Abstract:
Charlie Parker, saxophonist and composer, is undoubtedly one of the most important figures in the history of music. An innovator, he was one of the founders of the jazz style known as bebop. Research on Charlie Parker and his music has, from an early stage, been extensive, both among musicians and within academic circles. However, there are relatively few studies focusing specifically on the melodies of his heads. Based on a historical and theoretical contextualisation of bebop, of Parker, and of his musical idiom, the present study seeks to broaden the understanding of the bebop language, with a view to its application in contexts of improvisation and composition. In the first instance, it aims to catalogue the musical phrases found in the bebop heads of the saxophonist. Subsequently, it proposes to situate Parker and the bebop style within their historical and musical contexts. Thereafter, the study seeks to develop an understanding of the roots of the theoretical approaches of the Chord–Scale System and the Barry Harris Method, as well as to articulate these approaches and consider theoretical concepts that may contribute to a clearer understanding of the musical language under examination. Finally, it intends to demonstrate several practical applications of the musical material investigated, in improvisation and composition across diverse musical contexts, through a range of motivic development techniques. The work culminates in the presentation, in recital form, of original compositions derived from motives or motivic transformations found in the catalogued phrases
gatos acometidos. Entre estes, destaca-se o análogo de nucleosídeos, GS-441524, pela sua
notável eficácia e reduzidos efeitos secundários; Therapeutic Approach to Feline Infectious Peritonitis with GS-441524 - Abstract: This report was based on the curricular internship of the Integrated Master’s Degree in
Veterinary Medicine from the University of Évora, carried out at Hospital do Gato, between
September 17, 2024, and March 17, 2025. It is structured primarily by an analysis of the caseload
observed during the six-month internship by the author, followed by a literature review on Feline
Infectious Peritonitis, finalizing with two clinical cases of cats with this disease treated with GS-
441524.
Feline Infectious Peritonitis is a systemic, rapidly progressive and, in the absence of
veterinary intervention, fatal disease. Therefore, the recent demonstration of the susceptibility of
its infectious agent, the Feline Coronavirus, to certain antiviral drugs has represented a
breakthrough in the clinical management of affected cats. Among these, the nucleoside analogue,
GS-441524, stands out due to its remarkable efficacy and minimal side effects
The wow effect and behavioral intentions of tourists to astrotourism experiences: Mediating effects of satisfaction
The purpose of this study is to ascertain the effect of awe on tourist behavioral inten- tions for astrotourism destinations. Awe is theorized as a multi-dimensional concept with both cognitive and affective elements. A behavioral model depicting the relation- ships among awe, tourist satisfaction and behavioral intentions is proposed and exam- ined among 304 tourists to the Dark Sky Party Alqueva in Portugal. Using partial-least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM), the results indicate that awe directly affects tourist satisfaction and indirectly affects behavioral intentions when mediated by tourist satisfaction. Theoretical and managerial implications are presented
The Euler characteristic of hypersurfaces in space forms and its application to isoparametric hypersurfaces
We revisit the Allendoerfer–Weil formula for the Euler characteristic of embedded hypersurfaces in constant sectional curvature manifolds, taking time to re-prove it while demonstrating techniques of ([http://hdl.handle.net/10174/26893]) and then applying it to gain new understanding of isoparametric hypersurfaces
Provenance and technology of relief and/or lustre glazed ceramics from Mértola (Portugal)
This paper presents a study of a selection of lustre, relief, and lustre-relief glazed ceramics found at Mértola (12th–13th centuries), and Coimbra (11th century), Portugal (i.e. Garb al-Andalus during the Islamic period). The primary aim is to examine the possibility of a local production of lustre, relief, and lustre-relief wares at Mértola, and to compare the ceramic, glaze, and lustre technology employed with that applied in the production of lustre ceramics recovered at Coimbra, supposedly produced at Seville (Spain) during the 11th century. The analytical protocol included Optical Microscopy, X-ray Diffraction (XRD), X-ray Fluorescence (XRF), and Scanning Electron Microscopy coupled with Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), in