    Integrating Large Language Models into Automated Software Testing

    This work investigates the use of LLMs to enhance automation in software testing, with a particular focus on generating high-quality, context-aware test scripts from natural language descriptions, while addressing both text-to-code and text+code-to-code generation tasks. The Codestral Mamba model was fine-tuned by proposing a way to integrate LoRA matrices into its architecture, enabling efficient domain-specific adaptation and positioning Mamba as a viable alternative to Transformer-based models. The model was trained and evaluated on two benchmark datasets: CONCODE/CodeXGLUE and the proprietary TestCase2Code dataset. Through structured prompt engineering, the system was optimized to generate syntactically valid and semantically meaningful code for test cases. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed methodology successfully enables the automatic generation of code-based test cases using large language models. In addition, this work reports secondary benefits, including improvements in test coverage, automation efficiency, and defect detection when compared to traditional manual approaches. The integration of LLMs into the software testing pipeline also showed potential for reducing time and cost while enhancing developer productivity and software quality. The findings suggest that LLM-driven approaches can be effectively aligned with continuous integration and deployment workflows. This work contributes to the growing body of research on AI-assisted software engineering and offers practical insights into the capabilities and limitations of current LLM technologies for testing automation

    O texto objetiva analisar os modos de conceber e direcionar a realização de pesquisas, com foco na abordagem da Pesquisa-Formação, em dois Programas de Pós-Graduação em Educação - PPGEs, na perspectiva de duas universidades de países distintos - Brasil e Portugal. A metodologia adotada para a feitura deste artigo fundamenta-se em narrativas sistematizadas sob forma de cartas, escritas pelas três autoras, contendo reflexões embasadas nas análises de processos de pesquisa e formação nos referidos PPGEs. Com esteio nas análises, infere-se que há várias peculiaridades nos modos de conceber e fazer Pesquisa-Formação, sendo que cada formato apresenta ainda singularidades de acordo com cada temática e foco atribuído ao objeto estudado.     Chemical and molecular profiling of waterlogged ancient ivory

    This research focuses on the chemical and molecular analysis of elephant ivory from two 18th-century British ship-wrecks in the Atlantic Ocean: The Princess Louisa, lost off May Island, Cape Verde, in 1743, and the BH-001 wreck, discovered in Horta Bay, Faial Island, Azores. Both shipwrecks yielded substantial ivory collections, providing a unique chance to investigate their ancient routes. A multi-analytical approach was employed that included X-ray fluorescence (XRF), Fourier-transform infrared spec-troscopy with attenuated total reflectance (FTIR-ATR), scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDX), and DNA analysis. These methods were used to distinguish elephant species (African vs. Asian), profile the chemical composition, and evaluate preservation states of the waterlogged ancient ivory. Results showed that ivory from both wrecks originated from African elephants. However, differences in elemental and molecular signatures, as well as varying degrees of structural degradation, suggested distinctions in environmen-tal exposure. This comparative research demonstrates that combining chemical and molecular methodologies is effective in recon-structing the historical context of submerged ivory cargoes. Further research may improve the identification of ivory trade centres and support improved conservation strategies for underwater cultural heritage

    Scanning the horizon: anticipating future changes in Portuguese aquatic ecosystems

    We identified 15 emerging and poorly understood topics related to aquatic ecosystems in Portugal (from an initial pool of 43), which were scored and prioritized using a consensus-based Delphi technique. For marine ecosystems, the topics included current and future threats to low-lying sandy coasts, the impacts of the green energy transition, the risks posed by pathogens on floating ocean debris, the strategic importance of algae for a sustainable future, and Portugal's potential contribution to the expansion of Marine Protected Areas. For freshwater ecosystems, the topics included identifying drought refuges for freshwater biodiversity, assessing the potential ecological and social costs of water highways, uncovering the hidden impacts of clean energy (floating solar panels and lithium mining), managing water quality in reservoirs, and understanding the potential impacts of the recent expansion of intensive olive orchards. For cross-cutting topics relevant to both types of ecosystems, the most scored topics included the importance of aquatic super-sites for ecological monitoring, new solutions for detecting and removing emerging pollutants, the application of rewilding, the impact of forest pathogens and emerging zoonoses, and the rise of organic compounds as a multidimensional threat. Prioritizing these topics can support a more proactive approach to conserving, managing, and sustainably exploring aquatic ecosystems in Portugal. This methodology can also be used to prioritize research funding areas identified bottom up (by the scientific community) rather than dictated from the top down (by decision-makers) and serve as a roadmap for conducting similar exercises in other regions of the world

    Pinewood nematode (PWN), B. xylophilus, is a migratory endoparasite that causes major forestry losses worldwide. Due to their function as key regulators of different biological processes, long non-coding RNAs (lncRNA) can be involved in nematode virulence regulation, adaptation and pathogenesis. In this study, we aimed to characterized PWN lncRNAs expression and understand their potential function in parasitism, based on RNA-seq of the PWN-lncRNA libraries from nematodes in interaction with the host. We have found 925 novel lncRNAs, from which, 300 are being differentially expressed (DE) during the interaction with the host. The most enriched GO terms of significant DEGs targeted by lncRNAs in co-expression are oxireductase and peptidase activity, iron and hemme-binding (padj<0.05). Further investigation into lncRNA characterization and function will provide new discoveries into PWN biology and potential implications in parasitism
