Criteria, concerns, and rewards: towards sustainable consumer behavior in Portugal
A maioria
ambiental.Sustainability and the reduction of food waste are inseparable themes. In Portugal, 17 % of annual
food production is wasted, much of it at household level. The aim of this study was to evaluate i)
criteria for food choices, ii) concern about food waste at home, and iii) possible reward systems to
promote more sustainable food choices among consumers. Data were collected through an online
questionnaire during the month of November 2022, obtaining 366 responses. The results showed
that the three main criteria when buying food are shelf life, price, and processing level of the food.
At the level of consumption, most of the respondents showed concern with the amount of sugar as
fat added to the processed foods (28 %). Most respondents (56 %) use little or no weekly meal
planning to reduce food waste. Regarding the possible rewards for more sustainable choices, the
most chosen option was the monetary reward (52 %), followed by discounts on local/organic/organic
food products (41 %), and the choice of sustainable personal and home care products (28 %),
suggesting an interest on the part of consumers in changing their consumption habits towards more
sustainable habits in areas beyond food. The use of reward systems could be a starting point to
create a society oriented towards more sustainable consumption choices, both in terms of food and
the environment.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
The bond between Higher Education Institutions and society:a scoping review about knowledge transfer and valorisation to promote sustainable development
This chapter aims to identify how higher education institutions (HEIs) have operationalised the transfer of knowledge to society in terms of research, development, and innovation; the determinants of this process; and how the knowledge transfer to society contributes to local and regional development and sustainability. Herein, a scoping review was carried out to address this goal. Out of 197 retrieved articles, 30 met the inclusion criteria. These studies concentrate on the following themes: (1) determinants of the knowledge transfer process between HEIs and society; (2) the state of knowledge transfer in HEIs; (3) transfer knowledge to local and regional development; and (4) transfer of knowledge to sustainability. This study concludes that although different determinants influencing this collaboration have been identified, most studies reveal that the transfer level is still at a very early stage.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Evolution of the documents related to the study of taekwondo sports performance: a bibliometric review
Abstract: Taekwondo is a Korean martial art, combat sport, and Olympic discipline. Taekwondo competition is characterized as an
individual sport (1X1), single elimination tournament and repechage system. The aim goal of this study is brought of a bibliometric
review regarding the item’s “taekwondo” and “performance”, through identified and published manuscripts on the Web of Science
(WOS) database by December 31, 2022. The bibliometric analysis was used to analyze a data set of 460 WOS-indexed manuscripts
published between 1992 and 2022. Descriptive analysis, citation, authorships, countries, institutionals, and keywords co-occurrence
analyses were conducted into Taekwondo sports performance. The manuscripts founded in the WOS database are inserted on the
categories: “Sports Science” (n = 229), “Hospitality Leisure Sport Tourism” (n = 48), and “Physiology” (n = 32). The authors Kazemi
et al. (2006), Matsushigue et al. (2009), and Paillard (2017) are the must published and cited researchers. The countries with high
number of published manuscripts with the objective of this study are Brazil (n = 83), South Korea (n = 57), and Spain (n = 52). We
found also, five collaboration networks between authors and institutions, found a gap of the thematic relevant researchers. The
authors should have highlighted Franchini, E., (n = 42), and Falco, C., (n = 20). It is recommended to carry out multidimensional
research on Taekwondo sports performance with the aim of establishing collaborations within groups, institutions, and countries.
In this way, the productivity, effectiveness, and quality of research would be increased, as well as international collaboration

Grammatical Choices and Narrative Quality in the Collaborative Writing of Primary School Students
Collaborative writing has been experienced and pointed out as a strong pedagogical
tool leading to dialogues when students make their grammar and text choices
explicit, discuss and refne their linguistic knowledge within the process. When put
into place at an early age, advantages shall increase in what concerns metalinguistic
knowledge and the quality of writing. In the present study, we are then putting together different axis related to gram mar and writing learning and teaching. Although no one would doubt that a better
text would rely on a wider grammar knowledge and performance, the relation
between these language domains isn’t still clear until today in what concerns lan guage teaching. Therefore, we bring to our refection not only the value of metalin guistic knowledge but also the place it has had in our country (in the years of our
data collection until today), considering the offcial language teaching guidelines.
