This essay studies the relationship between education level and political participation among residents of Örebro municipality. Earlier research shows that people with higher education usually participate more in political activities, but less is known about how this relationship works at the local level. The aim of the study is to examinate differences in political participation between individuals with and without post-secondary education and to analyze how these differences are influenced by the educational level of the residential area. The study is based on quantitative survey data from the project Klimatneutrala Örebro, combined with area-level data from the Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning. Political participation is measured through several activities such as contacting political actors, participating in demonstrations, political consumption and trying to influence others in political matters. The analysis uses cross-tabulations and chi-square tests. The results show that individuals with post-secondary education participate more in most political activities. At the same time the findings suggest that local context matters. Individuals without post-secondary education who live in highly educated areas show higher levels of political participation than those living in less educated areas. The study contributes to previous research by providing a detailed local-level analysis of how individuals resources and residential context together shape political participation
This study explores how women with immigrant backgrounds experience their work relationships and their position within Swedish workplaces. Using semi-structured interviews and critical discourse analysis, the study examines how gender and ethnicity intersect to shape women’s everyday work-life conditions. Drawing on Crenshaw’s theory of intersectionality and Foucault’s concept of power, the analysis highlights both structural and discursive mechanisms that influence how these women are perceived and evaluated. The results show that the women frequently encounter low expectations and stereotypical assumptions about immigrants, affecting how their competence is assessed. Many describe having to perform significantly better than their Swedish colleagues to receive equal recognition, as Swedishness functions as an implicit norm for professionalism. Participants also recount limited opportunities for advancement, with less experienced Swedish colleagues often being prioritized. To navigate these norms, several women adjust their language, behaviour, or even their names to appear “more Swedish”. The study shows that expressions of discrimination differ between sectors, in lower educated jobs it tends to be direct and explicit, while in higher educated professions it appears more subtly through assumptions about cultural fit. Overall, the study shows that the women’s work lives are shaped by complex power relations that restrict their participation and career development. The findings underline the need for further research on how organizations can challenge the norms that reproduce inequality.
Occupational therapists’ experiences of working with patients with Exhaustion Disorder : A qualitative interview study with Occupational Therapists inprimary care
Background Sick leave in Sweden has risen significantly, primarily due to stress-related mental health issues like exhaustion disorder. The consequences not do only involve personal suffering but also impair the functioning of society. Currently there are no national guidelines för treatment. Primary care, as the first point of contact, plays a key role in treating these issues. Occupational therapists, with their activity-focused perspective, are valuable in supporting this group, but their contribution in primary care remain understudied. Purpose The purpose of this study is to describe occupational therapists’ experiences of working with patients with exhaustion disorder in primary care. Method Semi-structured interviews were conducted with eleven occupational therapists who had at least two years of experience working with this group. Data were analysed using qualitative content analysis with an inductive approach. Results The study resulted in five categories and 14 subcategories. The categories were: “It is important to build a relationship,” “Goal-setting should be done in consultation with patients based on their needs after information gathering and methodical assessments,” “Treatment and its effectiveness are individual,” “Challenges affect treatment plans for patients in primary care, ”“More improvement work is needed för better healthcare and health.” Conclusions The study shows that individualized visit arrangements and positive encounter foster patient relationships, enhance security and participation, and can improve treatment outcomes.Treatment effectiveness is influenced by factors such as receiving treatment at the right time. Challenges, including limited resources, can affect treatment plans. The study highlights the importance of ongoing improvement work

