A Quick Start Guide to Science of Reading Aligned Textbooks for Literacy Instruction
Faculty in Educator Preparation Programs (EPPs) are facing the critical task of selecting appropriate textbooks and course materials as programs across the United States are realigning their curriculum for literacy instruction to reflect the evidence-based principles of the Science of Reading (SoR). This quick-start guide was developed from a collaborative discussion during The Reading League - Indiana Higher Education Collaboration’s September 2025 meeting. It offers a quick start list of foundational and supplementary texts. The guide highlights a few of the most popular comprehensive textbooks used and includes their National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ) rating. While not exhaustive, this list serves as a starting point for educators teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in SoR aligned literacy instruction
Integrating Food, Water, and Agriculture Education in Early Childhood: A Baseline Study of Farm to ECE Programming
This baseline study examined how [State] early care and education (ECE) providers implemented activities and access to locally grown foods, gardening, and learning about food, nutrition, water use, composting, and agriculture. Over the past three years, 254 respondents participated in farm to ECE, with many providers cooking or holding taste tests, doing agriculture/nutrition education, and conducting field trips. Universities, farmers, community organizations, and Extension agents could alleviate the primary barriers and support ECE providers through curriculum, website content, or trainings on how to teach 3-5 year olds agriculture, gardening, plant life cycle, water, the environment, or composting
Addressing Local Food Insecurity Through a Problem-Based Learning Classroom
Through the frame of Problem-Based Learning (PBL), a curriculum is proposed to engage students in addressing local food insecurity. Students collaboratively define the problem, explore underlying issues, establish goals, design solutions, and implement their chosen solution to address food insecurity within their community. The importance of community engagement and utilizing local resources are highlighted in advising the implementation of this program
Mapping Food-Energy-Water Nexus Education in K-12 Settings: A Systematic Review of Practices
This systematic review examines the current state of Food-Energy-Water (FEW) Nexus education in K-12 settings, following PRISMA-P guidelines. By analyzing peer-reviewed literature published before 2024, this study investigates how FEW Nexus concepts are implemented in K-12 education, focusing on systems thinking approaches and integrated knowledge areas. Initial database searching identified 693 articles, which are currently under review for inclusion. This analysis will provide insights into effective practices for integrating FEW Nexus concepts in K-12 educatio
Bell Ford Bridge Reconstruction Project
The Bell Ford Bridge was originally constructed in 1869 until it collapsed in the 20th century. The remains were salvaged and stored for 20 years until it was to be rebuilt in Hamilton County, IN. This is the only remaining Combination Post Truss in existence and was rebuilt using 95% of the original iron and 10% of the original timber
Wrong Way Vehicle Detection System (WWVDS) Pilot Project
We will discuss the overall concept of the WWVDS pilot project, how sites were chosen based on different information, and various types of treatments selected. Presenters will show the typical layout for each treatment type; discuss potential problems with installation and maintenance; explain future capabilities; and walk through some of the lessons learned since starting construction
The Epic Quest for Utility Easement Knowledge
This presentation will overview the importance of researching utility easements and the impact it can have on a project, delay-wise and cost-wise, when utility easement research is not thoroughly conducted to determine if a utility is reimbursable on a project
Pavement Patching: INDOT’s Comprehensive Patching Table Initiatives
This presentation will highlight INDOT’s latest efforts to enhance pavement patching practices through the development of comprehensive patching tables as part of the pavement design process. We will cover the new structure of these patching tables and explore advanced technologies for identifying patch locations, including a case study on the use of LiDAR technology for precise mapping and implementation
