The effects of AI on students´ educational process
Dissertation presented as the partial requirement for obtaining a Master's degree in Information Management, specialization in Information Systems and Technologies ManagementArtificial intelligence now touches the lives of millions through its integration into various everyday tasks. One of the fields that has been actively exploring AI-driven tools is education, offering advantages ranging from personalized systems to improved access to resources. In this study we try to understand the value added that AI-driven tools bring to students’ educational approaches, testing their performance and intention to recommend. For this purpose, our innovative theoretical model was tested in a quantitative study using structural equation modelling (SEM), from students or recent graduates with different backgrounds and ages. This study contributes to knowledge and investigation, revealing that constructs like user performance, perceived AI helpfulness and satisfaction play a significant role in their intention to recommend AI-driven tools. Therefore, it contributes to not only to teachers and students, but also to companies that deal with the marketing and software solutions used in universities
Product returns in fashion e-commerce
Project Work presented as the partial requirement for obtaining a Master's degree in Data Driven Marketing, specialization in Marketing IntelligenceProduct returns are a significant challenge in e-commerce, particularly for online fashion retailers, where return rates can range from 30% to over 50% for some product categories. Such high values can result in increased costs, reduced profit margins, and sustainability concerns for retail businesses. Unlike brick-and-mortar retail, however, the main issues contributing to increased e-commerce fashion returns are that customers cannot properly assess products online from images and descriptions and are not able to try merchandise before they buy. This document details a case study of a multi-national European fashion e-tailer and analyses its transactional data to determine the specific factors influencing the return rates. If an item is returned by a customer and put back into inventory for resale, it was calculated from operational data that each return decreases product profitability by 33%. Based on feedback from managerial interviews and customer surveys, as well as reviewing of the latest industry trends and research literature, recommendations are proposed to mitigate the effect of high returns in terms of improving profitability and decreasing environmental impact. Nevertheless, returns will remain an inevitable part of online fashion for the foreseeable future – as such, the case study also throws up several areas for further research in the subject of returns management
The impact of ESG measures on credit ratings: Does it affect creditworthiness?
Dissertation presented as the partial requirement for obtaining a Master's degree in Statistics and Information Management, specialization in Risk Analysis and ManagementNowadays, sustainability has been a recurrent theme and is increasingly becoming a concern for several activity sectors. Financial institutions and banks are not an exception, and they have been taking some measures to reduce environmental and climate risks. However, environmental factors are not the only ones to consider. Social and governmental measures must also be considered when talking about sustainable disclosure. At this point, the ESG emerges as an analysis framework to help measure and qualify the degree to which an organization is operating in a sustainable way. The main aim of this dissertation is to gain a broader perspective on how companies, banks, credit rating agencies and financial institutions are dealing with ESG measures, how they are integrating them into decision-making processes and to understand the impact of ESG measures on credit ratings, and consequently, the impact on debtor’s creditworthiness. This is achieved using the ordered logistic regression model, which is applied to a dataset of public companies in which the country of headquarters is located in Europe. The main conclusions of this research confirm that the relationship between ESG performance and credit ratings exists and is positive, however, for the dataset used, the Social Score is the one that represents a statistically significant effect on credit ratings. It can be added that, even for companies that are geographically close to one another and share a common economic, political, and social environment, the relationship between ESG performance and credit ratings can be complex
O Comércio Transatlântico Português de Escravos entre a 2ª Metade do Séc. XVIII e o Início do Séc. XIX
XVIII e início do Séc.
This is a dissertation on the Portuguese Transatlantic Slave Trade during the second half of the XVIIIth Century and early XIXth Century. Our purpose is to ascertain the real impact of the Portuguese slave trade, using the information published online by the Slavevoyages website. The data confirm fluctuating disembarkation numbers, but generally significantly below British ones. The historiography demonstrates that it was
not the Portuguese, but the Castilians, who inaugurated the transatlantic slave trade to land slaves in the New World. Later, in the first quarter of the XVth Century, the Portuguese got involved, because, under terms of the Treaty of Tordesillas, the Castilians could not trade on most of the African coastline. During the 1750’s decade,
the Portuguese government instituted two monopoly companies to land slaves in certain regions of Brazil. Disembarkation levels did not increase significantly, while some private importers were probably displaced. Casualty rates during the slaving voyages under Portuguese flag were always the lowest, due most probably to the effects of a 1684 Law to regulate slave transport conditions signed by King D. Pedro II, which
would later be emulated by the British 1788 Dolben Act. Although Portugal was not on the forefront of the modern abolitionist movements, we can believe the Catholic Church played a favourable role refraining excesses of cruelty, at least when government officials had a say in the matter. Father Manuel Ribeiro da Rocha published in 1758 a book, where, basing himself on the Deuteronomy-stipulated concepts, he advocated
slave manumission following a certain number of years of labour. During his reign, King D. José I promulgated in 1761 a Law, an Alvará Régio, banning slave imports into Portugal. In 1773, another Alvará Régio stipulated a massive immediate slave emancipation in the homeland, while setting norms directed to full extinction of slavery

The importance of Individual Action in Fighting Food Waste
The negative environmental, social and economic impacts generated by Food Waste have made the subject a concern for governments, entities, academia and society in a context of increasing of world population, increase of the food insecurity and hunger summed up to the climatic uncertainties, namely, water scarcity.