In the following qualitative study, we examine the Swedish influencers portrayal of the subculture vanlife on Instagram. Using multimodal critical discourse analysis (MCDA) in combination with Barthes narrative theory, the study aims to outline how multimodal elements work together in the material to construct narratives and mythologies. Earlier research shows that digital subcultures are created and shaped through online interaction and trough the aestheticization of everyday life, in which influencers function as key actors who shapes norms, ideals, and identities within these communities. Furthermore, studies on vanlife also show that the lifestyle is often idealized in digital media, where themes of freedom, minimalism, mobility, and self-expression dominate, even though the lived reality frequently involves more practical and structural challenges than shown. Despite this growing body of literature, research specifically focusing on how Swedish influencers construct these narratives remains limited. Therefore, our analysis addresses the portrayal of vanlife by Swedish influencers on Instagram, and the glorifying mythologies reproduced through that content. The findings show that the lifestyle is often portrayed through everyday settings where the van is portrayed more as a home and social space rather than a vehicle of transportation. Also that vanlife is seen more as a lifestyle, rather than a form of leisure. These portrayals contribute to the construction of glorifying myths in which vanlife is framed as aesthetically pleasing, authentic, self-fulfilling, and relatively free from the constraints of ordinary life. Overall, the study concludes that Swedish vanlife-culture on Instagram should be understood not simply as a reflection of lived reality, but as a mediated construction shaped by aesthetic choices, platform logics and social norms
How is the news discourse about the Djerf Avenue case and the boycott of Matilda Djerf constructed in the Swedish media reporting? The study examines how the news discourse is constructed and what patterns can be identified in the 9 news articles from three different newspapers through Norman Fairclough's discourse analysis and the text level in his three- dimensional model. Matilda Djerf is an influential influencer who uses her social media to showcase beauty tips, self-acceptance and caring for others. This scandal has garnered a lot of attention on social media because it shows the complete opposite of what Djerf has shown on her and the company's public channels. This has resulted in thousands of people choosing to boycott both her and the company. The newspapers I have chosen are Aftonbladet, Metro Mode and SVT Nyheter, where I analyze three articles from each newspaper. In the analysis, I was able to identify four different patterns: Matilda Djerf as an influencer and business leader, responsibility, crisis and the staff´s work environment. The material is then analyzed through the analytical tools transitivity, modality and ethos. The study shows that Matilda Djerf has significant power both as an influencer and as the business leader. The news articles portray her as responsible for the scandal and construct an ongoing crisis within the company. The reactions of the world, such as criticism and unfollowing, can be understood as a form of exercising power and boycott. The analysis also highlights how social media often shows a controlled image of the company, while journalism and employee testimonies reveal real power structures and working conditions
This study aims to investigate the public’s response to Matilda Djerf’s defense statement published on the social media platform Instagram. This with the purpose to make way for an understanding of how the public generally reacts to an influencer's crisis communication. It takes its theoretical base in the theory concerning parasocial relationships which was established by Horton & Wohl (1956). Through a qualitative content analysis 50 comments are analyzed from the comment section of Djerf’s post. These 50 comments have been selected through a purposive sampling where four criteria have guided the process to ensure that the comments are representative of the public’s discussions. It is investigated to which extent the public sees Djerf as credible in her defense as well as to what extent they assign her responsibility for the situation, both of these questions are also discussed in relation to the existing knowledge of parasocial relationships. The study’s results show a mostly negative public opinion of Djerf but also a supportive and defensive minority. The response is understood in the light of parasocial relationships mainly through parasocial breakup despair or an avoidance thereof
Women’s entry into male-dominated occupations have increased over the last decades, while research shows that women in these work environments are often found in marginalized positions. Informal interactions in working life constitutes a significant, but often overlooked, factor in the reproduction of these unequal conditions. This study aims to examine how informal interaction at a male-dominated industrial workplace relates to unequal gender structures within the organization. In particular, the study focuses on how masculine gender norms are expressed, reproduced, and negotiated, as well as how women and men relate to these norms. The study is conducted as a qualitative interview study based on eight semi-structured interviews. The result shows that the dominant norms are strongly coded as masculine and are expressed through a harsh and often boundary-crossing jargon. The respondents relate to these norms through various strategies, with socialisation, normalisation, and a widespread silence culture being particularly prominent. Furthermore, the results show that the norms are maintained by management’s limited insight into informal interaction, together with homosocial tendencies and stereotypical perceptions at both individual and organisational levels.
