Environmental entrepreneurship orientation and duality ofgoals: The moderating roles of public and private knowledge
Full text linkExpanding dynamic capability theory, we propose environmental entrepreneurshiporientation (EEO) as a dynamic capability to achieve a duality of goals—the simulta-neous and synergistic realization of environmental and economic performance. Weconceptualize a moderating effect of a company's knowledge base (public or private)on the relationship between EEO and the duality of goals. We test our hypothesis inSpanish companies by applying partial least squares modeling. We find that: a) EEOrelates positively to both environmental and economic performance, b) public knowl-edge enhances the relation between EEO and environmental performance, and c) pri-vate knowledge strengthens the relation between EEO and economic performance.The implication of our findings is that firms need to simultaneously access public andprivate knowledge to optimize the influence of EEO on attaining this duality of goals

Experimental Evaluation of the Water Productivity and Water Footprint of a Greenhouse Tomato Crop for Different Blends of Desalinated Seawater and Two Growing Media
Full text linkAn experimental evaluation of water productivity and footprint was carried out in a Mediterranean greenhouse tomato crop irrigated with different blends of desalinated seawater (DSW) for two different growing media: soil and soilless culture. Total and commercial water productivity values (expressed in terms of kg of fruit/m3 of water) and water footprint were calculated from empirical data on water consumption and crop yields. Regarding the growing media, the results of the experiment showed that the soilless culture had significantly lower water productivity and a higher water footprint, mainly due to the greater water consumption in these systems. These findings seem to indicate that fostering closed-loop soilless systems with water and nutrient recirculation is highly beneficial for improving the efficiency and sustainability of these soilless systems. The salinity of the irrigation water blends did not seem to have a significant influence on water productivity and water footprint. Nevertheless, treatments with higher DSW fractions and better quality showed slightly beer productivity values and lower water footprints than those with higher salinity. These findings seem to support the fact that the conjunctive use of DSW and conventional water, within the range proposed in this study, is a favorable option from both economic and environmental perspectives
Effects of Neural Load on Hamstring Stretching upon Flexibility, Maximum Isometric Strength, and Tibial Nerve Pressure Pain Threshold in Healthy Subjects: A Randomized Clinical Trial
Full text linkBackground: Stretching has been shown to improve flexibility, muscle activation, and coordination, but its effects may depend on neural tension during the stretch. This study evaluated the short- and medium-term effects of hamstring stretching with and without neural load on flexibility, tibial nerve pressure pain threshold, and maximum isometric strength. (2) Methods: Seventy-eight healthy participants (mean age: 24.96 ± 6.11 years) were randomly assigned to stretching programs with (n = 39) or without neural load (n = 39). Flexibility, pressure pain threshold, and maximum isometric strength were assessed at baseline, after the first session, at the end of the intervention, and one month later. (3) Results: The group using neural load showed significant flexibility improvements after the first session (MD = −5.2; p < 0.001), which were maintained at two months (MD = −8.6; p < 0.001) and follow-up (MD = −6.4; p < 0.001). In the control group, flexibility gains diminished at follow-up (MD = −3.9; p = 0.052). Other variables showed no significant changes across time points. (4) Conclusions: Since neither treatment showed superior efficacy, no specific stretching type could be recommended

Calibration and validation of a leaf net photosynthesis simulation model in greenhouses
No full textPhotosynthetic activity is one of the basic processes related to crop productivity. Modeling photosynthesis as a function of incident radiation and CO2 concentration is essential to predict the effectiveness of climate control systems. The present work was developed with the aim of calibrate a model to calculate the leaf net photosynthesis rate using the photosynthetic activity measured in leaves of five greenhouse crops. The experimental work was carried out from 2019 to 2023 in four multispan greenhouses of the Experimental Station “Catedrático Eduardo Fernández” of the Centre for Innovation and Technology Transfer “Fundación UAL - ANECOOP” (Almería). Three tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) and two pepper (Capsicum anuum L.) crop cycles were used for validation. The plants were grown in “arenado” sand mulch soil, typically used in Almería greenhouses, and in coconut substrate. Leaf photosynthetic activity was measured with a portable analyzer in plants randomly chosen for different days during the whole crop cycles, with a total of 4377 measurements. The light use efficiency of leaves αL, the leaf conductance to CO2 transfer τ and the leaf dark respiration rate Rd were calculated for each crop cycle. The photosynthetic activity values obtained with the mathematical model were compared with the values measured on plant leaves. A calibration has been carried out to minimize the estimation error, obtaining values of the three model parameters similar to those proposed in the original model, although the error is always greater than 15%. The analyzed model allows estimating the net photosynthesis measured in the leaves of pepper plants with better results (R2>54.9) than for tomato crops (R2<48.0). The predicted mean values for the five pepper crops remarkably close to the means of the measured values
Novelas gráficas y cómics como herramienta pedagógica queer: abordando la LGBTQ+fobia a través de Heartstopper (2019)
No full textGraphic novels and comics are effective tools for queer pedagogy due to blend of visual and textual elements, which foster engagement and empathy. Moreover, the importance of the inclusion of LGBTQ+ topics is presented as their integration into the curriculum promotes diversity, challenges stereotypes, helps to create an anti-discriminatory mindset, and fights against LGBTQ+phobia. Based on common stereotypes, such as queer identity, coming out, bullying, and sports prejudice, Alice Oseman’s Heartstopper (2019) is proposed for their incorporation as a great graphic novel for the teachers' use. La sociología en la provincia de Almería: Inicios, institucionalización académica e investigadora, y profesionalización

