Boundary objects: sustainability reporting and the production of organizational stability
Purpose: The study investigates how sustainability reporting constructs a narrative about an organization that provides its members with a reality they can accept, with the consequence of producing organizational stability. Design/methodology/approach: The article reports a research engagement concerning the “backstage” of sustainability reporting in one Spanish savings bank, which the researchers engaged with for more than three years. Findings: The article describes how sustainability reporting operates as a boundary object occupying the space between the organization’s loosely coupled systems and facilitating the cooperation of members with different interpretations of the organization. Different translations of discourses and actions ensure that the sustainability report conveys a ductile narrative that can be tailored to specific interpretations. At the same time, the editing inherent in sustainability reporting ensures that any narrative that may challenge the organization’s dominant perspective is ignored and marginalized. In this way, sustainability reporting produces a discourse that inscribes a narrative of the organization and eventually ensures organizational inertia. Research limitations/implications: The article highlights the relevance of investigating sustainability reports by exploring the backstage of their production rather than solely the final document. Originality/value: In contrast to prior research that has been concerned with exploring the extent to which sustainability reporting is associated with organizational change, this study applies different lenses to show how and why sustainability reporting is implicated in the construction of the organization and the maintenance of its stability and inertia. We are grateful for the financial assistance provided by Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad, FEDER and Consejería de Educación, Junta de Castilla y León (Grants RTI2018-099920-B-I00 and BU069P20)

Gold-Catalyzed “Back-to-Front” Synthesis of 4-Silyloxyindoles
A series of pyrrol-yn-glycol derivatives were easily prepared from simple pyrroles through a three-step sequence involving hydroxyalkylation-alkynylation-O-silylation. Their reaction with IPrAuNTf2 triggers a C2-pyrrole attack onto the activated alkyne and subsequent highly selective 1,2-migration of the oxyalkyl group in the intermediate spirocycle. This approach enables the efficient synthesis of a wide selection of regioselectively functionalized 4-hydroxyindoles, which represent important yet challenging indole scaffolds, in high yields. We gratefully acknowledge Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación(PID2020-115789GB-C21/AEI/10.13039/501100011033), and Junta de Castilla y León and FEDER (BU028P23) forfinancial support.
The present doctoral thesis entitled “Effects of the implementation of a dynamic elastomeric fabric orthosis on the functionality and quality of life of the person with Parkinson's Disease (PD)” is carried out according to the thesis modality by compendium of scientific articles. The work scheme established to achieve the main objective is based on a study composed of 3 structured articles, a study protocol and two longitudinal clinical trials. Parkinson's Disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder, characterized by a loss of dopamine neurons in the substantia nigra. It is characterized by the appearance of different motor and non-motor symptoms. The main motor symptoms of the disease are tremor at rest, bradykinesia, stiffness of the extremities, gait and balance problems. As the disease progresses, motor symptoms become accentuated, which leads to a decrease in the functionality of the patient's Activities of Daily Living (ADL). Current pharmacological treatment is based on dopaminergic treatments such as levodopa, dopamine agonists and reduction of dopamine degradation. The effectiveness of this treatment progressively decreases and produces other side effects such as dyskinesias and motor fluctuations. Currently, there are different types of non-pharmacological treatments that reduce the presence and intensity of motor symptoms; however, there is not enough scientific evidence about them and resources are scarce. Therefore, the main objective of this thesis is to evaluate the effects of the implementation of a dynamic elastomeric fabric orthosis (DEFO) on the functionality and quality of life of the person with PD. DEFO are a non-pharmacological and easily implemented device personalized for each patient that provides biomechanical alignment and allows freedom of movement of the body while sending sensory information to the brain, causing compression localized and stimulation of dermal and proprioceptive receptors that regulate motor activity. Goals To evaluate the effects of the implementation of DEFO on the functionality and quality of life of the person with PD. To evaluate the effectiveness of DEFO on manual dexterity in the SM of people with PD. Material and methods For the development of this project, patients diagnosed with PD, treated in the Neurology Service of the University Hospital of Burgos, participated. The intervention protocol was designed (Study I of the thesis) and two longitudinal studies (Studies II and III of the thesis). Based on them, the effectiveness of these devices on the different motor symptoms of PD has been proven, in order to find an effective treatment, without side effects and with great adherence for the patient. Thanks to this doctoral thesis, highly relevant information has been obtained about this type of devices; however, it is necessary to continue researching its effectiveness in this disease
A systematic review of virtual 3D reconstructions of Cultural Heritage in immersive Virtual Reality
Immersive Virtual Reality (iVR) devices are increasingly affordable and accessible to consumers. The widespread adoption of this technology for professional training is now finding its way into various other fields. One field that is gaining significant popularity is Cultural Heritage (CH), where iVR enables the reconstruction and exploration of lost heritage. However, an up-to-date systematic review of iVR within this field will be of great benefit. Hence, the present review of 94 papers published between 2013 and 2022 that follows PRISMA methodology on virtual reconstruction of CH for iVR. The aim is to identify the key factors behind the development of these applications and their standards. To do so, a statistical analysis on the following topics was performed: (1) nationality, publication date, and article type; (2) heritage type and its current state of preservation; (3) the area of final application and the features of the reconstructions; (4) the characteristics of the iVR experience; and (5) the assessment of the iVR applications. Finally, a roadmap of best practices is outlined for the virtual reconstruction of CH using iVR and some of the most promising future research lines are outlined
Historical consciousness is a third-order concept central to the development of historical thinking skills, consistently linked to the teaching of controversial topics in the history classroom. From this perspective, the primary objective of the current doctoral thesis is to analyze and assess the operationalization of historical consciousness in the didactic treatment of controversial topics in formal secondary education and in the initial training of teachers. The applied methods embrace a multidimensional approach, combining both qualitative and quantitative approaches, and employing various research designs such as case study, content analysis, and non-experimental and quasi-experimental designs without a control group. Participant selection primarily relies on convenience non-probabilistic sampling, based on the accessibility of the research team and alignment with the research objectives. Instruments and techniques vary according to the study, including the administration of scales and the categorization of textual and discursive quotations. Quantitative designs and procedures also involve specific actions to control extraneous variables or test the reliability and validity of the instruments. The findings underscore the importance of historical consciousness for understanding and interpreting the historicity of the world, and the generation of counterhegemonic narratives to intervene in current realities and shape desirable futures. The inclusion of controversial topics in the teaching of Social Sciences could enhance skills associated with historical consciousness, addressing the ongoing need for education in critical democratic citizenship, aimed at promoting human rights and diversity
