The Mediterranean Diet is widely recognized for its benefits in preventing chronic diseases, including cancer. It is estimated that between 30% and 50% of cases can be prevented through dietary changes. In the context of hereditary cancer predisposition syndromes, such as in carriers of pathogenic variants in the BRCA1/2 and TP53 genes, nutrition plays a crucial role. This study aimed to assess adherence to the Mediterranean Diet in this population and to explore the factors influencing it, particularly genetic diagnosis.

From Anxiety to Trust: Understanding AI Chatbot adoption in Emergency Healthcare
Dissertation presented as the partial requirement for obtaining a Master's degree in Information Management, specialization in Business IntelligenceThe integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare is transforming emergency
department (ED) operations by streamlining service efficiency. This study investigates the key
factors influencing the adoption of AI-driven chatbots to enhance patient flow and reduce
waiting times. A survey was conducted in Portugal with 296 individuals who often turn to the
internet for health advice and have experienced emergency situations where quick and
accurate guidance is critical, and analyzed using partial least squares. Grounded in UTAUT and
frameworks of security, trust, and anxiety, the model explained 76.7% of the variance in the
actual use of health chatbots. Anxiety moderates the relationship between intention to use
and actual use and behavioral intention mediates the relationship between trust and use. By
assessing symptoms and guiding patients to less-crowded hospitals, AI chatbots demonstrate
the potential to reduce ED congestion and improve decision-making
Assessing artificial intelligence readiness in EU e-government: insights from factor and cluster analysis
Dissertation presented as the partial requirement for obtaining a Master's degree in Information Management, specialization in Business IntelligenceArtificial Intelligence is playing an increasingly central role in the transformation of public
governance, offering new possibilities for more adaptive, responsive, and citizen-centric
service delivery. However, the extent to which European Union member states are
institutionally and societally prepared to adopt these technologies in the public sector remains
insufficiently explored. This thesis addresses that gap by providing a comparative assessment
of Artificial Intelligence readiness across the European Union. Using secondary data from
Eurostat and the European Commission’s electronic Government Benchmark, the study
applies exploratory factor analysis to identify two core dimensions: Digital Skills and Electronic
Government Engagement, and Transparency and Electronic Government Service Availability.
These dimensions serve as inputs for hierarchical and k-means clustering, which reveal six
distinct profiles of readiness among member states. The findings uncover substantial
disparities in both infrastructural and citizen-level preparedness, reflecting broader digital
divides. Ultimately, the results highlight that successful Artificial Intelligence integration in
public governance is contingent not only on technological infrastructure but also on inclusive,
citizen-oriented strategies. This thesis contributes an empirical framework for understanding
readiness, offering practical insights for policymakers aiming to ensure that AI-driven digital
transformation advances equitably across the European public sector
Redefining oral care using Lean Business principles - development and validation
The oral care market lacks products that combine safety, efficacy, sustainability, and a premium
sensory experience. This study developed KLEAN, a clean, premium oral care brand addressing
this gap. Using the Lean Business Model Canvas framework, surveys, interviews, and
community feedback validated the demand for a fluoride-free toothpaste with nano hydroxyapatite (nHAp) for enamel protection and probiotics for gum health. A refillable pump
dispenser made from recycled materials was designed based on consumer preferences. Results
from a social media analyses and user feedback confirm interest in KLEAN’s clean formulation
and eco-friendly packaging, highlighting significant market potential in Germany’s oral care
sector
in loco e at hoc. Porém, nesta Tese pretendemos estudar aspectos da mentalidade da civilização
do Vale do Nilo.
partilharam o espaço do início da dinastia XIX.In general, there is a consensus that the human mind can only be studied in loco and at
hoc. However, in this Thesis we propose to study aspects of the mentality of the Nile Valey
Civilization. In order to achieve this end, we will draw on various Egyptian sources of
Archaeological Records, from the Dynastic Period, which are meticulously presented with
specific focus on the Egyptian History of Manethon, the Royal Annals, the Royal Canon of
Turin, the Royal Lists and the Monumental Inscriptions of Seti I, pharaoh of the New Kingdom
dynasty XIX. To this documentary corpus we will add the narrative of Seti I, which was
inscribed in his great constructions, during his reign. The main objective will be to identify
how time and memory, two fundamental mental constructs for any civilization, articulate with
this narrative and were, or not, by it modified or shaped. In order to verify this phenomenon,
we propose an analysis of various time-related concepts such as 'Linear Time' and 'Cyclic
Time', and memory-related concepts, such as 'Individual Memory', 'Communicative Memory'
and finally the 'Cultural Memory'.
