New quantum codes from homothetic-BCH codes
We introduce homothetic-BCH codes. These are a family of q2-ary classical codes C of
length λn1, where λ and n1 are suitable positive integers such that the punctured code B of
C in the last λn1 − n1 coordinates is a narrow-sense BCH code of length n1. We prove that
whenever B is Hermitian self-orthogonal, so is C. As a consequence, we present a procedure
to obtain quantum stabilizer codes with lengths that cannot be reached by BCH codes. With
this procedure, we get new quantum codes according to Grassl’s table (Grassl 2025). To prove
our results, we give necessary and sufficient conditions for Hermitian self-orthogonality of
BCH codes of a wide range of lengthsFunding for open access charge: CRUE-Universitat Jaume

This study analyzes the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on psychosocial risks and work engagement in a fast-food franchise, comparing pre- (2018–2019) and post-pandemic (2021–2022) data. Using the FPSICO 4.0 risk assessment and the UWES-9 engagement survey, the study also examines the moderating role of demographic (sex, age) and job-related (position) variables. ANOVA results revealed a significant post-pandemic increase in psychosocial risks, particularly in working time, autonomy, variety and content, participation, and supervision. Women and younger workers experienced a greater negative impact on psychosocial risks and well-being. In contrast, older employees showed reduced risk levels. Team members were more affected than managerial staff. The findings highlight the psychosocial consequences of the pandemic in high-turnover, low-autonomy work environments, and identify key vulnerability and resilience factors that can inform organizational interventions and public policy focused on occupational mental health in post-crisis contexts.
Analysis, development and experimental evaluation of ultra-low temperature cascade refrigeration systems with natural refrigerants
Doctorat internacionalRefrigeration is essential for preserving sensitive products by maintaining temperatures below ambient. Vapor compression cycles are the standard method, but their efficiency drops as the temperature lift increases. Ultra-low temperature (ULT) applications, such as vaccine or biomedical storage, require significant temperature differences, making conventional systems inefficient and environmentally harmful. This thesis proposes a more sustainable solution using a cascade vapor compression cycle with natural refrigerants R290 (propane) and R170 (ethane). A detailed theoretical analysis identifies critical points, particularly at the expansion valve inlet, addressed by incorporating an interstage heat exchanger. An experimental prototype confirms the theoretical results, achieving COP improvements of up to 40 % at −70 °C and 20 % at −80 °C compared to the R404A/R23 baseline. The natural refrigerant pair also delivers greater cooling capacity with a lower mass flow rate and reduces CO₂-equivalent emissions by 37 %. These findings highlight the technical and environmental potential of natural refrigerants in ULT systems.Programa de Doctorat en Tecnologies Industrials i Material
Subtypes of suicidal ideation among university students – An ecological momentary assessment study
Background
Suicide is a leading cause of death among youth ages 15 to 29. This study identifies suicidal ideation (SI) subtypes among university students based on daily reports of SI, assesses how stress sensitivity may affect SI variability within these subtypes, and how they differ in terms of past and future self-injurious thoughts and behaviors (SITB).
Methods
756 students participated in a 14-day ecological momentary assessment and web-based survey at baseline and 12-month follow-up. Latent Profile Analysis identified SI subtypes using indicators of intensity, variability and frequency. Multinomial regressions evaluated the associations between SITB and SI subtypes, as well between SI subtypes and future SITB. Linear models assessed how stress sensitivity was associated to SI variability within the subtypes.
Results
Three SI subtypes were identified: sporadic and low intensity/variability (S1), frequent and medium intensity/variability (S2), and frequent and high intensity/variability (S3). Stress sensitivity was highest in S2 and S3, in S3 higher stress sensitivity was associated with lower day-to-day variability. Nearly all aORs for SITB significantly increased from S1 to S3 compared to controls, with each subtype showing higher aORs compared to the previous subtype (S3 vs, S2 vs S1). S3 students showed higher persistence of suicidal thoughts and behaviors at follow-up (aOR = 20.6; 95 % CI = 8.3–51.2), with 4 of the 7 attempts occurring among students in this subtype.
Conclusions
Daily SI severity predicts future active SI and attempts, with stress sensitivity contributing to more extreme, rigid suicidal thinking. Targeting stress sensitivity could be effective for suicide prevention among university students
Porn[Time]: study of cognitive processes related to problematic pornography use
Compendi d'articles, Doctorat internacionalCurrently, pornography consumption is one of the most prevalent online activities, increasing scientific interest in understanding its effects. In particular, the possibility of developing a pattern of abusive consumption, i.e., problematic pornography use (PPU), is one of the main concern. Therefore, in recent years, part of the literature has focused on the study of the mechanisms and factors involved in the onset and maintenance of PPU. However, evidence remains scarce, especially regarding the involvement of cognitive processes. This doctoral thesis aims to shed light on this issue by studying the involvement and etiological role of attentional inhibitory control, time perception processes, and subjective sexual arousal in PPU and other online problematic behaviors: gaming disorder and problematic binge-watching. Some of the main findings question the theoretical premises that place cognitive and executive processes as central etiopathological factors in problematic online behavior.

The objective of the study was to culturally adapt and validate the GCPC-UN instrument to measure the burden of chronic disease in adults from a city in Veracruz, Mexico. Additionally, the burden was analyzed according to the type of disease, quality of life, and sociodemographic variables. This was an observational, cross-sectional, and quantitative study, in which the previously validated GCPC-UN instrument was applied. The validation showed a McDonald's Omega of 0.986 for the 46 items. A negative correlation was identified between quality of life domains and the dimensions of disease burden. The main predictors of burden were the frequency of need for care support, the Charlson comorbidity index, and the type of chronic disease. It is concluded that the GCPC-UN is a reliable and useful instrument for assessing disease burden in adults with chronic conditions, and its use is recommended in nursing practice.
Practice experience plays an essential role in the undergraduate education of nurses. Students' perceptions of their practice environment and the self-perception of their preparedness to work in that environment are highlighted in the literature as relevant factors. A descriptive, cross-sectional, correlational study of undergraduate nursing students at a university in the East of England was conducted to examine participants' perceived level of competence and its relationship to the clinical practice environment. A positive association was found between environment and level of competence. There were significant differences in self-perceived competence between the groups. Nursing students rate their practice environment favourably, and this influences their overall positive perception of their level of competence. Further exploration of these findings in different groups of students would be advisable.
Splintered Heaven: Creating a videogame that combines Visual Novel and Real Time Strategy genres
Codi: VJ1241. Curs acadèmic: 2024-2025Splintered Heaven aims to combine the deep narrative of the Visual Novel genre with the flexibility of Real Time Strategy (RTS) to make the player feel like the game is responsive to their actions. The story has a focus on the horrors of war, trying to convey an antibelicist message, and utilizes moral dilemas to inmerse the player in the experience, making them feel the weight of their decision making.
Because developing a full game of this characteristics would have been impossible in a few months, this proyect presents a small section of the overall story that serves as a demo of what the full game would be like. This proyect has been developed as a collaborative effort along with student Alejandro Arévalo Arenas, sharing the work load equally. I will expatiate on the work distribution and other details in the planifcation chapter
