Perspectives on Water Policies and Alternative Land Uses Among Alfalfa Farmers in the Great Salt Lake Basin
Climate change threatens many resources necessary for life. In arid and semiarid regions like Utah, water represents one of the key climate-related conflicts (1,2). In Utah, a changing climate paired with human overconsumption has contributed to the drying of the Great Salt Lake. Rising temperatures will lead to greater evapotranspiration and decreasing headwater streamflow and groundwater storage, resulting in increasing dryness in the Great Salt Lake Basin regardless of human water consumption (3). This in turn threatens the ecosystems, economies, and cultures of the Great Salt Lake Basin, accelerating the local impacts of climate change (4)

Hybrid Conferences as the Standard Offering of Archival Organizations
This case study documents the effort to plan and execute a fully hybrid annual meeting for the Society of Southwest Archivists in 2023. By making the conference accessible to both in-person and virtual attendees, the society moved toward greater inclusivity and equity by offering a professional development opportunity that was affordable and within the ability of a volunteer organization. The case study provides a blueprint for any archival organization to follow in creating hybrid meetings
Winter Supplementation of Beef Cows in the Intermountain West
Feed costs are the most significant expense of most ranching operations in the Intermountain West. Year-round grazing opportunities, hay cost and availability, calving season, cow size, milk production, and feeding logistics are all considerations in a supplementation program. The key to effective winter feeding is to balance the cost/benefit ratio of the supplementation programs while meeting nutritional demands at a minimal cost
Reconstruction of Water Storage Variability in the Aral Sea Region
The Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) mission, operational from 2002 to 2017, provided critical measurements of Earth\u27s gravity field anomalies which have been extensively used to study groundwater and terrestrial water storage (TWS) dynamics. In this research, we utilize GRACE data to identify, model, and analyze potential climate parameters contributing to the reconstruction of TWS variability in the Aral Sea Basin region (ASB). We assess the impact of climate change and anthropogenic nature management on TWS change using a quantitative method. Our analysis reveals a significant decline in the TWS at a rate of 0.44 cm year-1 during the 2005–2009 period, primarily attributed to the prevailing drought conditions in the region. Notably, the estimated impact of anthropogenic influence on TWS during the same period of –1.39 cm year-1 is higher than the influence of climatic variables, indicating that anthropogenic activity was the dominant factor in water resource depletion. In contrast, we observed an increase in TWS at a rate of 0.82 cm year-1 during the 2013–2017 period, which can be attributed to the implementation of more effective water resource management practices in the ASB
Benefit of Harp Music in a Music Therapy Setting
Music therapy is an evidence based form of arts therapy that utilizes music in order to achieve non musical goals. Music therapy is an accessible, personalized form of therapy that utilizes music making in the forms of improvisation, composition, reception, and performance. This often includes, but is not limited to, the use of guitar, piano, and singing.
While not the most common instrument used in music therapy settings, the harp has a reputation for bringing peace and comfort to listeners due to the timbre and resonance of the instrument. With its similarities to the harp, research on the monochord table is also included in this study, as it has been shown to be beneficial for music therapy clients.
This study is to give supporting evidence to show that the nature of the harp is uniquely suited to benefit the listeners emotionally and physiologically. This study is important for music therapists for the benefit of their clients
Does Peer Influence Impact Substance Use Intentions in Pre-Adolescence? A Longitudinal Examination
• Substance use in adolescent populations remains a significant public health concern. Although many studies have explored the association between peer influence and adolescents\u27 substance use intentions, little has focused on how pre-adolescent populations are impacted by peer influence and their susceptibility to substance use. This gap in knowledge presents to be concerning given the increased vulnerability to social pressures during this developmental stage. This study aims to close this gap by investigating the association of the role of peer influence in shaping pre-adolescents\u27 intent to use substances
Latinx Education: Catalyst for Permanent Socio-Economic Change
This poster explores the transformative impact of education in empowering the Latinx community, drawing on insights from four contemporary films: Spare Parts, McFarland USA, Walkout, and A Million Miles Away. Each film depicts unique narratives where education is pivotal in overcoming socio-economic challenges, cultural barriers, and systemic inequities. Spare Parts narrates the inspiring journey of Latino students who, with determination and innovative spirit, defy stereotypes to excel in science and technology. McFarland USA illustrates how mentorship and community support enable under-resourced Latinx athletes to break the cycle of poverty through academic and athletic success. In Walkout, historic student-led protests spotlight the demand for equitable educational opportunities, emphasizing collective action against discriminatory practices. Meanwhile, A Million Miles Away portrays a young Latinx student\u27s personal struggle with cultural identity and educational access, ultimately demonstrating how higher education can redefine life trajectories.
Together, these films affirm education as a catalyst for social change, economic mobility, and community empowerment within the Latinx community. By critically analyzing these cinematic portrayals, this poster argues that education not only imparts essential knowledge and skills but also fosters resilience, self-advocacy, and cultural pride. The narratives serve as a call to action for increased educational investment and policy reforms to ensure that all Latinx students have access to quality education, paving the way for a more inclusive and empowered future
