Enhancing the resonance light scattering of DNA by Be2+ ions and in combination with other metals
This research evaluated the behaviour of BeCl2 alone and in combination with other metals interacting with the double-stranded DNA and single-stranded DNA using resonance light scattering to follow the interaction process. The interaction of Be2+ions with DNA was evaluated in the light of enhanced resonance light scattering. Be2+- DNA interactions achieved maximum light scattering intensity at pH =5.0 and around 300 nm. The enhanced intensity of the resonance light-scattering directly correlated with the Be concentration. Be2+and Al3+ ions showed essential differences in their interaction mechanisms and concentration ranges to increase the resonance light intensity linearly. Quantum mechanical calculations provided the polynuclear species [Be3(OH)3]3+as the more favourable energetic binding with DNA around pH 5.0, and similar binding Gibbs energies for Be2+and [Be3(OH)3]3+ions, although close to those found for Al3+and Al(OH)2+ions when joined to B-DNA binding sites but much more larger than for Ca2+and Mg2+. The above differences and the physicochemical properties of both metals (Be and Al) suggest that Be2+as [Be3(OH)3]3+mainly interacts with the double-stranded nucleic acid through the phosphate and bases, probably forming an adduct, enhancing the resonance light scattering.RL, ND and DS gratefully acknowledge the financial support of the

Xray Reflectivity dataThe magnetic anisotropy of amorphous NdCo compounds deposited by magnetron sputtering change with film thickness from in plane to out of plane anisotropy at thickness above 40 nm. Xray reflectivity measurements shows the progressive formation of an additional layer in between the 3 nm thick Si capping layer and the NdCo compound film. Hard Xray Photoemission spectroscoy (HAXPES) was used to analyze the composition and distribution of cobalt and neodymium at the top layers region of NdCo films of thickness ranging from 5 nm to 65 nm using 7 keV, 10 keV and 13 keV incident photon energies, with inelastic electron mean free paths ranging from 7.2 nm to 12.3 nm in cobalt. The atomic cobalt concentration of the alloy deduced from HAXPES measurements at the Nd 3d and Co 2p excitations results to be below the nominal value, changing with thickness and incident photon energy. This proves a segregation of the rare earth at the surface of the NdCo thin film which increases with thickness. The analysis of the background of the Co 2p and Nd 3d peaks was consistent with this conclusion. This demonstrates that neodymium incorporation in the cobalt lattice have a cost in energy which can be associated to strain due to the difference in volume between the two elements. The lowering of this strain energy will favor atomic anisotropic environments for neodymium that explains the perpendicular anisotropy and its thickness dependence of these NdCo compound films.European Synchrotron ESRF, the Spanish Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovacion y Universidades, and the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas for provision of synchrotron radiation at BM25 and for financial support through the projects PIE 2010-6-0E-013, 2021-60-E-030 and CEX2024-001445-S. Digital Twin Solution for the Monitoring of Photovoltaic Power Plants
In this thesis a digital twin was developed for monitoring of photovoltaic (PV) power
plants. The digital twin should give PV plant operators more insight into the behavior of their plant, optimize energy output, minimize downtime, and therefore make
the PV plant more cost effective and enhances their efficiency. A PV Emulator model
was used to estimate plant performance based on meteorological data and system
characteristics. The PV Emulator was developed in previous works, in this work new
considerations have been included. The improved PV Emulator was tested under
various conditions in two photovoltaic plants to evaluate its performance. The simulation results demonstrated an overall very good accuracy, but it could be seen that
the accuracy highly depends on site-specific factors, particularly shading conditions.
For real-time operation, the model was implemented on a programmable logic controller. After converting the code to structured text, it was integrated into CODESYS
and validated against the original MATLAB implementation. Real-time communication using the Modbus TCP/IP protocol was successfully tested, confirming the
system’s capability to receive data, execute simulations, and return results reliably in
real time
