Art Historical Research of the Intercession of Christ and the Virgin, Attributed to Lorenzo Monaco
Get PDFThis research examines The Intercession of Christ and the Virgin, a painting attributed to Lorenzo Monaco. The painting is tempera on canvas, and is housed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This research looks at the painting through a phenomenological lens in context of its original site, iconographic themes, and feminine spirituality. The research posits that the painting’s intercessory figures—Christ and the Virgin Mary—construct a narrative amplifying themes of feminine spirituality, challenging the misogynistic structures of quattrocento Florentine ecclesiastical culture while remaining within the bounds of contemporary orthodoxy. Studying the painting at Metropolitan Museum facilitated in-depth visual analysis, supplemented by an in depth literature review of medieval texts about the double intercession, and peer-reviewed articles containing information about the painting. The study advances three hypotheses: (1) the painting’s proposed system of hierarchy emphasizes Marian intercession, (2) its potential reception by female spectators subverts gendered devotional norms, and (3) its original spatial context would underline themes of entrance and exit, which might be important for deepening devotion. These claims address lacunae in existing scholarship, which has overlooked The Intercession of Christ and the Virgin’s spatial considerations and its implications for feminine devotion and spirituality. By showing the painting\u27s potential for highlighting these themes, this research explores the potential for the Virgin Mary to articulate feminine spiritual power to medieval women
Designing Accessible and Dependable Tools for Vocational Rehabilitation Data Analysis
Get PDFSince 1973, the U.S. Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA) has partnered with state vocational rehabilitation (VR) agencies to help individuals with disabilities achieve meaningful employment and independence. RSA-911 datasets play a crucial role in this effort by capturing detailed participant data, but their complexity can hinder effective analysis.
To simplify this process, we present an R software package to streamline the cleaning and analysis of RSA-911 and Transition Readiness Toolkit (TRT) data, a new measure of program effectiveness. We also deliver a user-friendly dashboard, empowering both VR researchers and counselors with the opportunity to conduct analyses. Using our developed tools, we explore the relationships between RSA-911 and TRT data, providing insights into the expanding TRT initiative.
Together, our tools enhance efficiency, accessibility, and reproducibility in VR data analysis. Freely available and compatible with any RSA-911 and TRT dataset, our software provides a flexible framework for VR research, fostering consistency and adaptability while supporting future studies
A Randomized Controlled Trial of Self-Help Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Perfectionism
Get PDFMany college students are struggling with perfectionism, a tendency to set extremely high standards for themselves, which can lead to stress and dissatisfaction. We looked at whether self-help books based on two different types of therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), can help reduce unhelpful perfectionism. We looked at how well ACT and CBT self-help books worked for reducing perfectionism, compared to students who did not receive either book. College students in the study completed surveys at the beginning, halfway through, after finishing the book, and again one month later. We found that students who read the ACT and CBT self-help books saw improvements in managing perfectionism, stress, and emotional well-being compared to those who were in the waitlist group. ACT also helped students become more flexible in how they approached unhelpful thoughts, showing greater improvement in this area than CBT. Most students found the self-help books helpful and engaged with the readings throughout the study. These findings suggest that self-help books may be an accessible and effective way to help people reduce perfectionism and improve their mental health

Integrating Human-Centered Design into Undergraduate STEM Capstone Courses: A Food Product Development Case Study
Get PDFThis study examines the integration of human-centered design (HCD) in a Food Science capstone course and explores its impact on students’ learning outcomes and skill development. This case study investigated how 42 undergraduate students engaged with HCD processes—including understanding, synthesizing, ideating, prototyping, and implementing—to develop innovative food products. Through pre- and post-surveys, interaction analysis, and performance assessments, the findings revealed that HCD activities significantly enhanced students’ knowledge, collaboration, creativity, and metacognitive skills. Additionally, students demonstrated improved food science competencies, such as product formulation and sensory evaluation. This study highlights the benefits of embedding HCD within STEM curricula to foster authentic, interdisciplinary learning experiences. The findings provide evidence-based recommendations for scaling HCD integration in applied STEM courses, emphasizing the need for structured scaffolds and iterative feedback to maximize learning outcomes
Making Visible Leadership Characteristics and Actions in Fostering Collective Teacher Efficacy: A Cross-Case Study
Get PDFPoverty can contribute to students\u27 struggles with academic success, yet these struggles may be mitigated in schools with high levels of collective teacher efficacy (CTE). The purpose of this study was to identify effective Title I-eligible schools, serving a high percentage of financially disadvantaged students, while also maintaining high levels of CTE. Two schools were selected for cross-case analysis to explore how leadership characteristics and actions nurtured and sustained schoolwide CTE. The methodology used in this study was a qualitative cross-case analysis. The researchers purposefully selected the schools as cases based on the level of CTE existing in the schools. The qualitative cases provided means of determining how CTE was nurtured and sustained in the exemplary schools. These findings have substantial significance for educational leaders at the school, district, university, and state levels. The results identified element characteristics and actions of instructional leaders to actuate CTE, increased teacher confidence and more significant collaborative relationships in schools. This study supports existing CTE research regarding connections between CTE and shared leadership, and CTE and trust among faculty