The interaction of these various key concepts with Seti I’s narrative can reveal how
Memory and Time were used as political tools, altering Historical Time and creating another
memory that was absorbed by the Nile Civilization. After identifying this ‘ability to alter time’
and this ‘ability to alter memory’, it is therefore essential to understand how Seti I was able to
effectively alter the various levels of memory. At the same time, it is unavoidable to understand
how this king was able to similarly affect the time as it was perceived by the Egyptians who
shared with him the space of the early dynasty XIX
The outcomes of generative AI in the future of work: The role of technostress creators
Dissertation presented as the partial requirement for obtaining a Master's degree in Information Management, specialization in Digital TransformationGenerative artificial intelligence (Gen-AI) is reshaping the future of work, bringing both
opportunities and challenges in an increasingly competitive global economy. Unlike traditional
AI models that primarily analyze existing data, Gen-AI leverages advanced machine learning
(ML) techniques, such as deep neural networks and transformer architectures, to model
probabilistic distributions, generate contextually relevant content, and iteratively refine
outputs based on training data and user interactions. While prior studies have explored its
applications in specific domains, research on its broader implications for the future of work
remains scarce. To address this lack, this study builds on the DeLone & McLean IS success
model and aims to explore the outcomes of Gen-AI in the future of work focusing on the role
of technostress creators—stressors induced by AI adoption—and their influence on shaping
the adoption and integration of Gen-AI in organizational contexts. This study employs the
belief-action-outcome (BAO) framework to structure the proposed conceptual model, which
examines how user beliefs—such as technostress creators and quality perceptions—influence
actions, including system use and satisfaction, ultimately shaping instrumental and humanistic
outcomes. The research draws on both theoretical insights from the existing literature and
empirical data collected through questionnaires targeting professionals who have some level
of contact with this technology, where we gathered 305 valid responses. Our results highlight
the strong impact of Gen-AI in the future of work and the role of technostress creators in user
satisfaction and workplace outcomes. Moreover, technostress creators, besides explaining
the outcomes, act as moderators in the relationship between AI usage and user satisfaction
How can journalism and its professionals adapt to young people´s demands in terms of journalistic value?
The transition from traditional to digital journalism has led to transformations in
how news organizations and individual journalists interact with audiences, with a fierce
ongoing competition between professional news sources and peripheral actors disputing
for the public´s attention.
In a complex digital setting, young people are frequently consuming information
through social media platforms, where novel individual alternative voices in the periphery
of journalism become relevant to consider. This is because their approach - in terms of
format, language and content – resonates with youth´s preferences in terms of
communication traits and thus empowers such content creators in becoming credible
information sources who are able to contextualize and simplify news.
This dissertation examines how journalism and its professionals are adapting to
young people´s needs in terms of journalistic value. Specifically, the study considers two
dimensions – production and reception – to bring awareness of how journalists in Portugal
(whose work is directly aimed at youth or whose social media use is incorporated in their
journalistic role) are adapting their communicative practices to bring news to those who
are more distant from traditional journalism. Moreover, this study analyses how
adolescents aged 13 to 18 engage with content on social media platforms where they go to
more frequently, as well as youngsters´ preferred traits when it comes to individual
information sources.
The results show that news organizations in Portugal coming from the public and
the private sector are neglecting young people in terms of the production of regulated
news content for this specific audience. There is a generalized resistance from professional journalists towards the individualization of the journalistic role. However, this is
incongruent with youth´s preferences for individual information sources who are able to
connect with those who are distant from legacy media. Adolescents seek for alternative
voices who are able to inspire them, to educate rather than merely informing.
Journalism and its professionals have the challenge of revolutionizing how they
operate in the digital sphere, as their future actions – depending also on the contribution of
certain peripheral actors who may reinvigorate the institution without losing its virtue –
will help shape how young people make informed decisions, fighting against those who
continuously weaken democracy by spreading misinformation.