addition to High-Resolution Field Emission Gun Scanning Electron Microscopy (FEG-SEM). Considering the characteristics of the Mértola samples, during the 12th–13th centuries, different types of glazed ware, including lustre, relief, and lustre-relief, were locally produced, while others were imported. Conversely, Coimbra lustrewares evidenced significant technological differences, linking these samples to the Middle East tradition. To conclude, the results of this study evidenced, unexpectedly, that during the 11th century lustreware ceramics were imported into the al-Andalus, and not produced at Seville. The production started later, and Mértola ceramics from the 12th–13th centuries represent one ascertain example
A compactação é geralmente
Abstract:
University students show worrying levels of internalizing symptoms, the origin of which may be associated with multiple factors that are still unclear. This study proposed to explore the relationship between internalizing problems, attachment representations, interoceptive awareness, and some sociodemographic characteristics in a sample of 298 Portuguese university students. The participants answered a sociodemographic questionnaire and self-report instruments on anxiety, depression, attachment, and interoceptive awareness. Data analysis included frequency analysis, correlations, and t-tests for independent samples. Male gender was associated with higher levels of avoidant attachment and lower levels of interoceptive awareness. Interoceptive awareness increased with age, while anxiety and depression decreased. Overall, internalized symptoms were associated with more insecure attachment and lower ability in some dimensions of interoceptive awareness. This study suggests the importance of integrating attachment representations and interoceptive awareness in psychological intervention with these young people
Energetics of Male Reproduction
Spermatogenesis is a finely tuned process marked by specific metabolic adjustments at each stage of germ cell differentiation and sperm
production. The Sertoli cell, often referred to as the "nurse cell," assumes a pivotal role in furnishing germ cells with the requisite
metabolic substrates for their sustenance and differentiation. This dynamic establishes a continual metabolic partnership between Sertoli
cells and developing germ cells. Notably, Sertoli cells are subject to perpetual regulation by endocrine, paracrine, environmental factors,
and metabolic signals. Any deviations in the metabolic profile of testicular cells pose a potential threat to spermatogenesis, consequently
impacting male fertility. This chapter offers a succinct overview of testicular and spermatozoa metabolism, elucidating the intricate
mechanisms governing these processes. Additionally, it delves into the energetic aspects of male reproduction, shedding light on the
energy dynamics inherent to the spermatogenic process
“‘Glória de mandar’ e ‘vã cobiça’. A Política Colonial Portuguesa durante a Segunda Guerra Mundial”
The Second World War is traditionally associated with the beginning of the “first wave”
of the decolonization of the European overseas empires, which would conclude in the
1960s and 1970s. Regardless of the validity of this assertion, the Second World War was,
in essence, a war of empires, waged by empires. Some sought the preservation and
consolidation of their territorial integrity and their power. Others sought its expansion.
In some cases, mainly territorial (Third Reich, Italy, Japan, USSR and British Empire),
in others, above all, but not only, a growing economic, political, social, cultural and
ideological influence (USA and USSR).
In this context, Portugal tried and succeeded, as it had done during the Great War, to
guarantee the integrity of its empire and, at the same time, to pursue a strategy capable
of strengthening the ties of political and economic interdependence between empire
and metropolis. The bumpy course and outcome of the war proved to the civil and
military elites of Salazarism that the benefits of owning an empire outweighed the costs,
and that the option for the preservation of that empire would bring advantages to a
small and poor country located on the periphery of Europe, even if positioned at the
centre of the Euro-Afro-Atlantic world undergoing a rising surge, in a context of great
geopolitical uncertainties
Revised and expanded edition of the phenomenological-hermeneutical approach to Art and Technology, which can be read as an intensive introduction to the thought of the mature Heidegger, who, without discarding the discoveries of Fundamental Ontology, seeks to explore the question of truth from the perspective of the History of Being, which is oriented towards the thinking foundation of the space-time of dwelling.F.C.T
