A Pilot Study on Dietary Choices at Universities: Vending Machines, Canteens, and Lunch from Home
Abstract
Commercial environments and food acquisition methods significantly shape dietary practices and impact health. This study assesses dietary choices among Portuguese university students regarding vending machines, canteens, and lunches from home. It also evaluates their use of the university canteen and their tendency to bring lunch from home. This pilot cross-sectional study used a self-administered electronic questionnaire, made available in early 2023. Participants were recruited through snowball sampling. The study included 137 students from Portuguese higher education institutions, mainly women (74.5%), pursuing degrees or integrated Master’s degrees (83.2%), primarily in health-related fields (55.5%). The median age was 21 years (20 to 23.5 years). About 70.0% regularly consumed food from vending machines, while approximately 60.0% brought lunch from home, avoiding the canteen. Factors such as convenience (48.5%), price (47.5%), product availability (40.6%), and taste (39.6%) mainly influenced vending machine choices. Monthly, chocolates, water, coffee, cookies, treats, and soft drinks were the most commonly acquired items, with coffee being the most frequent daily purchase. These findings provide insights for creating policies and initiatives to promote healthier and more accessible food options for students and strategies to encourage positive eating behaviors.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
This Final Intership Report is composed of two parts: the first part (Part I) adresses a critical reflection on the pedagogical pratices developed during the Supervised Teaching Practice in the context of subjects of Visual Education and Technological Education in the 2nd cycle of Basic Education. The second part (Part II) presents the Research Work that explores the use of music as a didactic resource in the subjects of Visual and Technological Education, based on a qualitative investigation. The empirical question of this study is: “Can the use of music influence the classroom environment and students' motivation in the subjects of Visual Education and Technological Education?”. To address this question, the following objectives were established: to determine whether music affects students' attention and motivation in these subjects; to analyze the potential relationship between music and visual arts and how this connection might benefit teaching in these subjects; and to understand the sensations experienced by students when exposed to different musical styles and how this affects their activity execution pace. The results indicated that music had a moderate impact on capturing student`s attention and motivation. While the relationship between music and visual arts was acknowledged, it was limited. The sensations provoked by the music were mixed, with some students reporting increased concentration and relaxation, while others experienced distractions. It was concluded that, although music can enrich the educational experience, its effectiveness depends on factors such as how it is used in the classroom and students' individual preferences
The inclusion of students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) is a crucial topic in contemporary education, with teacher training being a determining factor for effectively welcoming and integrating these students. In Portugal, with the publication of Decree-Law No. 54/2018, dated July 6, it is established that all students can benefit from measures to support learning and inclusion. Within this framework, it is pertinent to investigate how these measures are implemented in Basic Education schools. This study aims to explore the perceptions of Basic Education teachers regarding the current legal framework and teacher training in the context of an inclusive school. To structure the research, guiding questions were formulated, focusing on the identification of strategies and teaching practices that promote access, participation, and learning for students with SEN, as well as their integration into regular education contexts and activities. To this end, a non-experimental, exploratory quantitative study was developed, using an ad hoc questionnaire survey. The sample was convenience-based, involving 102 teachers selected through a non-probability sampling process. Guiding questions were formulated to identify teaching strategies and practices that promote access, participation, and learning for students with SEN in regular education. The results show that teachers are knowledgeable about inclusive legislation, but still face challenges in implementing inclusive practices in the classroom. Additionally, significant limitations were highlighted, such as the lack of adequate resources, the high number of students per class, and insufficient technical and specialized support in schools. It was also noted that there is a significant gap between the theory presented in teacher training and the practical reality experienced in schools, which hinders the application of inclusive school principles. It was concluded that inclusive education is an ongoing challenge for education professionals, and that teacher training plays a key role in overcoming the barriers encountered. However, for these inclusive practices to be truly effective, a collective effort is required, going beyond teacher training, and including an increase in resource allocation and improvements in the coordination between multidisciplinary teams
Tourists' Engagement on Tourism Organizations' Facebook Pages: The Role of User-Generated Content
Tourism industry prospects are presented by digital marketing and consumer travel behaviour changes. Given this fact, digital content marketing (DCM) assumes greater significance for enhancing social media user engagement. Providing valuable and relevant information that differentiates the company and catches the consumers' attention has been one of the current challenges in this area. The wide availability of information on the Internet changes how consumers engage with it. Therefore, creating and disseminating educational and pertinent content is now mandatory. To ensure the effectiveness of the process, it is crucial to understand with whom, how, when, and where communication will be carried out. Thus, tourism organisations must offer targeted, tailored, and appealing information to interest customers more about the destinations. Social media is a commonly used strategy for tourism promotion initiatives, where User Generated Content (UGC) has emerged as one of the most popular means to achieve this goal. “Turismo Centro de Portugal” is responsible for publicizing the Centre region of Portugal, including cities such as Coimbra, Aveiro, Viseu, and Leiria. Turismo Centro de Portugal has won several communication-related awards, having already been recognized internationally for its advertising campaigns. Numerous studies analyzing user-generated content and digital content are available, but they invariably look at businesses rather than tourism-related institutions. Hence, conducting a study to identify follower engagement and involvement in digital content marketing posts versus user-generated content posts applied to the Turismo Centro de Portugal was considered pertinent. For this purpose, a qualitative analysis of the existing content and its results on Turismo Centro de Portugal's Facebook page was developed based on a social media content analysis framework adapted from other authors. The results revealed the importance of using user-generated content in a social media communication strategy for tourism organisations.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

autonomamente.
