La importancia de la perspectiva pragmática en la enseñanza de ELE a través de la fraseología

    No full text
The latest studies on the methodology of teaching and learning a foreign language agree on the importance of the use of communicative approaches in the classroom, so that has an influence on the development of oral skills. Therefore, the pragmatic aspect acquires an essential role in this area. This research focuses its interest on the study of phraseological units because their cultural background brings multiple benefits to the ELE student. For this purpose, a questionnaire has been carried out in order to analyze the difficulty of these units, the previous knowledge of the students and other influential factors. With the results on the table, a series of ad hoc didactic proposals are proposed so that will help the student to recognize some phraseological units and to improve the pragmatic strategies that will lead them to make effective and appropriate interventions in a real context of use. The division of the phraseological units will not be carried out by levels but by lexical blocks. Finally, with regard to the evaluation methods, two grading methods are proposed based on the student's needs. What is really important is to give the learner an active role in classroom communication and to operate with corrections only when necessary for the speaker's sociolinguistic improvement without interfering with his or her self-esteem and motivation

El triunfo del Manierismo. La capilla de la Natividad de la catedral de Burgos

    No full text

Physical Education (PE), due to the intrinsic motivation it generates in students, can be an ideal subject for learning a second language. The aim of the study was to analyse the perception of a PE teacher and her students on the acquisition of language and subject content. A teacher who teaches PE in English and Spanish and 80 students from two years of ESO (38 in bilingual and 42 in non-bilingual groups) took part in the study. A qualitative approach was used, employing three data collection instruments: semi-structured interviews, logbooks and focus groups. Four categories of analysis were established: a) Language acquisition; b) EF curriculum content; c) Subject difficulty. The results show that training in CLIL methodology is a key aspect in the teaching of PE in English, not reducing the learning of the curricular content. The bilingual groups, despite showing greater involvement in the subject, show greater difficulty because it is taught in English

The Use of GIS and Multicriteria Techniques for the Socio-Spatial Analysis of Urban Areas in Medium-Sized Spanish Cities

    No full text
In recent decades, particularly intense changes have occurred in Spanish urban areas. This is the result of demographic and urbanizing transformations that have led to a change in the city model. The predominance of compact forms has been replaced by the growing prominence of urban sprawl. Structures are now more extensive, characterized, in turn, by fragmentation and the notable consumption of land in the peripheries. In medium-sized cities, the municipalities bordering the central cities have concentrated the processes of suburbanization and periurbanization. This paper addresses the processes of change for 34 cities and their urban areas located in inland Spain. A proposal is made for the delimitation and characterization of urban areas, taking the municipality as the unit of analysis. At the methodological level, six variables are used, analyzed by means of multicriteria statistical techniques combined with the use of GIS tools. An Urban Transformation Index (ITU) has been developed that synthesizes urbanizing, demographic and socioeconomic dynamics (six variables related to population, housing and socio-productive structure are used). In the territorial area, the 20-min isochrone is used as a reference. In the temporal domain, the period of analysis addresses the events of the first two decades of the twenty-first century. This research was funded by the public call for R+D+i projects granted by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation (MCIN): Fragmentation and socio-spatial segregation in Spanish medium-sized cities and their urban areas (2001–2021). SUB 1– Sociospatial segregation and the geographies of everyday life in Spanish medium-sized cities and their urban areas. (PID2021-124511NB-C21). SUB 2—Spatial fragmentation and residential space (housing and public space) in Spanish medium-sized cities and their urban areas (PID2021-124511NB-C22)

