Use of Big Data, Artificial Intelligence and other emerging technologies in public health communication campaigns : a systematic review
No full textIntroduction: Public health campaigns have begun to employ various emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and Big Data for their design, implementation, and evaluation. These technologies offer new opportunities to enhance the effectiveness of health communication strategies by enabling more precise audience segmentation, personalized messaging, and real-time impact assessment. However, despite their potential, their application in public health campaigns remains a relatively new field of study. This systematic review aims to identify and analyze the scientific literature that examines the role of these tools in optimizing communication strategies aimed at promoting healthy behaviors and attitudes among the population. Methods: Following the PRISMA methodology, 129 potentially relevant articles were initially identified from the search in the WOS, Scopus and PubMed databases. However, only 18 met the established inclusion criteria. Results: We identified a scarcity of scientific articles focused on presenting findings on the application of emerging technologies in public health campaigns. Most of the research focused on the use of these tools for audience segmentation and impact assessment, while their use in campaign design was a minority. Conclusions: This study supports the usefulness of the application of these technologies at any stage of the campaign implementation process, and presents some limitations that can help optimize this approach and improve the reach and effectiveness of public health communication strategies
Las actividades comerciales en el espacio y el régimen jurídico del turismo espacial
No full textAunque en los inicios de la era espacial durante las décadas de los sesenta y los setenta era difícil concebir la presencia humana en el espacio fuera de la iniciativa y financiación de los gobiernos nacionales, hoy día personas que no son astronautas profesionales o no disponen de financiación pública tienen la posibilidad de acceder al espacio, realizando vuelos orbitales o suborbitales e incluso estancias en instalaciones en órbita, como la Estación Espacial Internacional. Es lo que se conoce como turismo espacial, cuyos protagonistas en la actualidad son Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (SpaceX), Virgin Galactic y Blue Origin.
La obra, dirigida a especialistas en el Derecho espacial, ofrece un tratamiento integral de la materia. Analiza no solo el marco legal de las actividades comerciales en el espacio, sino también el régimen de autorización del transporte espacial de personas, los modelos de turismo orbital con o sin estancia en instalaciones en órbita, de turismo suborbital y de turismo en globo estratosférico, así como el estatuto jurídico del turista espacial y la responsabilidad civil de las empresas espaciales en relación con el transporte de personas, tanto en la normativa internacional como en la europea y en la nacional estadounidense, británica, francesa, italiana, portuguesa y española.La presente publicación se inscribe en el marco del proyecto de investigación "Navegación, Transporte y Nuevas Tecnologías (Responsabilidad, Security and Safety)", referencia CIAICO/2023/01
Effects of gender stereotypes on information processing and cognitive performance
No full textThis thesis investigates how gender stereotypes shape cognitive processes, focusing on two interrelated dimensions: the association between gender and social status, and the impact of gender-science stereotypes in STEM. Studies 1 and 2 examined how implicit associations linking men with high-status and women with low-status professions influence memory. Participants completed the Implicit Association Test (IAT) and a memory task with masculine and feminine forms of high- and low-status professions. Participants remembered feminine forms of high-status professions less accurately and produced fewer false recalls, while the opposite pattern emerged for masculine forms. Memory biases were correlated with IAT scores and strongest under incidental encoding. Study 3 examined how activating stereotypes about women’s lower math ability affected engineering students in a math task. Stereotype threat reduced women’s confidence and performance while enhancing men’s, particularly among those with stronger gender-science associations. Overall, the studies reveal the deep and persistent impact of gender stereotypes.Programa de Doctorat en Psicologi

While engagement is often seen as positive, the research shows that it can also have unintended negative effects on employee well-being. By investigating these connections in depth, the study sheds light on how emotional demands at work may influence the experience of engagement and its outcomes. The findings offer useful insights for both scholars and practitioners, highlighting the need for a more balanced approach when promoting engagement in the workplace. Meditation instruction to induce self-meta-thinking and its inhibitory effect on emotional reactivity and social judgment
