On the Axial Symmetry of 2D Star-Shaped Sets
An essential aspect of the study of shapes is the symmetry because of its importance from a theoretical point of view and its applicability in multiple real-life problems. In this manuscript, the axial symmetry of 2D star-shaped sets is analyzed. For
such a purpose, different measures of axial symmetry of a star-shaped set are proposed and the concept of a best symmetry axis is also introduced. By means of them, families of symmetry measures for star-shaped sets quantifying the degree of symmetry of a set of that class are introduced. All of them are discussed in detail, providing their main properties and the existence of at least a best axis of symmetry, which could be not unique, for any star-shaped set. Some examples illustrate the concepts and results of the manuscript.Funding: Open Access funding provided thanks to the CRUE-CSIC

Emotional regulation as a mediating variable between risk of psychosis and common mental health problems in adolescents
Background: The main clinical high-risk of psychosis (CHRp) approaches are focused on core features of
schizophrenia that might surface in the prodromal phases, mainly psychotic-like experiences (PLEs) (e.g., prodromal or schizotypal symptoms) or associated phenomena like basic symptoms or anomalous experiences of the
self. Given that PLEs vary depending on distress levels, related common mental health problems, emotional
regulation (ER) strategies and eventual clinical outcomes, exploring the heterogeneous nature of these PLEs and
their psychological correlates could aid in distinguishing between subclinical and clinical psychotic experiences.
The present study aims firstly to generate new evidence on the understanding of clinical relevance of PLEs and
associated phenomena in a non-clinical representative sample of 1824 Spanish adolescents, according to their
CHRp level (high/moderate/low). Secondly, we analyzed the possible mediating effect of three different
emotional regulation strategies ((experiential avoidance (EA), cognitive reappraisal (CR) and emotional suppression (ES)) between PLEs and non-specific symptoms of depression, anxiety, stress, trauma related distress
and substance use. Results showed that a more frequent use of EA and ES resulted in a higher CHRp, with no
differences in the use of CR. In addition, EA emerged as a significant mediating factor between CHRp and the
development of emotional symptoms and substance use. Emotion regulation strategy may account for heterogeneity in PLE outcomes. The use of EA as a coping strategy for their PLEs in adolescents with CHRp may
facilitate the development of common mental health problems such as anxiety, depression or cannabis use pathologies. Helping adolescents at CHRp to use non-avoidant coping strategies may be indicated if their preventive
effects are demonstrated.Carlos III Health Institute [FISS-23-PI23-00416]; European Union; Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness [MINECO-17-PSI2016-79524-R

Reducing the carbon footprint of LNG shipping: Implementation of a combined waste heat recovery system in the onboard incinerator for lower environmental impact
The shipping industry is committed to reducing CO₂ emissions by at least 40 % by 2030. Liquefied Natural Gas tankers play a critical role in achieving this target; however, these vessels typically rely on incineration for waste disposal during extended voyages. This study proposes an integrated waste heat recovery system for an LNG vessel's incinerator, considering the range of historically traveled routes, spanning both cold and hot regions. The system combines a conventional Rankine cycle, an organic Rankine cycle, and a Seebeck effect heat-to-electricity harvester. The steam Rankine cycle harnesses waste heat from exhaust gases, while the organic Rankine captures low-grade thermal waste energy using fluids selected based on their energy recovery potential, environmental impact, and safety profile. A series of operational scenarios were examined, with R1234ze(Z) identified as the most effective organic fluid. The proposed system can recover up to 264.57 kW of net power, thereby reducing CO₂ emissions by 86.67 tons annually. A multi-objective optimization identifies the optimal operating point under realistic conditions, guiding operators on the most favorable times to run the incinerator for maximum energy recovery. This innovative system, which accounts for geographic location, supports the maritime sector's decarbonization goals by enhancing energy efficiency and reducing emissions