Introducción: Objetivo y Contexto El texto aborda la génesis y consolidación de la Sociología en la provincia de Almería, trazando una línea temporal que va desde los antecedentes educativos previos a la universidad hasta la actual cristalización de la disciplina. El objetivo es doble: por un lado, documentar la institucionalización académica dentro de la Universidad de Almería (UAL); y por otro, analizar la profesionalización de los egresados más allá de los muros universitarios. Se presenta como un ejercicio de memoria histórica y diagnóstico del capital humano sociológico en la provincia. 2. Desarrollo: Niveles Macro y Micro de la Institucionalización 2.1. Los Precedentes (La etapa pre-institucional) Antes de la creación de la UAL, la sociología existía de forma latente en otras instituciones. Destacáis la Escuela Normal de Magisterio y la Fundación Almería Social y Laboral como "incubadoras". Figuras clave: Se recupera la memoria de pioneros como Francisco Alarcón, primer titular de escuela universitaria en 1990 , y Marino Álvarez Mínguez, cuya tesis sobre toxicomanía en La Chanca (1992) marcó un hito en la sociología urbana y de la marginación local. También se menciona a Guillermo Márquez Cruz y su enfoque en la transición política. 2.2. Institucionalización Académica (Nivel Meso-Organizacional) Con la creación de la UAL en 1993, se formaliza el Área de Sociología. Liderazgo y Estructura: La llegada de Gonzalo Herranz de Rafael en 1992 fue el catalizador para la organización del departamento y la implantación curricular en diversas titulaciones. Crecimiento del Cuerpo Docente: Se describe el paso de un núcleo fundacional de tres profesores en 1994 a un equipo actual de 15 docentes (catedráticos, titulares y ayudantes), evidenciando una clara expansión del capital humano. 2.3. Producción Científica y Líneas de Investigación El capítulo realiza un análisis longitudinal de la producción doctoral y los grupos de investigación: Evolución Temática: Las tesis doctorales han transitado desde los estudios sobre identidad y nacionalismo (influencia de la Escuela de Málaga) hacia problemáticas de desigualdad, género, cuidados, migraciones y consumo. Grupos de Investigación: Se detalla la transformación del grupo original SEJ-419 al actual GISA (Grupo Indalo de Sociología Aplicada), liderado por la coautora, María José González. Hito Organizativo: Se subraya la organización del VIII Congreso Andaluz de Sociología (2016) en la UAL bajo el lema "Sociedades en Transición", demostrando la capacidad de convocatoria y madurez del área. 2.4. La Praxis Profesional (Sociología Aplicada) Más allá de la academia, el texto explora la inserción laboral de los sociólogos en Almería. Diversificación: Se identifican perfiles en consultoría de sostenibilidad, responsabilidad social corporativa, administración pública (Junta de Andalucía, Autoridad Portuaria) y marketing. Percepción de los Egresados: A través de entrevistas, se constata que la titulación ofrece una perspectiva integral valiosa ("amplía el horizonte"), aunque se detecta una demanda de mayor especialización técnica y visibilidad social de la profesión. 3. Conclusión: Implicaciones Prácticas La sociología en Almería ha superado la fase de "despegue" para alcanzar una consolidación estructural. El área ha logrado vertebrar una comunidad científica que responde a retos locales (migración, agricultura intensiva) con conexión global. Sin embargo, el texto concluye advirtiendo sobre desafíos pendientes: Transferencia: Necesidad de reforzar la utilidad pública del conocimiento sociológico hacia el tejido productivo y las políticas públicas. Visibilidad: Urgencia de "valorizar" la disciplina para reducir el intrusismo y ampliar el nicho laboral en el sector privado
