Effect of Ginseng Root (Araliaceae sp.) Extracts on Sperm Quality Parameters and Reproductive Performance in Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss)
In this study, ginseng root extract was manufactured and used as a food additive for 8 to 9-month old male rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). The extracts were added to the food in two different ratios, 1 g/kg and 2 g/kg. The control group was given a commercial feed with no additive. The fish ate the provided feed for 120 days ad libitum. Sperm samples were taken from fish every 30 days. We observed that the gonadosomatic index (GSI) in the experimental groups was higher than in the control group. Motility duration of groups 1 and 2 was 10 seconds more than the control group. Sperm density averages (SDA) were 7.74±0.61x109, 8.62±0.53 x109 and 11.27±0.78x109, respectively. All sperm samples taken from each experimental group were used for fertilization. Fertilization ratios of control and experimental groups were 65±10%, 84.9±5% and 90±6%, respectively. The hatching ratio was also very high in the extract added groups compared to the control group
Eyestalk Ablation, a Prerequisite for Crustacean Reproduction: A review
Reproduction in crustaceans is a process which demands critical study in order to help improve productivity in aquaculture. In recent years, many studies have been geared towards studying how eyestalk ablation affects the reproduction of crustaceans. This review highlights many of the various neuroendocrine groups found in the crustacean eyestalks, their importance, and their contribution to crustacean reproduction. This review also provides a description of the eyestalk, eyestalk ablation, and how it affects crustacean reproduction. Conclusions and perspectives have also been made to aid further studies

Librarians Need to Take-up the Writing Revolution
Presentation slidesThis presentation discusses why librarians are uniquely qualified to lead the writing-across-the-curriculum charge, which has been largely ignored by our schools, and cultivate better writing among our students. The first section charts the assessment of student writing since the 1980’s and shows how student writing has not improved and, in fact, along with critical reading and information literacy skills, has actually declined. The second section explains why librarians are perfectly suited to lead a writing revolution by including writing in their instruction, alongside the other interdependent skills of information literacy, research, and critical reading.
The final section of the presentation, with help from audience members, shares ways writing can be included in the library curriculum and offers instructional writing strategies and tips on giving feedback. Audience members will leave the presentation with a bibliography of resources and sample lesson plans to help them take-on this new instructional challenge

The collaborator communities have been focusing on six areas: 1) Researcher Communications 2) Metadata Recommendations and Element Mappings 3) Defining the Terms We Use About Metadata 4) Incentives for Improving Metadata Quality 5) Shared Best Practice and Principles 6) Metadata Evaluation and Guidance This talk describes the different interest areas and offers a summary of the status of the collaborative projects. It will be of interest to librarians and scholarly communication stakeholders who want to improve research discovery and access
