Discapacidad y oportunidades de vida: una perspectiva de análisis desde el enfoque de la sociología
Situación del personal docente e investigador con discapacidad en el sistema universitario español
En la presente investigación, Situación del personal docente e investigador con discapacidad en el sistema universitario español, dirigida por la doctora Carmen Márquez Vázquez, se examina con amplitud la situación de las personas con discapacidad como Personal Docente e Investigador (PDI) en el sistema universitario español.
A este objetivo general, se llega a partir de abordajes específicos en esferas como el porcentaje de personas con discapacidad que forman parte de las universidades españolas
como PDI; las medidas de apoyo instauradas por las universidades españolas destinadas a facilitar la participación de personas con discapacidad en la carrera docente e investigadora; las barreras que están limitando el acceso y/o el desarrollo profesional de las personas con discapacidad en esta carrera y los apoyos con los que cuentan las personas con discapacidad para acceder y progresar como PDI.
Los resultados acreditados evidencian un estado de incumplimiento generalizado de los imperativos éticos y legales que retratan a las universidades españolas como entornos escasamente inclusivos, muy lejanos aún de unos estándares mínimos aceptables en materia de participación de las personas con discapacidad en el plano docente e investigador.
Promovida por la Fundación ONCE y la Fundación Derecho y Discapacidad, con la colaboración de la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, esta completa investigación es objeto de publicación por el Comité Español de Representantes de Personas con Discapacidad (CERMI) como material de base para fundar una acción de incidencia política ante los instancias decisorias del sistema universitario español dirigida a que la inclusión laboral y los apoyos sean una realidad para todos los miembros con discapacidad de la comunidad universitaria, comprendido el personal docente y el investigador
Articulation of an Erasmus+ project for senior university students
The Inter-University Experience Programme (PIE) of the University of Burgos (UBU),
as a non-formal education programme for adults, has sought to expand opportunities
for its students and staff through the development of international partnerships within
the framework of the Erasmus+ Programme. Taking into account the priorities of
the Programme, such as inclusion and diversity, digital transformation, environment
and climate change and participation in democratic life, a comprehensive KA122-

The Contribution of Interdisciplinary Education to the Development of Students Competences with Intellectual Disabilities. An Analysis from the Social and Rights Model
Interdisciplinary education is presented as an opportunity to address the challenges of education, especially in the case of the most vulnerable groups. People with intellectual disabilities, because of their specific cognitive processes that influence their learning, have particulary suffered the consequences of school exclusion. In recent years, international treaties have addressed the inclusive education of people with disabilities as one of the problems to be tackled, in a context of diversity and learning for all, and at all stages of life. In the face of difficulties, the foundations that define interdisciplinary education make it a good practice for achieving equal educational opportunities, by addressing content in a holistic way that is close to real problems. This chapter delves into interdisciplinary education as a strategy available for the learning of people with intellectual disabilities, under the approach of the social and rights model, establishing links between the context and the person through new approaches, this offering a new framework of opportunities for lifelong, quality and inclusive learning
Virtual reality and machine learning in the automatic photoparoxysmal response detection
Photosensitivity, in relation to epilepsy, is a genetically determined condition in which patients have epileptic seizures of different severity provoked by visual stimuli. It can be diagnosed by detecting epileptiform discharges in their electroencephalogram (EEG), known as photoparoxysmal responses (PPR). The most accepted PPR detection method—a manual method—considered as the standard one, consists in submitting the subject to intermittent photic stimulation (IPS), i.e. a flashing light stimulation at increasing and decreasing flickering frequencies in a hospital room under controlled ambient conditions, while at the same time recording her/his brain response by means of EEG signals. This research focuses on introducing virtual reality (VR) in this context, adding, to the conventional infrastructure a more flexible one that can be programmed and that will allow developing a much wider and richer set of experiments in order to detect neurological illnesses, and to study subjects’ behaviours automatically. The loop includes the subject, the VR device, the EEG infrastructure and a computer to analyse and monitor the EEG signal and, in some cases, provide feedback to the VR. As will be shown, AI modelling will be needed in the automatic detection of PPR, but it would also be used in extending the functionality of this system with more advanced features. Pilot Study on the Effects of the Teaching Interpersonal Skills Program for Teens Program (PEHIA)
Background/Objective: Social skills are essential in adolescence, both for their relational dimension and for their influence on other areas of adolescent life, so it is essential to include Social skills in the formal education of students.
Method: This paper presents the results of an experimental mixed factorial design pilot study in which an Interpersonal Skills Training Program for Adolescents (PEHIA1) was applied. The convenience sample consisted of 51 adolescents. An evaluation was carried out before and after the intervention, using the CEDIA (Adolescent Interpersonal Difficulties Assessment Questionnaire) and SAS-A (Social Anxiety Scale for Adolescents) questionnaires.
Results: The mixed factorial ANOVA show significant differences in the overall measures and in most of the subscales of both questionnaires, indicating that PEHIA is effectiveness, at least in the short term.
Conclusions: The results obtained in assertiveness, interpersonal relationships and public speaking suggest that the program is feasible and shows promising results in reducing anxiety. However, a larger scale study should be conducted
Outcomes Impacting Quality of Life in Advanced Parkinson’s Disease Patients Treated with Levodopa-Carbidopa Intestinal Gel
Background:
It is believed that motor symptoms, including dyskinesia, and non-motor symptoms impact health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD), and that improvements in these metrics are correlated.
Objective:
Investigate the relationship between HRQoL and measures of PD severity and treatment efficacy, including motor and non-motor symptoms.
Methods:
This was a planned investigation of an international, prospective, single-arm, post-marketing observational study of the long-term effectiveness of levodopa-carbidopa intestinal gel (LCIG) in patients with advanced PD. Pearson correlation coefficients (PCC) were calculated for baseline and change from baseline at 12 months between HRQoL and motor and non-motor symptoms.
Results:
A total of 195 patients were included. At baseline, HRQoL was moderately positively correlated with Activities of Daily Living (UPDRS II, PCC = 0.44), non-motor symptoms (0.48), and measures of sleep (0.50 and 0.40); all p < 0.001. After 12 months of treatment with LCIG, improvements in HRQoL were moderately positively correlated with improvement from baseline in non-motor symptoms (PCC = 0.42), sleep (0.54), and daytime sleepiness (0.40; all p < 0.001), and weakly correlated with improvement in dyskinesia signs and symptoms (PCC = 0.23; p = 0.011). Improvement in HRQoL was not correlated with improvements in OFF time or dyskinesia time.
Conclusion:
Both at baseline and for change from baseline at 12 months, HRQoL was correlated with baseline and change from baseline in dyskinesia, Activities of Daily Living, and non-motor symptoms, including sleep; but not with baseline or change in OFF time

Experimental and numerical simulation study of a PCM melting process without convective flows
Comunicación presentada en: XII Congreso Nacional y III Internacional de Ingeniería Termodinámica (12 CNIT), June 19- July 1, Madrid (Spain)Latent heat thermal energy storage (LHTES) is a mechanism of thermal energy storage (TES) that aims to improve the efficiency of these systems by the use of phase change materials (PCMs). During the melting process (charging), the LHTTES system stores energy that can be retrieved in the solidification processes (discharge). These new systems achieve higher energy density because they can store the latent heat of a phase change in the same temperature range where another substance would only store energy in the form of sensible heat. In addition, the use of PCMs increases the thermal inertia of the system, as the phase change processes of pure substances are isothermal.