No full textCompendi d'articles, Doctorat internacionalEn esta tesis se examina cómo la instrucción meditativa influye en el metapensamiento del self y cómo este, a su vez, regula la reactividad emocional y el juicio social, tomando como referencia teórica la Terror Management Theory (TMT) (Greenberg et al., 1986). En concreto, se analiza el efecto del contacto físico como estrategia para traer la conciencia al momento presente. Se muestra cómo el entrenamiento en mindfulness (MT) favorece la autorregulación de pensamientos amenazantes, disminuyendo el juicio y las reacciones defensivas consecuentes. Y, se propone que ciertas prácticas meditativas favorecen un self prominente pero no egoísta, capaz de realizar conductas prosociales o altruistas. Los resultados obtenidos respaldan las hipótesis. Estos hallazgos aportan una nueva perspectiva sobre los efectos psicosociales de la meditación, mostrando su capacidad como herramienta para promover actitudes más tolerantes y conscientes, así como para regular las respuestas defensivas frente a amenazas simbólicas en contextos personales y comunitarios.Programa de Doctorat en Psicologi
Taking advantage of zoophytophagous-induced plant defenses to improve pest management in horticultural crops
No full textCompendi d'articlesThe growing global demand for food and the increasing challenges posed by climate change call for the development of innovative and sustainable strategies to enhance crop resilience against biotic and abiotic stressors. Harnessing natural plant defense mechanisms presents a promising alternative to conventional pest management, reducing reliance on chemical pesticides. This thesis explores the role of zoophytophagous predators and herbivore-induced plant volatiles (HIPVs) in strengthening plant defenses and improving pest management. We investigate Nesidiocoris tenuis, a biological control agent, and its ability to enhance constitutive resistance in tomato plants. Our findings reveal that N. tenuis feeding induces the formation of type IV glandular trichomes and acylsugar production, mediated by jasmonic acid signaling, thereby improving resistance against whiteflies. Additionally, we assess the effects of (Z)-3-hexenyl propanoate [(Z)-3-HP], a green leaf volatile, on sweet pepper plants. Our findings reveal that (Z)-3-HP exposure upregulates key defense-related genes, enhances resistance to herbivorous pests and abiotic stress, boosts antioxidant activity, and improves plant adaptability to water-deficit conditions. By integrating natural enemies and HIPVs, this research advances sustainable pest management strategies that reinforce plant resilience while reducing environmental impact.Programa de Doctorat en Cièncie
Fístulas arteriovenosas endovasculares. Una nueva opción para los pacientes en hemodiálisis.
No full textCompendi d'articlesLa tesis doctoral gira en torno a los resultados obtenido con la utilización de un nuevo sistema endovascular para la realización de fístulas arteriovenosas en los pacientes en hemodiálisis. Se trata de una tesis por compendio de publicaciones en la que se han incluido un total de 4 publicaciones. Una de ellas se trata de un estudio prospectivo descriptivo de los resultados obtenidos durante el primer año de seguimiento tras su realización. Otro de ellos compara prospectivamente los resultados de estas fistulas endovasculares con fistulas realizadas de manera quirúrgica a lo largo de un año tras su realización. El tercero se trata de una revisión sistemática de la literatura en la que se observa la disparidad de género que se encuentran en la utilización de estos dispositivos a pesar de tratarse de métodos novedosos y el último de ellos es un caso clínico que ejemplifica los beneficios que podrían tener dichos sistemas mínimamente invasivos.The doctoral thesis focuses on the results obtained using a new endovascular system to create arteriovenous fistulas in hemodialysis patients. It is a thesis by a compendium of publications, which includes four papers. One of them is a prospective descriptive study of the outcomes during the first year of follow-up after the procedure. Another is a prospective comparison of the results of these endovascular fistulas versus surgically created fistulas over a one-year follow-up period. The third is a systematic review of the literature, highlighting the gender disparity observed in the use of these devices, despite being innovative methods. The final publication is a clinical case that illustrates the potential benefits of these minimally invasive systems.Programa de Doctorat en Cièncie
Masculinidades en escena: dominio y deconstrucción en el concurso de agrupaciones del carnaval de Cádiz

Curs acadèmic 2024-2025El Concurso de Agrupaciones del Carnaval de Cádiz (COAC) es mucho más que un certamen de coplas local asociado a una actividad festiva. Se trata de un fenómeno de masas y un espacio donde las agrupaciones participantes, además de competir con repertorios originales, representan, negocian y disputan significados de género que han
sido construidos socialmente y que, por tanto, son modificables.
