aspetos. The main objective of this internship report is to present the entire process related
to the Pedagogical Internship of the Master in Physical Education Teaching in Basic and
Secondary Education at the University of Madeira, held at Francisco Franco Secondary
School, in the academic year 2021/2022. This document aims to identify, justify and

The association between physical activity and mental health during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic: a systematic review
Introduction: The Coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) pandemic afected countries worldwide and has changed
peoples’ lives. A reduction in physical activity and increased mental health problems were observed, mainly in the frst
year of the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, this systematic review aims to examine the association between physical activ ity and mental health during the frst year of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Methods: In July 2021, a search was applied to PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science. Eligibility criteria included
cross-sectional, prospective, and longitudinal study designs and studies published in English; outcomes included
physical activity and mental health (e.g., depressive symptoms, anxiety, positive and negative efects, well-being).
Results: Thirty-one studies were included in this review. Overall, the studies suggested that higher physical activity
is associated with higher well-being, quality of life as well as lower depressive symptoms, anxiety, and stress, indepen dently of age. There was no consensus for the optimal physical activity level for mitigating negative mental symp toms, neither for the frequency nor for the type of physical activity. Women were more vulnerable to mental health
changes and men were more susceptive to physical activity changes.
Conclusion: Physical activity has been a good and efective choice to mitigate the negative efects of the COVID-19
pandemic on mental health during the frst year of the COVID-19 pandemic. Public health policies should alert for
possibilities to increase physical activity during the stay-at-home order in many countries worldwide.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Compilative translation and the role of translator in the portuguese theater: the case of Claudio Tolcachir’s A omissão da família Coleman (2017-2023)
: The present article reflects on the ex perience of translating Claudio Tolcachir’s theatre
play La omisión de la familia Coleman into Portu guese for the Artistas Unidos Company to show case the complexities of translating for the theat er. Through archival and ethnographic methods,
data were gathered that suggest that the different
target texts produced in both dramatic/literary
and theatrical/performed translation are compila tive in nature. Furthermore, the plurality in these
target texts is approached as both a cause and a
consequence of the indeterminacy of the trans lator’s role in the different rewriting phases that
stem from the textual interlingual rendering of a
source text to the performed translated version.
At the end of the article, two translation problems
are tackled that revolve around the translation of
objects. These examples aim at demonstrating
my own hesitations as to whether the translator’s
responsibility is to render a text in which objects -
mentioned in characters’ discourses and in stage
directions that suggest the object’s presence on
set - are not only recognized by audiences but
also interpreted in a similar vein as by the source
Engineered Neutral Phosphorous Dendrimers Protect Mouse Cortical Neurons and Brain Organoids from Excitotoxic Death
Nanoparticles are playing an increasing role in biomedical applications. Excitotoxicity
plays a significant role in the pathophysiology of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s
or Parkinson’s disease. Glutamate ionotropic receptors, mainly those activated by N-methyl-D aspartate (NMDA), play a key role in excitotoxic death by increasing intraneuronal calcium levels;
triggering mitochondrial potential collapse; increasing free radicals; activating caspases 3, 9, and 12;
and inducing endoplasmic reticulum stress. Neutral phosphorous dendrimers, acting intracellularly,
have neuroprotective actions by interfering with NMDA-mediated excitotoxic mechanisms in rat
cortical neurons. In addition, phosphorous dendrimers can access neurons inside human brain
organoids, complex tridimensional structures that replicate a significant number of properties of
the human brain, to interfere with NMDA-induced mechanisms of neuronal death. Phosphorous
dendrimers are one of the few nanoparticles able to gain access to the inside of neurons, both in
primary cultures and in brain organoids, and to exert pharmacological actions by themselves.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Epistemological foundations of research in social sciences
Abstraction, deductive discourse, and logic relegate this primary/first form of knowledge expatriating it in the name of
objectivity. But intuition can be the free vision of taskmaster rationality that in metaphor and symbol apprehends the reality from
which it is born. The analogy, not being translatable by concepts of understanding, can be experienced by active and existential
subjectivity, by the privilege of creation (plastic and artistic) that is expressed in the insinuation of intelligibility.
Is the non-submission of research to the rules of the scientific method capital? Allegiance to scientific criteria expels criticism of
scientific instruments and methods. Without expressing necessary and universal truths, the research we defend makes possible
their existence without their permanence being monolithic and invariant. Truth is no longer absolute, still less valid ad

Teachers' involvement in the evaluation of faculty performance assessment: a case study in a public school in the Autonomous Region of Madeira
A metodologia a utilizar no desenvolvimento desta investigação é a abordagem qualitativa,
avaliadores internos e noventa e seis docentes avaliados.