Currently, a company's competitiveness is the key factor for it to be successful in the
market in which it operates, and to achieve this, it must be equipped with optimized,
innovative, autonomous production processes and the highest level of technology.
The main objective of this work is to integrate and control the equipment available in the
CFF Flexible Manufacturing Cell installed in the Robotics Laboratory of the Department
of Electrical Engineering of the Escola Superior de Tecnologia e Gestão de Viseu. In
order to achieve the desired objectives, the Flexible Manufacturing Cell was designed in
the RobotStudio 2022 program, and the respective simulation was carried out in software
and in the laboratory.
CFFs are one of the greatest potentialities in a company's production process and present
numerous advantages, such as: being able to perform repetitive work 24/24 hours,
flexibility and ability to adjust the manufacturing of different products according to
market needs, reducing the number of defective parts produced, reduction of raw material
waste, among others. A CFF can consist of various equipment, such as: robots,
automatons, Numerical Control Machines (CNC), Automatically Guided Vehicles
(AGV), conveyor belts, various types of sensors, among others.
Throughout this dissertation, some of the equipment mentioned previously was used, in
order to make the laboratory's CFF work autonomously. Initially, the laboratory cell was
created using design software so that it was possible to start some tests and simulations
in RobotStudio. Subsequently, programming code began to be developed in RAPID
language, through which the robot executed routines individually.
Later, tests began in the laboratory, where they also began programming the S7-1200
automaton, the CFF manager, as well as the artificial vision cameras found in the work
tools of both robots, which allowed identifying the type of pallet and the parts found on
them.
Finally, the final rehearsals were carried out, where a set of footage was recorded that
will be presented in the defense of this master's thesis
Governance in sports organizations: a gender approach
Organizations, whether national or international, whatever their object and objective, are organized according to legal precepts that generally reflect the community's value frameworks. The empowerment of women in a society, that tends to be patriarchal has been a slow process, despite moving towards the equality advocated by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The world of sports is neither an exception nor an isolated island; it has been and is organized
according to the practices of the moment in history in which it takes place. The sporting phenomenon certainly finds its maximum exponent in the Olympic Games, where many of the idiosyncrasies of the modern world are materialized.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Afrofuturism is proposed as a reading key to point out Contos dos Orixás, by Hugo Canuto as a decolonial expression. Is there a relationship between the motivation of female fitness practitioners and tobacco and alcohol consumption? Perspectives for improving lifestyle for health
The practice of Physical Exercise has been associated with the adoption of healthy lifestyles and, consequently, an improvement in health. The objective of the study was to investigate whether there is a relationship between tobacco and alcohol consumption and the type of modality practiced; and if the reasons presented for the practice are somehow related to these habits. The sample consisted of 177 adult women, who practice Fitness, divided into 3 groups: 68 practitioners of high intensity modalities, 54 of Zen modalities, and 55 of modalities of both types (mixed group). The Exercise Motivation Inventory 2 was used to assess the reasons for the practice of Physical Exercise. Relating smoking and alcoholism habits with the reasons for the practice, significant positive correlations were found between: smoking habits/affiliation (p= .037); alcohol consumption/keeping healthy (p= .035). Significant inverse relationships between: number of cigarettes smoked per day/weight management (p= .000); number of cigarettes smoked per day/health (p= .048). Class 3 of women who quit smoking had statistically significant higher scores on disease (p= .012) and staying healthy (p= .001). Affiliation is a common reason for smoking and exercising; those who smoked for a longer period of time seem to resort to the practice for reasons relating to the onset of illness or to maintain their health. Women who don't drink seem to be more concerned about their health than women who do drink. Clarifying these relationships is essential for creating more effective intervention programs to eliminate/reduce tobacco and alcohol consumption and their harmful effects on health.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