Not only we will consider grammar but also writing and the pedagogical relation ship recommended offcially.
Considering the impact of metalinguistic knowledge in the quality of writing
leads us to refect on complex parameters guiding the evaluation of a specifc text,
affliated with a particular genre.
In the present study, we will be interested then in looking at the development of
metalinguistic knowledge in children, by observing their writing process, as well as
in assessing the quality of their writing, by observing their written products. The
same students were recorded while writing stories in pairs at grades 2 and 4, in the
classroom. Data were collected through a multimodal capture system – the Ramos
system (Calil, 2020) – which provides us with information of the writing process as
well as the written fnal texts.
Data samples of this corpus have been selected to study specifc dimensions,
such as the elaboration of titles (Barbeiro et al., 2020), lexical density (Costa et al.,
2020), the recognition of spelling mistakes (Calil & Pereira, 2018), metalinguistic
categories and terms emergent in the writing/revision processes, and how these are
(not) translated into textual modifcations, considering the discursive or grammati cal nature of the operations of language re(construction) (Barbeiro et al., 2022; Calil
& Myhill, 2020).
Now our analysis is focused, on one hand, on the occurrence of metalinguistic
terms during collaborative writing; on the other hand, we focused on the textual
product, the stories effectively written, measuring their quality in what concerns the
compositional aspects of writing narratives in the frst years of schooling. Therefore,
we aim to understand better the relationship between a metalinguistic refection and
the quality of the text.
As Costa and Rodrigues (2019, p. 25) state, “It thus becomes essential to conduct
research in at least two felds: research on language development and research on
grammar didactics”. The study presented here, following the previous ones men tioned before, is precisely trying to contribute to the feld of grammar-writing articu lation, by trying to apprehend the dimensions of language and texts that are the object
of refection and decision, by the same children, in two different moments of their
basic schooling (grade 2 and grade 4), during the collaborative writing process of a
text: Is grammatical knowledge, namely, using metalinguistic terms (MT), activated
during the writing process; in relation to which domains; with what functions; and
what impact will children’s “grammatical dialogues” have on the quality of their texts?
We will address frst the several theoretical subjects mentioned to pursue with the
methodology and analysis of the data considered for this refection, oriented to
answer the mentioned questions.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Análise da quantificação da recorrência durante o teste de batimento dos dedos em crianças do primeiro ciclo do ensino básico
The Recurrence Quantification Analysis (RQA), applied to fine motor skills in children, may be used to observe the behavior of the state of the child, which allows to study and understand the process that he/she is going through. This study aims to analyze the evolution of the fine motor skills between 6 and 9 years old. An inertial sensor was used to collect 3D data during FTT from 60 primary school children and was calculated Recurrence (REC) and Determinism (DET) of the collected time series. Results shows a decrease of REC and DET along ages and higher values in non-preferred hand. RQA shows great sensibility to evaluate fine motor skills and its visible an onset of differentiation between hands through these ages.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Psychometric properties of different versions of the body shape questionnaire in female aesthetic patients
The purpose of this study was to examine and compare the psychometric properties (internal consistency and factorial validity) of different versions of the Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ) in a sample of female aesthetic patients. The sample included 296 women attending aesthetic clinics, with ages ranging between 18 and 70 years (M = 32.23, SD = 11.35) and body mass index between 17.10 and 45.00 kg/m2 (M = 24.70, SD = 4.07). Nine different length versions of the BSQ (BSQ-34, BSQ-32, BSQ-16A, BSQ-16B, BSQ-14, BSQ-8A, BSQ-8B, BSQ-8C and BSQ-8D) were subjected to confirmatory factor analyses, using a robust maximum likelihood estimator. Robust fit indices indicated that the BSQ-8D version was the better-fitting and more parsimonious model (S-Bχ2/df = 1.81, CFI = 0.963, RMSEA = 0.052, SRMR = 0.043). This short version also showed appropriate reliability (McDonald’s omega and composite reliability = 0.87) and a very high correlation with the original BSQ-34 version (r = 0.95). In sum, these findings suggest that the BSQ-8D is the most valid, reliable and suitable BSQ version for measuring body shape concerns in female aesthetic patients.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Effects of exercise on quality of life in subjects with Alzheimer’s disease: systematic review with meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials
