Towards circular economy: Investigating citizens’ adoption of digital product passports
Dissertation presented as the partial requirement for obtaining a Master's degree in Information Management, specialization in Business IntelligenceThe transition to a circular economy presents an imperative need given the unsustainable consumption
patterns and growing environmental degradation. In response to this, this new system is being
presented as a sustainable solution, wherein materials are reused, recycled and regenerated to
optimize the use of resources. This work explores how digital product passports can empower citizens
to actively engage in environmentally responsible consumption. Despite the recognition of citizens as
essential drivers of circular economy efforts, their role in adopting sustainable technologies remains
underexplored. The findings expose motivational and behavioral factors that shape citizens' intention
to adopt digital product passports, bridging gaps in current knowledge about individual engagement
with technology. Through a structural equation modelling, data collected from an online survey was
analyzed in order to test several variables. This work contributes to the broader understanding of
sustainable innovation and its societal impacts, advancing circular economy strategies

In addition to being a legal and criminal category, corruption is a social phenomenon that has been the subject of special interest in Portuguese society and is seen as a real disease that affects the political system and the state apparatus. As such, it is a subject that has been widely studied and debated in Portuguese doctrine and jurisprudence. Among the issues that have received attention is the problem of the start of the limitation period for criminal proceedings relating to corruptive offences when more than one of the behaviours set out in articles 373 and 374 of the Penal Code are committed, which depends on determining when they are consummated. This is precisely the issue addressed in this paper.
Since the legal interest protected by the incrimination of corruption is a complex legal interest, which includes the functional capacity and efficiency of the state machine and community trust in the correctness and objectivity of the exercise of public functions, the consummation of corruption offences occurs, if there is a succession of corrupt acts, at the moment when the first of them occurs. Therefore, according to article 119, no. 1 of the Penal Code, it is when the first conduct that fulfils the type of offence is committed that the limitation period for the respective criminal proceedings begins to run.
This normative interpretation is the one that best fulfils the letter of the law and the spirit of the legislator. However, there is still a great deal of doctrinal and jurisprudential divergence that has given rise to entirely different solutions, thus compromising the principle of legal certainty, which is why it is imperative to standardise doctrine and jurisprudence on this matter, in the name of the principle of criminal legality. It therefore seems pertinent that, in addition to the interpreter's interpretation of the law, the criminal
legislator should intervene.
The possible adoption of a different solution to the one currently in force is not rejected, especially since the risk of impunity associated with the normative interpretation that results from the law when there is a time lag between the acts carried out is recognised. On the other hand, since it is considered that the legislator did not intend to make typical behaviour irrelevant, the judge may consider typical behaviour subsequent to the moment of consummation when determining the concrete measure of the penalty,
under the terms of article 71, no. 2, e) of the Penal Code
portuguesa. This dissertation describes an empirical study conducted with the aim of
establishing concrete correlations between the spectral energy distribution of abstract
sounds and the use of specific semantic descriptors in Portuguese, in a transdisciplinary
research between psychoacoustics and linguistics. Central concepts, such as “timbre,”
“abstract sound,” and “semantic description” will be defined and discussed, supported by
a literature review in the areas of auditory perception (and the underlying cognitive
processes), sound timbre and verbalization. By examining the recurrence of specific
semantic descriptors, this dissertation represents the first stage of a broader research
project on the influence of various acoustic parameters on the cognitive processes of the
auditory perception of non-referential sounds. As such, the subjects of the empirical study
were exposed to five synthesized sounds whose timbres varied exclusively in spectral
energy distribution, evaluating each sample on magnitude scales for seven semantic
descriptors. We will also demonstrate the need for future studies on the semantics of
timbre by investigating the influence of other timbral dimensions on auditory perception.
As a Master’s in Musical Arts Dissertation, an aesthetic conscience will be present,
reflecting on the concept of timbre within the framework of electroacoustic music. This
is the first research project in the field of timbre semantics dedicated to the Portuguese
language
Challenges and strategies of Portuguese entrepreneurs entering the Middle Eastern market: a cultural intelligence perspective
This thesis examines the challenges Portuguese entrepreneurs face when entering the Middle
Eastern market and explores the cultural intelligence (CQ) strategies they employ to adapt.
