Identification and mRNA Expression of Antioxidant Enzyme Genes in the Mud Crab (Scylla paramamosain) in Response to Acute Ammonia and Nitrite Exposure
Thioredoxin reductase (TrxR) is a conserved protein that is involved in protecting organisms against various oxidative stresses. In this study, a thioredoxin reductase gene was cloned from the mud crab Scylla paramamosain (SpTrxR). The full-length cDNA of SpTrxR is comprised of 2724 bp with a 1791 bp open reading frame that encodes a putative protein of 596 amino acids. The deduced amino acid sequence of SpTrxR contains the typical TrxR domain. Quantitative real-time PCR analysis revealed that the SpTrxR mRNA was distributed abundantly in mud crabs, while strong expression was observed mainly in the gills. The expression of antioxidant enzyme genes (SpTrxR, SpTrx, SpSOD, and SpCAT) was measured using quantitative real-time PCR after acute ammonia and nitrite exposure. The results show that antioxidant enzyme genes (SpTrxR, SpTrx, SpSOD, and SpCAT) were modulated by acute ammonia and nitrite exposure. These results suggest that antioxidant enzyme genes play an important role in protecting organisms against oxidative stres
Effects of Live Food enrichment on Yellowtail Amberjack Seriola lalandi dorsalis (Gill 1863) Larvae
Our study examined the effect of live food enrichment on the rearing performance of yellowtail amberjack Seriola lalandi dorsalis from day 3 posthatch (DPH) to 12 DPH. Three rotifer enriched treatments, 1) Nannochloropsis sp, 2) S.presso® (INVE Aquaculture) half dose (Sp1/2), and 3) S.presso® full dose (Sp1) were administered. Growth of yellowtail amberjack larvae was not significantly affected by these enrichments (P>0.05) but final survival rates were significantly affected (P0.05), but total polyunsaturated fatty acid content was significantly affected (P0.05). Results indicate that enriched live feed can significantly affect rearing performance of yellowtail amberjack larvae; S.presso full dose enrichment is suitable for their initial rearing stages
Temporal Expressions In Balinese: Focused On The Semantic Functions Of Temporal Adverbials
This paper focuses on temporal expressions in the Balinese language. The discussion of temporal expressions is based on theories of temporal semantic functions proposed by Haspelmath (1997) and Pan (2010). The results show that Balinese temporal expressions can be classified into four semantic functions, which can be further classified into several subcategories. The four semantic functions are (1) temporal locations, (2) temporal extent, (3) frequency, and (4) miscellaneous functions. The choice of temporal adverbial marking in Balinese is influenced by speech register. Another important point in Balinese temporal adverbial marking is the notion of definiteness. Definiteness in Balinese is not only marked on the linguistic unit of a particular temporal adverbial, but also on the marker itself, particularly for temporal adverbials, which indicates a situation as the reference time
