples of cultural, social, historical and international exhibit themes are showcased. In addition, the results of an in-house library exhibits survey are presented. The survey examined how librarians and staff bolster sustainability and diversity through collaboration on exhibit design and implementation
Biliteracy across Scripts: Implications for Language Development in Southeast Asia
Many minority language communities in Southeast Asia use the segment-based Latin alphabet. In order to provide ease of literacy acquisition, national governments may encourage or require the use of the partially segmental, partially syllable-oriented Brahmi-based national syllabet in minority literacy development. Evidence from research on biliteracy in other languages and scripts suggests that alphabetic reading skills provide a strong foundation for learning to read a syllabet once a threshold of linguistic competency has been reached. Use of the mother tongue for early literacy also supports successful learning through strong home-school relationships. This study suggests that secondary orthographies based on national or dominant scripts for school-based literacy may not support and possibly even inhibit literacy acquisition due to motivational sociolinguistic factors. Research to confirm these findings specifically in the Southeast Asian context is still needed

In Vitro Activation of Epinephelus Malabaricus Head-Kidney Leukocytes by Angelica Sinensis Polysaccharide
Phagocytic, respiratory burst, bactericidal, and proliferative activity stimulation of Epinephelus malabaricus head-kidney leukocytes by Angelica sinensis polysaccharide (ASP) were evaluated in vitro. Leukocytes were incubated for 2, 6, 12 and 24 h in the presence of 0, 10, 100 and 1000 μg/mlASP or 100 μg/ml lipopolysaccharide (LPS) before phagocytic and respiratory burst activity assay, and for 24 h with 0, 100, 1000, 10000 μg ASP/ml before bactericidal activity detection. Meanwhile, leukocytes were incubated for 24 and 48 h followed by proliferative activity evaluation. The results showed that ASP boosted leukocytes phagocytic, respiratory burst, bactericidal, and proliferative activity significantly in a dose-dependent manner. Leukocytes incubated with 100 μg/ml ASP exhibited the highest phagocytic and respiratory burst activity. Leukocytes incubated with 1000 μg/ml ASP showed the highest bactericidal activity, which was followed by leukocytes incubated with 100μg/ml ASP. Leukocyte proliferation was significantly enhanced with increasing concentration of ASP, and reached the highest value with 10000 μg/ml ASP. Compared with LPS in the same concentration (100 μg/ml), ASP exerted a stronger stimulating effect on respiratory burst but was weaker on proliferation in E. malabaricus leukocytes. These findings indicate that ASP prototype enhanced cellular immunity of E. malabaricus, and potentially contributed to the pursuit of environmentally friendly prophylactic measures to enhance the immunity of E. malabaricu
Effects of Biofloc on Plankton Abundance in the Water
This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of biofloc on the species and quantity of plankton in pond water. There were four treatments in the experiment: the control, no supplementation; treatment I, pond water supplemented with glucose; treatment II, pond water supplemented with both glucose and Bacillus subtilis; and treatment III, pond water supplemented with Bacillus subtilis only. Water quality, plankton, and biofloc formation were monitored every five days. Results showed that biofloc formation was enhanced by adding glucose to the pond water. The addition of glucose together with Bacillus subtilis shortened the formation time of mature bioflocs by about five days than the supplementation with glucose only. In ponds supplemented with glucose and those supplemented with glucose + bacillus, the ammonia nitrogen, and nitrite nitrogen content in the water column decreased, and the number of cyanobacteria and green algae were significantly inhibited, while the number of zooplankton such as Rotatoria increased during the experimental period