Using a systematic literature review (SLR) methodology structured under PRISMA
guidelines, six peer-reviewed articles were identified, screened, and thematically analyzed.
The study maps key findings onto the four dimensions of CQ: motivational, cognitive,
behavioral, and metacognitive. The results highlight the role of sponsorships, institutional
navigation, and diplomatic support as critical enablers of adaptation. The thesis contributes to
international entrepreneurship research by positioning CQ as a core capability for success in
culturally distant markets worldwide
Rare material dependency and its long-term effects on offshore wind turbine supply chains in Europe: balancing demand and capacity in European scenarios through 2030- optimistic scenario
European offshore energy highly depends on wind turbines using rare earth elements (REEs)
that are mainly sourced from China. Europe therefore faces significant geopolitical and supply
chain risks, which this study assesses based on literature research, expert interviews and
scenario analyses. Results show that Europe is unlikely to reach its offshore wind targets for
2030. The expected scenario is characterized by insufficient and slow progress. Its mitigation
requires REE sourcing diversification and the implementation of innovative technologies and
supportive policies. These findings underscore the importance of securing REE supply chains
to maintain growth in offshore wind and meet climate targets
From Frankfurt to Fifth Avenue: positioning foreign offices as attractive workplaces for young finance professionals: the case of DZ Bank New York
This thesis explores how multinational banks can better position their foreign offices as attractive
employers for junior professionals. Using the case of DZ BANK New York, it draws on
qualitative interviews to uncover how local experiences complement or deviate from
international branding efforts. Findings show that although there is a strong internal culture,
employer branding is still informal, and visibility is low. The paper argues that foreign offices
can serve as testing grounds for localized employer branding strategies, because they offer a mix
of local flexibility and global stability which appeals to early-career talent when presented
authentically and strategically
Sustainable financing strategies for education NGOs: adapting global insights to sabmails local context in Cabo Verde partnerships for children: designing a collaboration strategy between Unicef Portugal and companies to promote children's rights
This thesis investigates sustainable financing strategies for education-focused NGOs in low and lower-middle-income countries, using SabMais in Cabo Verde as a case study. Through
qualitative interviews and comprehensive desk research, the study identifies key financial
instruments, assesses their strategic significance, and proposes a three-year roadmap aligned
with SabMais’s identity and growth stage. By integrating academic and empirical insights with
real-world challenges, this research contributes to both the literature on NGO financing and the
practical development of grassroots educational initiatives in under-resourced contexts
This report is the result of a curricular internship carried out at the National Republican Guard, within the scope of the Master's in Sustainable Urbanism and Spatial Planning at the Nova School of Science and Technology, under the scientific coordination of Professor José Carlos Ferreira and Colonel Carlos Pimentel.
The internship's relevance lies in analyzing the scale and characteristics of environmental violations associated with forest species in mainland Portugal, with a focus on those affecting protected species such as the cork oak (Quercus suber) and the holm oak (Quercus rotundifolia). Understanding these phenomena is essential for defining more effective awareness-raising and enforcement strategies. Therefore, the National Republican Guard (GNR)'s operational database was consulted and an analysis of reports of misdemeanor offenses related to environmental violations was conducted, with a particular focus on incidents involving protected forest species
Consequently, the violations detected in 2023 associated with forest species were quantified, as well as the species most frequently affected by illegal actions. The geographic distribution of violations by municipality was verified, and communication and awareness-raising strategies adapted to the most common violations and the most vulnerable species were proposed. Thus, the persistent pressure on legally protected forest species was confirmed, requiring the strengthening of awareness-raising and monitoring mechanisms. SEPNA's work is crucial for detecting violations, but prevention also requires an integrated approach involving landowners, municipalities, schools, and civil society.
It is also proposed that the integration of ICNF data and geographic information systems (GIS) could provide new insights into the analysis and mitigation of forest-related environmental violations. It also constitutes a strategic element for decision-making on forestry activity planning
