Bio-Regions as An Innovative Model of Sustainable Rural Development: An Integrative Literature Review
The Bio-Regions, whose origin dates back to Italy, constitute an innovative model of rural development anchored in endogenous dynamics, valuing territorial specificities, local social capital and participatory governance mechanisms. Its integrated approach seeks to articulate organic farming, environmental sustainability, community cohesion and proximity circuits. This study aims to contribute to the scientific and political debate around Bio-Regions, exploring their transformative potential in the context of territorial public policies. Through an integrative literature review, we sought to understand not only the conceptual and practical evolution of the Bio-Regions, but also the implications of their consolidation in different territorial contexts. The analysis focused on indexed scientific publications and non conventional specialized literature, collected through professional and academic networks. The selection of contributions was guided by thematic criteria, favoring studies that addressed institutional factors, the mobiliza tion of local actors and the role of public policies in the operationalization of this development model. The results highlight the decisive role of the institutional dimension in the consolidation of Bio-Regions, underlining the importance of integrated and participatory political strategies. At the same time, significant gaps in sci entific production are identified, particularly with regard to the systematic assessment of the economic, social and environmental impacts associated with the implementation of the Bio-Regions

Kinetics and Isotherm Study of Ceftriaxone Removal Using Functionalized Biochar Combined with Photocatalysis
The increasing presence of antibiotics such as cephalosporins in wastewater represents a significant environmental risk. These compounds are excreted in large quantities, and conventional wastewater treatment plants are often ineffective at their removal. Consequently, the development of more sustainable and efficient treatment technologies is essential. In this study, the removal of cephalosporins from aqueous solutions was evaluated through adsorption using pine bark biochar, photocatalysis with TiO2, and a combination of both processes. Kinetic experiments were conducted with cephalosporin solutions (15 mg/L), employing 150 mg/L of biochar, 100 mg/L TiO2, or their combination, under continuous stirring and/or UV-vis irradiation. Samples were collected at 0 and 120 min and analyzed via UV-vis spectrophotometry. Adsorption isotherms were established for initial cephalosporin concentrations ranging from 5 to 50 mg/L. The biochar alone achieved a removal efficiency of 94.2% after 120 min. Photocatalysis with TiO2 alone resulted in 75% removal, while the combined approach reached 95.9%, indicating a synergistic effect between adsorption and photodegradation mechanisms. Kinetic data fitted the pseudosecond-order model, and the Langmuir isotherm provided the best correlation, suggesting monolayer adsorption. These findings demonstrate that pine bark biochar, whether used independently or in combination with TiO2, constitutes an eco-friendly, effective, and low-cost alternative for the removal of antibiotics from wastewater, while simultaneously contributing to the valorization of forestry residuesN/

The sustainability of regions as a challenge for higher education - the problem-solving and project-building methodology in teaching cultural management
Teaching in higher education is a constant challenge, as it requires not only permanent updating, but also the search for and implementation of the most appropriate methodologies that enable the transmission of scientific and technical knowledge to students and their training to apply abstract knowledge to concrete situations in the future profession. The Cultural Management unit of the Tourism, Cultural and Heritage Management degree, due to its multidisciplinary nature, requires the use of teaching methodologies that are capable of involving students in problem-solving and enabling them to intervene in the different areas of cultural management, namely: urban management and rehabilitation; management of built heritage; and management of cultural tourism. This is why this unit was taught (2023-2024) using the problem-solving and project-building methodology, promoting collaborative teaching and action research. The choice of this methodology sought to: increase students' critical thinking; foster creativity; apply scientific knowledge to real-world situations; and build students' confidence in their skills. Therefore, we intend to present not only the learning path taken throughout the semester, but also the results achieved. We also intend to demonstrate how the construction of the cultural management project contributed to consolidating the students' knowledge of the content covered and to increasing their confidence in preparing them for the labour market.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

This study focuses on the analysis of the communication and social interaction of a 14- year-old adolescent diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Level II and Intellectual Developmental Disorder. ASD is characterised by persistent difficulties in communication and social interaction, as well as restricted and repetitive patterns of behaviour, which require educational and therapeutic approaches tailored to individual needs. The study aims to address the following questions: How are communication and social interaction manifested in the daily life of an adolescent with ASD? What impact do the educational and therapeutic strategies implemented across the adolescent’s different life contexts have on their communicative and social development? Using a qualitative methodology, this research adopts a case study design involving the adolescent’s parents, sister, therapists, and special education teacher. Data collection included semistructured interviews, systematic observations, and document analysis. The findings highlight significant difficulties in both verbal and nonverbal communication, including a limited vocabulary, frequent echolalia, and alternating use of Portuguese and English. Social interaction is predominantly reactive and brief in duration. Among the identified strategies, visual supports, positive reinforcement, and the use of well-structured routines were particularly notable. This investigation confirms that coordinated, continuous, and individualised intervention is essential for fostering communicative and social development in young people with ASD, reinforcing the importance of collaboration across the various contexts in which the adolescent participates
Drivers of Health and Wellness Product Purchases
Nowadays, consumers look at food products not only as ways to satiate hunger, but also as means of improving their healthiness or, at least, a general feeling of healthiness. Modern consumer trends focus on choosing foods that, beyond nutritional value, also bear some kind of health-enhancing properties. Therefore, markets, industrials, academics, and consumers must all come together to build a successful market in the health and wellness food products sector. This chapter discusses different perspectives on this relation, starting from the functional foods markets and moving on to different motivators for purchasing and consuming healthy foods. When the consumers have the possibility of making well-informed food choices, this is pivotal, since it contributes decisively to general public health. It is only through the cooperative work of all partners involved, from the concept to successful marketing of health-promoting food products, that the food sector is able to grow in a sustainable way