El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar los distintos modelos de masculinidad que se proyectan desde el escenario del Gran Teatro Falla de Cádiz, epicentro del concurso, con el propósito de identificar y profundizar en sus representaciones igualitarias. Para tal fin, se ha elaborado un marco teórico desde los estudios de género, con las aportaciones de Raewyn Connell, Judith Butler, George L. Mosse y José Miguel G. Cortés, aplicadas a una metodología de observación cualitativa que también se apoya en el Análisis Crítico del Discurso (ACD) de Teun A. Van Dijk.
La copla, género literario propio, constituye la categoría principal del análisis, junto al tipo (el “otro yo carnavalesco”), la música, la puesta en escena y la gestualidad. El estudio se centra en una muestra representativa de agrupaciones entre 1990 y 2025, cuyas propuestas, difundidas por los medios y amplificadas en redes sociales, proyectan modelos de masculinidad, feminidad y otras identidades que hoy se validan o cuestionan ante audiencias cada vez más amplias y participativas.
El análisis permite concluir que el COAC no constituye un espacio neutral: reproduce las jerarquías del orden de género dominante en la sociedad occidental europea, marcado por el androcentrismo y la heteronormatividad, al tiempo que configura un régimen interno condicionado por estructuras de poder masculinizadas y normas sin perspectiva de género.
La irrupción del discurso feminista en el certamen ha abierto un proceso de interpelación al sistema sexo-género que visibiliza desigualdades y favorece el surgimiento, aún incipiente, de masculinidades subordinadas en agrupaciones de hombres que se distancian de la norma patriarcal dominante.
Este carácter dinámico y construido de la masculinidad abre la posibilidad de intervenir desde la sensibilización y la pedagogía, incidiendo de forma positiva en la organización y desarrollo del concurso. Se trata de aprovechar la capacidad del COAC para sumar a los hombres, sin confrontación, a otras formas de sentir y expresar su masculinidad en clave igualitaria. Entre las medidas propuestas se incluye un reconocimiento público a las agrupaciones que encarnen este modelo, promoviendo así referentes que amplían la libertad creativa y las narrativas humorísticas, para proyectar al Carnaval de Cádiz, en su proceso de reconocimiento por la UNESCO como Patrimonio Cultural Inmaterial de la Humanidad, como una expresión cultural con capacidad transformadora en clave de justicia social
Physical activity induced functional and structural changes in the Hippocampus and the Reward System
No full textCompendi d'articles, Doctorat internacionalThis thesis explores the effects of physical activity (PA) on the brain of young adults through four empirical studies that examine both structural and functional changes associated with regular and acute exercise. By combining accelerometry, self-reports, cognitive testing, and neuroimaging techniques, the relationship between PA, mood, cognition, and individual variables such as personality and physical fitness is investigated. The results show that regions such as the hippocampus and the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) are particularly sensitive to activity and sedentary levels, and that this relationship is modulated by individual differences. Furthermore, immediate effects of acute exercise on medial temporal lobe connectivity are observed, along with a reduction in hippocampal volume after only 14 days of inactivity. Taken together, these findings highlight the high brain plasticity in young adults and the relevance of regular PA for neurocognitive health.Programa de Doctorat en Psicologi
