The Digital Dairy Diary: Exploring the Emotional Responses of Utah Social Media Users to Dairy Content

    Get PDF
Social media is powerful in distributing information and helping society to develop perceptions and sentiments. Social media can be a useful tool in community agriculture. However, without an understanding of the emotions held by social media users concerning the dairy content on social media, ag educators can’t effectively use social media as an educational tool

Impacts of Reef Fish Length on Foraging Radius: Exploring Behavioral Patterns Within a Patch Reef Ecosystem

    Get PDF
Introduction Coral reefs support high levels of marine biodiversity Patch reefs serve as vital refuges for small fish. Predation risk shapes how far fish stray from their reef, creating a “foraging radius”— the maximum distance traveled before retreating. Absolute swimming speed in fish increases with body size (1). Therefore, larger fish may travel farther away from their refuge to forage over greater areas This study tested the following question: Does a reef fish’s length influence how far it travels from its patch reef refuge

Protection Concept for Foamed Radar-Absorbing Sandwich Composites With High-Conductive Film Against Lightning Strike Impacts

    No full text
This paper presents a foamed radar-absorbing sandwich composite using Ni-plated glass fiber, serving as a dielectric loss material and a high-conductive film for lightning strike protection (LSP). Image processing found that surface damage area was reduced by 38.7% in high-conductive films compared to those without. Furthermore, micro-X-ray CT revealed no critical damage, such as fiber breakage, deeper than the film. Moreover, specimens without high-conductive film experienced a 38.7% decrease in -10 dB bandwidth after the lightning strike (LS) test, while high-conductive film specimens maintained a -10 dB bandwidth. The proposed structure offers high radar-absorbing performance, effectively protecting the structure from lightning

ACT-Enhanced Peer Coaching for Online ACT Self-Help: Feasibility and Acceptability With College Students

    No full text
Objective: This secondary analysis examined the feasibility and acceptability of a novel peer coaching model designed to improve adherence to an online self-help program based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), called ACT Guide. Participants: All participants (N = 152) and peer coaches were undergraduate students attending the same university. Methods: Participants were instructed to use ACT Guide for 10 weeks and were randomly assigned to receive weekly peer coaching through either phone calls or text messaging. Results: We found our peer coaching model to be feasible for delivery via phone and text, however acceptability varied widely. Phone coaching performed significantly better than the text format. Conclusions: Our results support the feasibility of using peer coaching with a college student population, particularly when delivered through phone calls. However, peer coaching was only acceptable to a subset of students, potentially due to differences in level of need and individual preferences

Attachment, Emotional Experiencing, and Physiological Response During Couple Interaction

    Get PDF
In this master’s thesis, I conducted a study using data from 63 hetereosexual couples from a previous research study done by Dr. Ryan Seedall. These couples participated in a micro-intervention where each partner discussed personal issues for three to four minutes while the other received guidance on supportive responses, promoting open communication. Using this data, I conducted a coding project studying the relationship between attachment styles and emotional experiencing, specifically how attachment styles intersect with emotional experiences, moment-to-moment feelings, and physiological arousal. This coding project involved utilizing the Emotional Experiencing Scale (EXP) by Klein and colleagues (1986) to observe couple interactions. Results indicated that higher attachment anxiety correlated with increased emotional experiences during discussions, especially when both partners had high anxiety. Conversely, those with high attachment avoidance showed less emotional engagement regarding their partner\u27s issues. Securely attached individuals experienced greater emotional peaks, particularly when male partners engaged positively in discussions about early childhood. Additionally, men with higher emotional involvement displayed significant physiological arousal, while women with greater emotional engagement reported more positive feelings and higher relationship satisfaction

Toward a Construct-Based Definition of Urban Green Space: A Literature Review of the Spatial Dimensions of Measurement, Methods, and Exposure

    Get PDF
Interdisciplinary research has significantly advanced our understanding, benefits, and measurements of Urban Green Space (UGS). Further, the rapid expansion of research on this topic has resulted in a diverse array of definitions, which can rely on implicit assumptions without a formal definition. This variability highlights the need for a carefully structured framework to refine and combine these definitions. This narrative review examines constructs underlying UGS, particularly focusing on the spatial aspects of how we spatially measure UGS, the measurements of UGS, and how we define exposure; the latter focuses on two methods: viewsheds and image segmentation. Our findings reveal a shift in UGS measurement focus, moving beyond simple quantification of how much green space exists, to incorporate visibility, accessibility, and availability dimensions. Furthermore, advancements in computational tools, including artificial intelligence-driven methods, now enable high-resolution visibility measurements on a city-wide scale, supporting epidemiological research and urban development. These insights aim to guide researchers and practitioners in selecting suitable methodologies and datasets, as well as explicitly defining UGS in their work through a construct-based approach

Ethics of Care: Applying Cultural Protocols to Indigenous Sound Recordings

    Get PDF
The University of New Mexico, College of University Libraries and Library Sciences, endorsed The Protocols for Native American Archival Materials in 2020. This case study explores the use of an Ethics of Care approach, prioritizing Indigenous cultural protocols for Indigenous sound recordings housed within the archival collections of the Center for Southwest Research and Special Collections (CSWR). The CSWR staff sought guidance from local tribal nations when CSWR patrons requested the duplication of cultural songs, cultural oral histories, and/or interviews. Tribal Historic Preservation Offices, tribal cultural rights departments, and specified tribal persons identified by tribes as cultural experts reviewed the materials in question before the requests were fulfilled. The reviews started conversations and educated the CSWR about the content of the recordings and the utility of the information within the context of tribal cultural practice. This case study will focus on the application of cultural protocols and the management of Indigenous sound recordings. It will also focus on the need for archives to respectfully apply Indigenous provenance in cases where cultural recordings need attention not initially addressed when the collection was acquired

Assessing the State of Archives and Archives Workers in the California State University

    Get PDF
This article presents findings from an environmental scan of archival work at California State University (CSU), the largest public university system in the United States. Using an online survey to collect qualitative and quantitative data, the researchers were able to create a snapshot of the current state of the archives across the CSU system\u27s campuses. This included information about staffing, compensation, collections, duties and responsibilities, and budgets, as well as challenges. While all of the archival workers are part of the same university system, there were many differences in staffing levels, staff and faculty ranks, budgets, and duties assigned to the workers across the different campuses. These differences and challenges suggest that more research is needed to create better equity and opportunities for collaboration across the university system. This research will be of interest to other archival workers in large, geographically dispersed university systems, and archives workers across the western US in academic and other institutions