The evaluation of teachers' performance has gained great visibility in recent times, as a
requirement of education systems, teachers and their school organizations, but also as an act of
accountability to society, since teachers feel the constraint of an evaluation process used to assess
the quality of educational institutions and the involvement of these same teachers in the process of
evaluating their performance.
This research aims to characterize the evaluation process of teaching performance in a
primary and secondary school in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, from various perspectives
of the teachers of the same school.
The methodology to be used in the development is the qualitative approach, which will
have the collaboration of one hundred and thirty-two teachers, twenty-three with functions of
internal evaluators and ninety-six teachers evaluated. The data collection, which will constitute the
essence of this project, will be carried out by means of the fundamental technique of data collection
through documental analysis; by means of a questionnaire survey, made to the teachers of the same
school and a semi-structured interview, made to two Regional Directors, as informants of this
process.
The results of this study will aim to analyse the stakeholders' considerations on this issue
and to verify the degree of involvement of teachers in the evaluation process of teaching
performance, highlighting the need for evaluation for a greater and better efficiency of the
evaluation process of teaching performance
Documenting the flora of a diversity hotspot: Richard Thomas Lowe (1802–1874) and his botanical exploration of Madeira island
Oceanic island floras often exhibit remarkable concentrations of endemic diversity, provide spectacular examples of rapid
evolutionary radiations and harbour floras under significant threat due to anthropogenic pressures. They have attracted the interest of
biologists for centuries, but their floras continue to yield new taxa and, at a global scale, the extent of their plant diversity remains
imperfectly known. Both natural characteristics and historical factors have shaped the development of knowledge of island floras.
In this paper, we investigate the approach of Richard Thomas Lowe (1802–1874), to documenting the flora of Madeira island in
the North Atlantic. Lowe collected abundantly in Madeira between 1826 and 1873, resulting in several works on Madeira’s flora, pub lished from the 1830s. At a time when taxonomic research on island floras was often based on limited collections made during brief
expeditions, Lowe’s research on the flora, spanning almost half a century, was exceptional. In this study, 2579 herbarium specimens
collected by Lowe were georeferenced and used to investigate temporal, spatial and taxonomic patterns in Lowe’s collecting activities.
We also examine the distribution of specimens by Lowe to other botanists. Some biases are evident in Lowe’s collecting efforts, with
steep slopes under-sampled and coastal sites over-sampled. These reflect constraints imposed by topography and transport links.
These limitations aside, Lowe’s work on the Madeiran flora was conducted in a systematic manner, resulting in a comprehensive study
of the entire flora. His approach was distinctly modern: he gathered and studied all available information in herbaria and in the pub lished and unpublished writings from earlier visitors; his initial fieldwork was conducted widely to gain knowledge of all habitats and
their floras; later fieldwork focussed on less-explored and most promising areas; duplicates were sent to other botanists, facilitating
taxonomic exchanges on critical taxa; and his later fieldwork focussed on plant groups where taxonomic problems had been detected.
As a result of Lowe’s sustained and systematic approach, he is the single most prolific contributor to the study of Madeira’s endemic
flora. His approach is a model to documenting island floras still relevant today. Areas poorly sampled by Lowe were areas that were
difficult to access, which also protected them from anthropic destructive activities and allowed them to serve as refuges for endemic
flora. Those areas deserve particular attention in efforts to complete the survey of Madeira’s plant diversity, using technological ad vancements such as drones to prospect areas that are otherwise still largely inaccessible.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Splinter Studio - Narrative and game mechanics with context
Lucky Hero’s Legacy is an adventure game based on the cultural
heritage of Madeira Island. Aiming, to mitigate the lack of interest of
teenagers in cultural heritage. The game was designed so that teenagers
can explore various scenarios of Madeira Island involving the region's
legends and heritage.
This document covers the entire process behind creating the
narrative based on Madeira legends, the game mechanics that provide
entertainment and educational content as well as how all of this was
implemented technically.
To show the effectiveness of the videogame as a media of
transmitting information regarding cultural heritage. Therefore, an
evaluation was carried out involving 15 teenagers. In which it showed
positive results in retaining information from young people as well as their
learning about the cultural heritage of Madeira. So, Lucky Hero’s Legacy
contributes with a new approach for teens to engage with Culture Heritage,
as well as serving as a way of preserving it.Lucky Hero’s Legacy é um jogo de aventura, com base no património