    No full text
Purpose: To validate the Spanish version of Barcelona Orthorexia Scale (BOS) in general population, analyzing its items and both its internal structure and psychometric properties (internal consistency and temporal stability). In addition, the relationship between ON and external measures of attitudes towards food was assessed. Method: The general population sample consisted of 446 women and 104 men, aged between 18.31 and 69.44 years (M = 36.03; SD = 12.46). Of these, 39 participants answered again the questionnaires after one month from the first application. The assessment instruments were a sociodemographic questionnaire, the BOS, the Eating Attitudes Test-26 (EAT-26) and the Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire (DEBQ). Results: The final version of the BOS is composed of 35 items. Exploratory factor analysis extracted an internal structure of 5 factors (Behavioral, Concern for healthy food, Attitudes and beliefs about food, Vital achievement and Emotional discomfort). The BOS-35 and the factors presented good internal consistency (α = .80–.90), and an adequate temporal stability (r = .62–.88). The highest association was observed between the Emotional Distress (BOS) and the Diet subscale (EAT-26; r = .51). Conclusions: This first validation of the BOS has shown adequate psychometric properties, being a valid and reliable instrument to assess ON in the general population. Level of evidence: Level II: Evidence obtained from well-designed controlled trials without randomization.Open Access funding provided thanks to the CRUE-CSIC agreement with Springer Nature. Modification of shrinkage and mechanical properties of concrete by the addition of ladle furnace slag (LFS)

    No full text
Comunicación oral presentada en: Second International Conference on Construction Materials and Structures ICCMS-2022, durante los días 13-19 de diciembre en India, de forma online. The decrease in humidity in a concrete element due to a difference in relative humidity between the surrounding environment and the element itself causes a volumetric deformation, which leads to a decrease in volume. This phenomenon, called shrinkage, can lead to the appearance of cracks in the concrete, which in turn can cause a decrease in the strength and durability of the structural element. One strategy to reduce shrinkage could be the addition of Ladle Furnace Slag (LFS) during concrete production, as this type of slag has expansive properties due to the presence of free lime and magnesia. LFS is a by-product of the steel industry, so its use in concrete production also has a beneficial effect on the environment by removing waste from the production chain. As the addition of LFS leads to a variation in the mechanical properties of concrete apart from a decrease in shrinkage, it is convenient to accurately evaluate the modification of all these properties when adding different proportions of LFS. The final aim is to define the optimum amount of LFS that can be added to reduce shrinkage while maintaining the mechanical properties of the concrete above the required limits. To do so, this research work evaluates the modification of shrinkage up to 90 days from concrete production, as well as the variation of two key mechanical properties, compressive strength and flexural strength, at two different curing ages, 28 and 90 days, when LFS in proportion of 5%, 10% and 20% is added to the concrete mix as cement addition. A reference mix was designed with a slump of about 70 mm and the other three mixes were defined by replacing the fine aggregate with LFS in the proportions referred and adjusting the water content to reach a slump equal to 80 ± 15 mm. The results showed a decrease in shrinkage when LFS was added to the concrete mix, although the water content of the concrete mix also played a key role. It was also found a modification of the compressive strength and flexural strength, which was related to the proportion of LFS added. Finally, it was also noted that the strength increased quicker when a lower proportion of slag was used. This research work was supported by the Spanish Ministry of Universities, MICINN, AEI, EU, ERDF and NextGenerationEU [grant numbers PID2020-113837RB-I00; 10.13039/501100011033; TED2021-129715B-I00]; the Junta de Castilla y León (Regional Government) and ERDF [grant number UIC-231]; and the University of Burgos [grant number SUCONS, Y135.GI]

Sustainability of phytoremediation: Post-harvest stratagems and economic opportunities for the produced metals contaminated biomass

    Get PDF
Heavy metals (HMs) are indestructible and non-biodegradable. Phytoremediation presents an opportunity to transfer HMs from environmental matrices into plants, making it easy to translocate from one place to another. The ornate features of HMs’ phytoremediation are biophilia and carbon neutrality, compared to the physical and chemical remediation methods. Some recent studies related to LCA also support that phytoremediation is technically more sustainable than competing technologies. However, one major post-application challenge associated with HMs phytoremediation is properly managing HMs contaminated biomass generated. Such a yield presents the problem of reintroducing HMs into the environment due to natural decomposition and release of plant sap from the harvested biomass. The transportation of high yields can also make phytoremediation economically inviable. This review presents the design of a sustainable phytoremediation strategy using an everevolving life cycle assessment tool. This review also discusses possible post-phytoremediation biomass management strategies for the HMs contaminated biomass management. These strategies include composting, leachate compaction, gasification, pyrolysis, torrefaction, and metal recovery. Further, the commercial outlook for properly utilizing HMs contaminated biomass was presented.Authors apologize to all authors whose research has supported this area of interest, and their relevant findings were left out during the preparation of this review.
