The development of online narrative in video games: the player’s agency in Grand Theft Auto V Roleplay

    No full text
Grand Theft Auto (GTA) V Roleplay is a mode of its online multiplayer version that transforms the narrative, interaction, and original mechanics. On January 2023, the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) entered into force. This new Directive, rooted in the European Green Deal and required for an increasing number of companies, establishes the corporate reporting requirements on environmental, social, and governance information. To the date of this publication, the CSRD is the most ambitious regulation on corporate sustainability reporting. The first part of this technical note synthesizes the key aspects of the Directive, including the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), the notion of double materiality, external assurance, forward-looking information, and the interoperability with other sustainability reporting frameworks. The second part of this document connects sustainability and financial information, shedding light on the role of management accounting in budgetary planning and control. In addition, challenges in management accounting systems that arise in compliance with the Directive are raised

Correlations between p-wave velocity and SPT-N for saturated and unsaturated alluvial clays using dimensional analysis

    No full text
The aim of this research is to establish practical and robust correlations between dilatational wave velocities (p-wave velocities, Vp) and the Standard Penetration Test blow count (SPT-N). Very low levels of correlation are recorded with the conventional single variable approaches, in consequence, a multivariable study is needed for higher precision. A dimensional analysis was conducted including other soil parameters that condition this physical phenomenon, such as the void ratio (e), the degree of saturation (Sr), the effective overburden pressure (σ′v), and the particle density (γs), for greater precision with Vp and SPT-N correlations. Over 100 seismic and SPT tests were performed around the coastal city of Juchitán de Zaragoza (Oaxaca), Mexico, to gather information for this research. As a result, two dimensionless indexes -DSIu (Undrained Dilatational Stiffness Index) and MDSIu (Modified Undrained Dilatational Stiffness Index)- yielded two alternative expressions between both indexes and Vp. In this way, a strong relationship between Vp and SPT-N was obtained with an adjusted coefficient of determination R2 value of 0.93

Evolution of Anxiety, Emotional Intelligence, and Effective Personality after COVID-19 among Spanish University Students

    No full text
The repercussions of the pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus over recent years have posed an unprecedented challenge for the whole of society, affecting the well-being of everyone. Among all the variables affected in relation to well-being, Anxiety, Emotional Intelligence, and Effective Personality (Self-Esteem, Academic Self-Realisation, Resolute Self-Efficacy, Social Self-Realisation) have been highlighted. The aim of this study is to assess the evolution of those variables across three temporal phases: pre-pandemic, during the pandemic, and up until the end of the study in April 2022. A study was conducted during these temporal phases with three cohorts from Spanish Universities. The cohorts were formed of people assessed for Anxiety (660 pre-pandemic, 460 during the pandemic, and 311 at the end of the study), Emotional Intelligence (355 pre-pandemic, 91 during the pandemic, 311 at the end of the study), and Effective Personality (708 pre-pandemic, 174 in 2018, 311 at the end of the study). Anxiety was assessed with the State–Trait Anxiety Inventory, Emotional Intelligence with the Trait Meta-Mood Scale and TMMS-24, and Effective Personality with the Cuestionario Personalidad Eficaz-Universidad (the Effective Personality Questionnaire-University). The results showed a rise in the state of anxiety during COVID-19, with a subsequent reduction two years into the pandemic; however, anxiety rates remained higher than before the pandemic. Emotional intelligence increased in the emotional attention factor, but diminished as regards both clarity and regulation. Effective Personality was at lower levels for all factors (Self-Esteem, Academic Self-Realisation, Resolute Self-Efficacy, Social Self-Realisation). The main conclusion was the need for assistance with the dimensions under study, in order to improve the well-being of university students after the serious effects caused by COVID-19

A systematic review of wearable biosensor usage in immersive virtual reality experiences

    No full text
Wearable biosensors are increasingly incorporated in immersive Virtual Reality (iVR) applications. A trend that is attributed to the availability of better quality, less costly, and easier-to-use devices. However, consensus is yet to emerge over the most optimal combinations. In this review, the aim is to clarify the best examples of biosensor usage in combination with iVR applications. The high number of papers in the review (560) were classified into the following seven fields of application: psychology, medicine, sports, education, ergonomics, military, and tourism and marketing. The use of each type of wearable biosensor and Head-Mounted Display was analyzed for each field of application. Then, the development of the iVR application is analyzed according to its goals, user interaction levels, and the possibility of adapting the iVR environment to biosensor feedback. Finally, the evaluation of the iVR experience was studied, considering such issues as sample size, the presence of a control group, and post-assessment routines. A working method through which the most common solutions, the best practices, and the most promising trends in biofeedback-based iVR applications were identified for each field of application. Besides, guidelines oriented towards good practice are proposed for the development of future iVR with biofeedback applications. The results of this review suggest that the use of biosensors within iVR environments need to be standardized in some fields of application, especially when considering the adaptation of the iVR experience to real-time biosignals to improve user performance.Open Access funding provided thanks to the CRUE-CSIC agreement with Springer Nature. No full text
The present study seeks to ascertain whether the academic procrastination of university pre-service teachers varied during the COVID-19 pandemic when compared to data collected from another sample (n = 794) taken before the pandemic, and the reasons that might explain this. 910 pre-service teachers responded to the PASS scale, Academic Procrastination Scale, Unintentional Procrastination Scale, Active Procrastination Scale, and the New General Self-Efficacy Scale during the pandemic. The results reflect greater procrastination than for the pre-pandemic sample; 37.8% felt that their procrastination had increased due to the pandemic, which was more evident amongst women, whereas 8.7% reported having procrastinated less, displaying the highest level of self-efficacy. In both instances, the most commonly alleged reasons were greater time management, together with changes they were forced to make in their study habits. We discuss the implications that might need to be considered when planning and organizing teaching, should a similar situation occur again.