Alzheimer’s disease is a type of dementia that progressively affects memory, thinking, and behavior. It can interfere with daily activities and lead to a decline in cognitive abilities over time. Exercise-based interventions can complement Alzheimer’s disease treatment. Exercise is a valuable tool in all healthcare settings and has shown promise as an effective cognitive improvement intervention for people with cognitive impairments. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to analyze the effect of physical exercise on the QoL of subjects with Alzheimer’s disease. A search was performed with the help of the electronic databases PubMed and Web of Science. Randomized controlled trials with exercise-based interventions were selected. Four studies met the inclusion criteria, which included interventions based on exercise. The effects were summarized using standardized mean differences (95% confidence intervals) using random-effect models. The results showed that exercise had no significant effect on the QoL of subjects with Alzheimer. Thus, the effect of exercise interventions on the QoL of patients with Alzheimer’s disease is not conclusive. More research is needed about this topic and the way in which the QoL is assessed; the necessity to conduct an objective way to assess the QoL in this population is mandatory.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
qPCR as a sensitive tool for detecting Fusarium spp. in tomato plants
Apresentação em painelThe need to increase food production together with the demand to reduce the application of synthetic chemicals that have consequences on increasing the carbon footprint and negative impacts on the environment and human health, led to the search for alternative methods to protect plants against pathogens. The use of the highly sensitive real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR) arises as an extremely useful tool for studying various agents of infection in plants, such as fungi, viruses, or bacteria leading to a better control of diseases and limiting the use of chemical defence strategies. Given the high incidence of diseases in tomato plants caused by Fusarium spp., their consequent negative economic impacts, and the fact that most phytosanitary treatments are based on the application of synthetic fungicides, the establishment of a molecular-based tool that enables their early and accurate detection is of great interest. Furthermore, it will provide an additional tool for the screening of resistant plants. In the presented study, a TaqMan®-based qPCR method targeting the Fusarium spp.- specific internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region was developed for the simultaneous detection and quantification of a panoply of Fusarium species that affect tomato. As a proof of principle, the new qPCR assay was used to assess Fusarium spp. contamination of tomato field plants and of plants grown under controlled conditions. qPCR combined with the chemistry of TaqMan® MGB probes represents a highly specific and sensitive detection system, even when low amounts of target DNA are present, as in the case of early plant–fungi interactions.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

The verticalization during labor and its benefits are well known. However, it is essential to understand the importance that this practice may have in the reduction of perineal trauma and its impact on the women’s quality of life at short, medium and long term. It becomes equally important to recognize risk factors on adopting this practice. The midwives have shown to be fundamental elements in the obstetrics area. They are an important care giver at delivery for women, as they are good listeners, understanding and giving women time, being respectful of their preferences, their values and decisions. They are also exempt of judgment and equipped with the necessary knowledge in this moment so important in the women’s lives and their partner’s, capable of being a crucial element to provide humanized, individualized, and personalized care to women, that is so desperately needed at this stage. In this sense, it has been created a “scoping review “with the aim to show the existing scientific evidence about the introduction of vertical positioning and its influence on preventing perineal trauma during labor. Through scientific evidence, we can confirm that the vertical position during labor shows clear benefits for both mother and child such as, better control and involvement of the mother during labor, reduction of pain, enlargement of the pelvic area and reduction of labor time. The scientific evidence has not shown influence on obstetric injuries of the anorectal sphincter (lacerations of lll and lV degree). The benefits of using verticalization in labor have been investigated and recognized by research, so it is fundamental and must be applied in the clinical practice to carry out a practice based on the most recent scientific evidence. This way, the midwives, are a crucial element at informing, educating and empowering the parturient, by implementing and evaluating the efficiency of alternation of switching positions during labor, meeting their preferences during every moment of labor.N/
