Between unclear faculty information needs, the high costs of resources for a potentially low ROI, and the constant pressure to support evolving curricula as well as research agendas, it is difficult for business librarians to effectively steward their budget allocation in a way that meets their program\u27s need. This lightning talk introduces one strategic, low-cost benchmarking approach: using your business school\u27s Comparative, Competitive, and Aspirant Institutions list they create as part of the accreditation process for the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). By examining what resources peer and aspirant institutions subscribe to, librarians can identify collection gaps, strengthen resource proposals, and align acquisitions with institutional ambitions. Attendees will walk away with practical methods for identifying and using AACSB peer data (or alternatives approaches if not accredited), tips for integrating findings into budget justifications, and a renewed perspective on how to navigate collection development challenges strategically beyond the input of faculty

No full textIn \u27El Corregidor at the Crossroads: Desire, Law and Coloniality in Martel\u27s Zama Leisa Kauffmann discusses Lucrecia Martel\u27s filmic adaptation of Antonio DiBenedetto\u27s 1952 novel, Zama. Highlighting the director\u27s emphasis on the psychoanalytic (as opposed to the existentialist) dimensions of the novel, the essay follows the titular characater\u27s unravelling and shows how Martel\u27s film allegorizes colonial(ist) subjectivity. In Kauffmann\u27s essay, various psychoanalytic theories (such as the work of Bhabha, Fanon, and Žižek), and critiques centering the notion of race in the Lacanian tradition are applied. In addition, differences between the novel and film, particularly regarding Zama\u27s mutilation and its aftermath, are discussed. Although the film is the first of Martel\u27s ouevre to center a male protagonist, Kauffmann points out that the issue of masculinity and the agency of women in a colonial context characterized by gender as well as racial and class oppression remain central to Martel\u27s visual and auditory masterpiece
Transnational Politics of Cambodian American Ethnic Organizations: Strategies, Motivations, and Impacts
Get PDFSince several large-scale migrations to the U.S. in the 1970s, Cambodian Americans have established a number of ethnic organizations aimed at intervening in the political landscape of their homeland. These organizations span from subversive groups seeking to overthrow the Cambodian government through armed insurgency to reformist groups advocating for human rights improvements and peaceful political transformation. The refugee experiences of first-generation Cambodian Americans have served as a key motivator for their involvement in transnational politics, while the degree of social integration shapes the extent to which different generational cohorts engage in these political activities. In addition, both the Cambodian government’s response strategies and U.S. foreign policy decisions have significantly influenced the trajectory of these transnational efforts. This transnational politics exerts dual influences, impacting not only Cambodia’s domestic political ecology but also having profound implications for U.S.-Cambodian relations and the development of the Cambodian American community
The Current State of Dimensioning and Tolerancing Pedagogy in United States Post-Secondary Engineering and Engineering Technology Programs
Get PDFDimensioning and tolerancing (D&T) is understood to be a crucial element of the engineering product lifecycle and has been documented as an important skill for various careers, e.g., engineering, design, manufacturing, and metrology. Even so, there is a widely perceived skills gap in today\u27s workforce. In response to this perceived misalignment between employer expectations and student preparation, a survey of post-secondary engineering and engineering technology (ET) degree programs in the United States was conducted to quantitatively characterize the current state of D&T pedagogy. Respondents (n = 67) who identified as being the instructor-of-record for a course(s) that required students to understand, apply, and/or analyze D&T topics were asked to characterize their fitness to teach said course(s), the extent of topical coverage, instructional techniques and challenges, and perceptions of student proficiency. A particular focus was placed on assessing how geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) is integrated into engineering and ET classrooms. Results indicate that D&T is a mandatory component of curricula for approximately three quarters of students, but less than one third consistently receive instruction in GD&T. For what coverage there is, fundamental topics such as datum reference frames and the envelope principle were often rated as of relatively low importance by instructors. Challenges which appear to contribute include limited instructional time, sparse and expensive educational resources, and lacking instructor expertise
Rediscovering Dewey’s Concept of “Inquiry” in Francophone Literature: A Lexicographical Analysis of Scientific Production Pertaining to Education and Training Issues

This article explores the resurgence and application of John Dewey’s concept of “inquiry” within Francophone literature, particularly in the context of education and training. Dewey’s “Theory of Inquiry,” first introduced in 1938, is examined through a comprehensive lexicographical analysis of 291 Frenchlanguage scientific publications. The study identifies six main classes of publications that utilize Dewey’s concept in diverse ways, ranging from philosophical analyses to practical applications in education and professional training. The analysis highlights the varied and evolving uses of the concept, reflecting a dynamic interplay between theoretical foundations and practical implementations. The findings suggest that while Dewey’s theory is increasingly referenced, its applications remain fragmented, necessitating a deeper understanding of its integration into different research contexts. The study provides insights into the scientific dynamics within the Francophone educational research community and proposes further exploration of these trends in the English literature.

Cet article explore la résurgence et l’application du concept de “l’enquête” de John Dewey dans la littérature francophone, en particulier dans le contexte de l’éducation et de la formation. La “Théorie de l’enquête” de Dewey, introduite pour la première fois en 1938, est examinée à travers une analyse lexicographique approfondie de 291 publications scientifiques en langue
française. L’étude identifie six principales classes de publications qui utilisent le concept de Dewey de diverses manières, allant des analyses philosophiques aux applications pratiques dans l’éducation et la formation professionnelle. L’analyse met en lumière les utilisations variées et évolutives du concept, reflétant une interaction dynamique entre les fondements théoriques et les mises en oeuvre pratiques. Les résultats suggèrent que, bien que la théorie de Dewey soit de plus en plus référencée, ses applications restent fragmentées, nécessitant une compréhension plus approfondie de son intégration dans différents contextes de recherche. Beyond Cultural Responsiveness: Elevating African American STEM Education through African-Centered Models
Get PDFResearchers posit that the way science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) are taught to African Americans contributes to their underrepresentation in the STEM fields. STEM educators are increasingly utilizing culturally relevant pedagogy, culturally responsive teaching strategies, and culturally sustaining pedagogy to engage the African American STEM learner. However, these techniques are limited in addressing the holistic development, healing, and needs of African people.[1] This essay advocates for the use and study of a new educational model titled African-centered STEM education (ACSE). The authors contend that this model is effective for African American STEM learners and African people and benefits society as a whole. This essay includes an overview of the culturally relevant pedagogy framework and its variations, an explanation of the ACSE model and its advantages, and descriptions of implementations of the ACSE model and their outcomes.