Present project approaches the complexity if Food Waste from the definition of what can be considered Food Waste, the steps where food waste occur inside the Global Food System, the environmental, social, and economic impacts generated by it, the reasons which take people to waste food in the current society, the benefits of waste reduction, public initiatives and policies in fighting Food Waste, as well as the communication as strategy to fight and reduce the problem.
Propose in this work is a reflection on the impact of individual actions in fighting Food Waste, the importance of encouraging consumers to best practices of consumption and food disposal reduction. We, yet also illuminate the necessity to inform, communicate, and sensitize consumers about the issue of food waste once the biggest volume of wasted food is produced at the consumption phase.
Considering the importance of the impact of individual actions towards fighting Food Waste, and the necessity to inspire and teach new attitudes and practices to the consumers, the project proposes the creation of a documentary film about Food Waste which will present the issue's complexity, the impacts associated to waste, the benefits in reducing waste, and above all, will promote in what way consumers can reduce food waste in their practical life.
In that sense, the present work presents as a result a proposal of creation of a documentary about Food Waste in the Portuguese context, with the duration of 60 minutes and which has as a target audience the young and the adults. The work has been split into parts, being the first part approaching the theoretical framing and literary revision over the subject of Food Waste, the second part defined what a documentary is and its production steps, and the third part presented the Proposal of creation of a documentary film

TRASH
O presente relatório pretende enquadrar a escrita de um texto dramatúrgico original como projeto para um espetáculo, com um enquadramento teórico - sobre a autobiografia como fonte para ficção e encenação e sobre as consequências da situação pandémica na prática teatral – e uma descrição dos vários passos do processo criativo de TRASH e perspetivas para a sua encenação.TRASH is a dramaturgical text for a namesake show that is inspired by the conceptual aesthetics of works by authors such as Tim Crouch, James Joyce, Duncan Macmillan, Jorge Andrade and Deborah Pearson, seeking to explore themes such as mental health and the importance of art in maintaining it, the use of autobiography as an actor-creator, loneliness and isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic, the beauty and complexity of the inner voice and the possible dialogue with it, and also what it means to be present and/or absent in the connection
with the other. Using a set of texts written between March 2020 and September 2021, the idea for this show came about following the international meeting Presence, Absence, Invisibility, promoted by the Performance and Cognition research group at Universidade Nova de Lisboa, which took place in Lisbon in October 2022. TRASH focuses on narratives of power and exclusion, the ecology of scenic presence and absence, and the performativity of (in)visibility resulting from the pandemic period. This report aims to frame the writing of an original dramaturgical text as a project for a show, with a theoretical framework - on autobiography as
a source for fiction and staging and on the consequences of the pandemic situation on theatrical practice - and a description of the various steps of TRASH’s creative process and perspectives for its staging
Purkinje cell complex spikes in locomotor coordination and learning
"Everyday we need to adapt to new situations where our movements need to remain precise and coordinated. We learn to adapt to these sit- uations by neural mechanisms that identify the ongoing movement and rapidly correct it. The cerebellum is a brain region with extensive repre- sentations of movement and has been linked to the sensorimotor prediction processes that occur during motor adaptation and learning. In cases of cerebellar damage in humans or other animal species, ataxia, or over- all lack of coordination is observed. Moreover, humans or animals with cerebellar damage show impairments in motor learning assays. Here we combined quantitative whole-body coordination measurements with so- phisticated genetic tools to manipulate and measure the cerebellar circuit to study interlimb coordination during locomotion and locomotor learn- ing in mice. This work focused on the role of complex spikes of Purkinje cells as error signals during different aspects of locomotion on a motorized treadmill and during adaptation to externally imposed locomotor asym- metries.(...)
