A nonparametric test of independence between the second-order structure of point patterns and covariates
No full textWe introduce a novel nonparametric method for testing the hypothesis of independence between a marked point process with
functional marks and a covariate. In a special case, when the functional marks are constructed using the local indicator of
spatial association (LISA) functions, it results in testing the second-order intensity reweighted stationarity (SOIRS) hypothesis
against a specific alternative that is determined by a chosen covariate. SOIRS is often used as a convenient assumption in
analysing point patterns, but a general formal test of the SOIRS hypothesis is not available in the literature. Our simulation
experiments indicate that the proposed test performs well both in size and power. The practical application of the proposed

While engagement is often seen as positive, the research shows that it can also have unintended negative effects on employee well-being. By investigating these connections in depth, the study sheds light on how emotional demands at work may influence the experience of engagement and its outcomes. The findings offer useful insights for both scholars and practitioners, highlighting the need for a more balanced approach when promoting engagement in the workplace. Effects of gender stereotypes on information processing and cognitive performance
No full textThis thesis investigates how gender stereotypes shape cognitive processes, focusing on two interrelated dimensions: the association between gender and social status, and the impact of gender-science stereotypes in STEM. Studies 1 and 2 examined how implicit associations linking men with high-status and women with low-status professions influence memory. Participants completed the Implicit Association Test (IAT) and a memory task with masculine and feminine forms of high- and low-status professions. Participants remembered feminine forms of high-status professions less accurately and produced fewer false recalls, while the opposite pattern emerged for masculine forms. Memory biases were correlated with IAT scores and strongest under incidental encoding. Study 3 examined how activating stereotypes about women’s lower math ability affected engineering students in a math task. Stereotype threat reduced women’s confidence and performance while enhancing men’s, particularly among those with stronger gender-science associations. Se trata de una tesis por compendio de publicaciones en la que se han incluido un total de 4 publicaciones. Una de ellas se trata de un estudio prospectivo descriptivo de los resultados obtenidos durante el primer año de seguimiento tras su realización. Otro de ellos compara prospectivamente los resultados de estas fistulas endovasculares con fistulas realizadas de manera quirúrgica a lo largo de un año tras su realización. El tercero se trata de una revisión sistemática de la literatura en la que se observa la disparidad de género que se encuentran en la utilización de estos dispositivos a pesar de tratarse de métodos novedosos y el último de ellos es un caso clínico que ejemplifica los beneficios que podrían tener dichos sistemas mínimamente invasivos.The doctoral thesis focuses on the results obtained using a new endovascular system to create arteriovenous fistulas in hemodialysis patients. It is a thesis by a compendium of publications, which includes four papers. One of them is a prospective descriptive study of the outcomes during the first year of follow-up after the procedure. Another is a prospective comparison of the results of these endovascular fistulas versus surgically created fistulas over a one-year follow-up period. The third is a systematic review of the literature, highlighting the gender disparity observed in the use of these devices, despite being innovative methods. How does the work context impact us throughout life? A multilevel approach to the interaction between work context and age
No full textThe aging population presents a demographic challenge that necessitates a multidisciplinary approach. This demographic shift is also transforming the work domain. The age range within teams and organizations is broadening, resulting in increased diversity in experience, cultural values, strengths, and vulnerabilities that creates complex work scenarios that can affect organizational outcomes and workers’ well-being. Work and organizational researchers have contributed to disclose this challenge primarily by adopting a lifespan developmental approach, yielding valuable insights into the relationships between aging and work. However, research indicates that age alone, along with its associated changes, is not a sufficient explanation for these phenomena and additional factors must be considered. Particularly, there is a necessity of further research on the effects of work environment, as individuals’ lifespan changes that impact work-related outcomes, might be more or less adaptive depending on the work context. This dissertation aims to provide empirical evidence of cross-level interactive effects between age and teams' contextual features that might impact key work outcomes related to well-being and performance. Specifically, three contextual dimensions are studied in relation to age: first, teams' age diversity; second, contextual emotional job demands; and third, contextual role ambiguity. Novel neutral and ionic metal-organic frameworks for sustainable catalytic processes
No full textThis thesis explores new strategies for designing and enhancing the chemical reactivity of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) to convert waste into valuable chemical products. MOFs were synthesized in combination with 3D-printed polymers and ionic liquids, forming composite materials with improved catalytic performance due to the high dispersion of active sites. Functionalization was achieved by anchoring amino acids to the MOFs, creating multifunctional materials under mild, environmentally friendly conditions using non-toxic, abundant metals and bio-based ligands. Various synthesis methods based on classical, solvent-assisted, and rapid green, onepot approaches were used to develop and characterize these materials. The resulting MOFs were effective in reactions relevant to waste valorization, such as CO₂ fixation and carbonyl activation, operating under mild conditions without additives. The materials demonstrated superior activity, stability, and reusability, aligning with principles of green and circular chemistry, and contributing to the development of advanced heterogeneous catalysts for sustainable chemical processes.Programa de Doctorat en Química Sostenibl
