    Measuring the Dynamics of Snowflakes

    Get PDF
Transport dynamics of small spherical particles are reasonably understood. However, there is a lack of research on the impacts of how a snowflake’s shape or morphology affects fall speed

Motherhood Within the Patriarchal Family: An Analysis of \u3ci\u3eFrankenstein\u3c/i\u3e and \u3ci\u3eThe Scarlet Letter\u3c/i\u3e

    Get PDF
Frankenstein and The Scarlet Letter critique the typical patriarchal family mold. • Frankenstein critiques the gender inequalities within motherhood and creation, reimagining the family by removing the mother figure. • Hawthorne critiques the patriarchal treatment of women by creating an all- women family structure, arguing that households can survive with a sole mother figure. • Although he does not offer an alternative family model like Shelley, Hawthorne attempts to recreate the female role. • Both of their arguments are informed by biographical aspects, as Shelley and Hawthorne had—according to patriarchal society—atypical mothers. • Their alternative family models are highly relevant today, as we still live in a patriarchal society that continues to advertise the existence of a domestic and public sphere

    Audiovisual Translation Bridges Cultural Gaps

    Get PDF
Audiovisual translation includes dubbing, subtitling, surtitling, and voiceover of media. Each variation has different implications and considerations considered in the translation. • Subtitling/Surtitling requires condensing of dialog and descriptive messaging to fit in the space. Translators may choose to adapt the message to the target audience or not. • Dubbing/Voiceover requires creative solutions to match up the translation with the exact timing of the original gestures and body language. More domestication of the message is required to make the media flow for the target audience in the same way it flows for the original audience

Estimating Equivalent Annual Costs: A Comparative Analysis of Electric and Traditional Roadways

    Get PDF
As electric vehicle (EV) adoption increases, new infrastructure like Electric Road Systems (ERS)—which wirelessly charge EVs while driving—is being explored. While promising, ERS are more expensive to build and maintain than traditional roads. Because U.S. roads are primarily funded by taxpayers, this project explores: • Traditional roadway costs and ERS costs • Ways to recover that investment in a sustainable, fair way

Measuring Small Currents at Fast Speeds Using a 2\u3csup\u3end\u3c/sup\u3e Generation Electrometer

    Get PDF
The Electron Emission Test (EET) chamber in the Utah State University Materials Physics Group (MPG) is used to determine the electron yield of highly insulating materials. An electrometer is employed alongside the EET chamber to measure the output current of 10-6 to 10-14 pulses of 10-7 seconds to DC duration. In previous years, a first- generation electrometer was used for these measurements. However, the introduction of a new electrometer presents an opportunity to achieve faster measurement speeds and improved sensitivity to smaller current values
